In other words, upgrade every other year. Yearly upgrades are just dumb.
Hey, I resemble that remark. :D

I upgrade yearly and I have to say that I agree. The keynote always gets me with their "Its the best camera ever" or "50% faster!" stuff. But once the hype dies own then the year to year changes dont really feel much different at all.

But 2yr upgrades? Now thats when you see the differences.

Edit: Thats why im not getting an X, cause i know next years model is gonna be much improved and i don't wanna be stuck with this POS.

I really feel like the iPhone X delay is going to make a lot of people re-think their need for the iPhone X.

IF Preorders occurred at the the same time as the 8 then I would've been all over it. But the more I wait for October 27 the more I realize that my current phone is pretty awesome and that $1400 is a lot of money for a device that has yet to be refined.

No it’s not. I’ve upgraded every year since the original iPhone. I’ve never regretted it and am always enjoying the latest tech, all the time.

It makes me happy, and always has. That’s definitely not ‘dumb’, it’s the point of life as far as I’m concerned.

That is a total waste of money to me.
My 4 year old car that is paid in full is very safe, new enough and provides a safe and reliable transportation method.
I dont like to rent my car, having non stop car payments for life or rent my phone or rent anything in general.
It's great not having a car payment every month.
Some people tend to make monthly payments on everything and usually with things they cannot afford in general.
Not my cup of tea;)

Its just like leasing a car, you upgrade every 3/4 years and you never stop having a car payment but your driving something newer and safer.
[doublepost=1505504247][/doublepost]For $350 I rather plug in the wire and have my phone charge way faster and without heating up like a hot potato :D
Wireless charges are way slower and cause the device to heat up a lot.
No thanks, I rather keep my money;)

You mean to tell me that for only about $350, I won't ever have to plug in a wire to charge my iPhone?! - Shut up and take my money. This was my sole reason for upgrading and 100% worth it in my eyes. Huge convenience factor. Probably the biggest reason to ever update an iPhone from my point of view.

Basically. Every year when the new phones are announced, I see people talk about how there is no need to upgrade anymore after a year.

I always think, "There has NEVER been a need to upgrade after just one year."

Need and desire do not mean the same thing.

Ordered my 8+ right after it became available (had done all my preorder stuff beforehand). Now I'm second-guessing myself. I'm on the IUP, but had to out of pocket the tax and an up front payment. It's not like it's a ton of money or anything, but I have a 7+ and it's in mint condition.

Was this just a really dumb move? I mean I love the latest and greatest, but I originally thought this might be the first year I'd skip getting a new phone, then I got wrapped up in it all, but now I'm thinking I might've jumped the gun (and no I don't want an X).

Thoughts?

Nah, you're good. If you can afford the tax, just roll with it. Once you get the new phone you'll forget about it.

Okay well MY tax was about $110 because Louisiana has horrific sales tax, so my out of pocket was $155 with tax and the first payment. I mean it's certainly not life altering, but since it's totally unnecessary...

And I absolutely don't want to get it. I either cancel now or it's mine because once it is here, I know I won't return it.

Try it out for 14 days. During that time, you will know for sure if you want it or not.

Well I cancelled. If I can't live with myself, I'll get one in a few weeks, but for now, I think I'm just gonna live with my 7+ and be happy. ;-p

I know if I would've received it, there's no way I would return it, and I just don't really need to make this change.

One thing about the 8 is that it won't be as hard to get as the X. Sure, the fake inventory stuff will bait the press to making their stories, but in a month or two then I expect to see a lot of carrier discounts and Retail promotions.

I’m upgrading from a 7Plus to the 8Plus and don’t have any second thoughts. Here is the way I look at it. I’m getting a new phone, for a year, for $58 dollars in tax and $3 dollars more a month. I was already paying the monthly fee for IUP. So for $90 for the entire year, I have a new toy. It’s really not a lot of money.

Hah, cool, you got an 8+ too :). Awesome! Yeah, the monthly increase is almost nothing.

On another side note...
This is the first time I've pre-ordered an iPhone. I assume it will stay order in progress until next week when it ships?

Anyone with a 7 line shouldn't be upgrading to an 8. Only upgrade to 8 if 6S or below is my opinion.

Especially with these incremental upgrades. The iPhone 7/7plus are still power houses. I don't think over this past year I thought this phone is too slow.

Dude I just did the same thing! I have my GS8 right next to my iPhone 7 Plus and been messing with both of them all day and I just keep going back to my GS8. It just feels more natural to me. It gives me a month to decide if I want to go with the X. Hopefully they have demo units in stores and have reviews on them. I knew something was wrong when I was more excited about my apple tv then the iPhone lol

Yes, you already singed the IUP and payed the tax and downpayment. It will be a pain to reverse it all now.
I know its easy to get carried away with the exciting new release.
Next time I'd suggest to take some more time to review your needs and compared what you have with the new upgrade and if the price tag is worth it to you and decide if its better going for it or holding on to your current device.

It depends on the person and what they value. I dont think its a big upgrade from the i7 at all. The better processor is nice to have.
I dont care about the improved camera, the one in my 7 Plus is more than enough and takes great pics and video.
And I dont plan on using wireless charging, I have ipad chargers that charge it nice and fast without heating up my device like a hot potato with Qi heating pads :D

So you're getting the X for the lame emojis and slightly larger screen with not so appealing "notch", oh and the dicey face ID that failed during the keynote lol. Complete and utter design flaw since the iPhone was created. Got it. Go ahead and pay $400 more and bash iPhone 8 owners.

Ever since x was announced, it doesn't appear to be x-buyers bashing 8 owners. Actually, X announcement seems to break the dynamic of "looking down on lower tier people" theory. It appears more people are going with the products based on value, personal preference, and affordability.

I normally get a phone every year, but I skipped from the 6 to 6S. Which is pretty similar to the 7+ to 8+. You get your processor and camera changes, but it's an S upgrade. Nothing beats a iPhone release day. But that feeling of needing the latest and greatest ends in one or two weeks anyway when the world goes back to normal. Heck, having to wait a couple of weeks for a black 7+ made me pretty meh about getting a new phone.

I thought about the 8+, but decided I'll get the X, because it actually does look vastly different and has a lot of new tech.

Correct. It will go from Processing -> Preparing for Shipment -> Shipment.

I did in-store pickup, so mine will say Processing until the night before.

Oh and congrats on the first pre-order!

Why not just wait until you actually get the phone? You have 14 days to return it no questions asked. It costs you nothing extra at this point to try it out.

14 days is a considerable amount of time to find out if you like device or not. I remember when It was 30 days for most carriers to allow you to have the phone to return it or not. But most will know if they want to keep their device or not likely within the first few days of using it.

Man..it's been a long time in regards to 30-day return policy.

Did you get your eligibility back in case you change your mind?

There were some members in the X thread saying if you buy an 8 you are missing a chromosome, your stupid and so on. So there are definitely people around here that don't know how to mind their own business and let others make decisions based on their needs. Its just truly uncalled for.
