That's a pretty informative video.
And even though all or most of us here are iOS users let's not stick our head in the sand.
Android OS has been making lots of strides and improvements.
Hope Apple keeps an eye on the competition and keeps improving cause their software reliability and stability has been taking a hit since iOS 11.
Not really sure if I like that swipe up and then hold down near the middle of the screen gesture and other ideas they came up once they eliminated the home button.
I'd take a home button and bezels any day before the iPhone X but that's a personal preference.

It’s funny how people run to this form to defend their OS of choice. I am sending this from an iPad, with my iPhone X sitting next to me. But Android is a great operating system, but Apple just happen to get my dollars this year. I’m never to clear up line or two to one company or another.

People are more justified to defend Apple on this site than Android. Because it is an Apple site. Let me repeat: This is an Apple enthusiast site. Its so baffling that so many people are on her that hate Apple. But then, most are here for reasons they would not admit.

You should know by now a fanboi is a fanboi, you will never be able to convince them. It's not your job to do it anyway, so just forget about them.

If you really want to forget about “fanboi’s”, please find a different website than Macrumors. In case you are unaware, but it is a Mac enthusiast site. Mock all the “fanboi’s” all that you want, but at least they dont waste their time in an enthusiast site for products they dont like.
P.S... when you get older, you will realize how dumb it sounds to call people by such names. As if it makes you seem superior.

Reasonable enthusiast is one thing but unreasonable fanatic (fanboi) is another thing. Anyway my post was directed at Macher, why did it hit a nerve in you?

OK.. which post above yours was unreasonable?
Please go to AndroidRumors.com instead of here.

You posted on a public forum, so anyone reading your comment is your audience. It’s arrogant and insulting to call people who prefer iOS and Apple “fanbois!” Perhaps they, like I, find Apple products to be of superior design and quality, and iOS to be more stable, less buggy, and easier to use.

I went from the 7 Plus to the Note 8. The Note 8 is a wickedly cool phone with a lot of great features. I really wanted to like it and keep it, but returned it after 10 days and got the X. I found Android to be too buggy. I hate notifications - I disable almost all of them. Even after disabling them, I was still getting some, which was annoying. I couldn’t find widgets I liked because the design of all of them were ugly, the messaging app was archaic and ugly, and I couldn’t for the life of me (after hours and hours and hours) figure out how to get music from iTunes to the phone. The design and build of the phone just wasn’t as good as Apple either.

Do you ever notice how Microsoft, Google and Samsung always attack Apple in their ads, yet Apple never mentions them in their ads? It’s becaue Apple products stand on their own. Apple doesn’t need to try and tear another company down to sell their products. We buy Apple products because we feel they are the best, and their customer support and service is by far the best of ANY company out there - a fact that cannot be denied.

To end - I can’t for the life of me figure out why you are even here insulting people. Maybe you need to tear down others choices to feel more secure about your choices. How sad.

I think you got this wrong. To the average users most probably will not plonk down $1000 for a phone. If you look at averages, there are 4x more average users on Android than iPhone.
It depends on what the average user is around you.

If iOS wasn't dependent on iTunes or any proprietary software and standards, had a file manager, could Bluetooth data transfer with other platforms, then iOS would be easier to use than Android.

Doesn't matter. Pick a $200 Android, it can do as much or more (non qualitative) than the $1000 ipx.

Any car can move people around but some cars have 100x the price tag of the cheapest Honda you can get.

Care to understand why?

Just like the poster above me I think this is so biased. Unlike Android there is no need to close an app, hence there is no option to close all. Another example you don’t have to swipe up and press and wait to bring the cards of open apps. Just swipe up and right or left, no waiting at all.

I think there's a little bit of bias and also a little bit of misinformation in the video. When he mentions widgets and shortcuts, he fails to mention that iOS does have widgets, just differently implemented than on Android. In some cases, I prefer the iOS version as they are more polished (SmartThings widget is way better on iOS than on Android).

I can't agree with you that there isn't a need to close apps on the iPhone. There are some poorly coded apps, and even some popular apps that inevitably hang and need to be force closed. Before returning my iPhone X, I definietly had to force close Pokemon Go more than a few times as the whole application would freeze.

What made you return it if you don't mind me inquiring?

The terrible ram management on the iPhone says otherwise in regards to closing down unused apps.

I do agree, though it might be iOS 11 more than anything. Prior to that iteration, I rarely got Safari refreshes. My apps on my iPP 9.7 stay in their state a long time on 10.3.3. Not on my 7 Plus. I get refreshes like crazy with only two apps open so sometimes I'll end up running one at a time and moving to my V30+ if I need to multitask.

If you take somebody who's been using iOS for years, it's very difficult to transition to android, vice versa from android to iOS. So it comes down to what somebody's been accustomed to and what they prefer based on experience.

I remember when I transitioned from android to iOS, it was a big learning curve for me and I wasn't exactly sure how iOS would completely meet my expectations. But after using iOS, having five years worth of updates versus two years of updates from android, the security with iOS and the simplicity, is what won me over.

But I will say android and iOS both have their advantages/disadvantages. Neither one of them is completely perfect.

Personally for me both operating systems have more than enough quirks and annoyances so neither is perfect.

Likewise both are perfectly good enough and don’t have so many negatives that you would need or even want to switch

But if you do want to switch, it’s easier than ever - most of us have contacts, photos etc on cloud services which are easy to move across, most major apps or functions are well supported on both platforms and often free.

My parents have Macs and iPads and for some reason (price) they bought an Android phone as their first smartphone.

Parents seem like the logical recipients of our hand-me-down Apple gear when we need to upgrade to something new, right? ;)

Oddly enough my grandma who had no technology eventually got two tablets from me. She got Wi-Fi as well. However she prefers the android tablet... It's crazy.

She complains about the iPad. The android tablet is way older. She says the iPad is slow. I guess I can relate as my Note 3 works like it did the day I bought it. My 5c has become a painful slug I only turn on once and a blue moon...

My parents have Macs and iPads and for some reason (price) they bought an Android phone as their first smartphone. They're constantly frustrated by the interface, lack of integration with their Apple devices, and the poor display (Mom can't see it when she's trying to take photos outside).

The irony is that these days, the way many people use their smartphones and tablets more than their home computers, they would be better off buying a cheap desktop computer and more expensive smartphones or tablets.

Still, they should be able to enjoy an integrated experience, but it depends on what they want to integrate. I know people who use MacBooks and Android phones with plenty of services that run on both platforms. I have Windows computers at home and work, but I refer to iOS as my main platform for managing both my personal and work life. I use a lot of Google Services for home, and Microsoft Office365 services for work... so the only Apple services are iCloud, Photostream, and iMessage. That would make it very easy for me to switch to Google, but I don’t think the smartwatch experience is as good as it is with the Apple Watch. My Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad work really well together. I can bounce between devices without missing a beat to the point where it feels like iOS is one big platform for many services and my devices are merely access points. Yes Office 365 and Google services provide similar universal access from many access points, but there is something about iOS and iCloud that feels especially tight knit, although frustratingly proprietary in some corners (like Photostream). The family sharing features are also very useful in iOS.

Although I don’t own a Mac, I can see how it would feel more integrated with iOS, but especially for people who go full Apple with services like iTunes and Photostream, as well as with devices like Apple TV and Apple’s wireless router. The iTunes and Photostream experiences on Windows are not good (well..l it’s mostly Photostream that is a problem. The iCloud app for Windows really stinks). I don’t see any reason why a Mac can’t feel as integrated with an Android as a Windows computer as long as your parents use Google Services for mail, calendar, files, etc. instead of Apple services... but they might be more comfortable sticking with their existing Apple services and just getting iPhones.

Maybe your grandmother is just lonely and enjoys complaining about Apple products to pass the time. Have you considered signing her up for MacRumors?

You’ve gathered that the “swipe up and hold to enter multitasking” is not the only and definitely not the most efficient method, right?

A quick swipe up/right or up/left opens it immediately, which I’ve found to be faster than double-clicking a button.

Something that I’ve noticed about non-enthusiasts is that more often than not they’re using a cheap Android and don’t care one way or the other and I think this has a lot to do with the sales people in carrier stores. If somebody shows up saying they need a new phone and don’t care what it is, what would you do? Try to explain why they should spend $999 on an iPhone X or offer them the $300 Android?

I don’t have the illusion that I’m “saving” people if I show them why iOS is better but when they see how much better the experience is with Airdrop, iMessage, photo sharing, etc., they don’t mind spending the extra money.

She's not like me at all. She just wants her games and sometimes a web browse or two.

I think if I get her another iPad, I'm going to never update it. Though she might do it accidentally.

Bah.

Either way... She won't have the latest security patch or it risks being slowed down.

Apple may not be doing it at the moment, but they've certainly done it in the (recent) past - the "I'm a PC / I'm a Mac" adverts being the most obvious one, not to mention the "no PC viruses" iPad advert from earlier this year
