Not everyone's case use - in fact since the advent of streaming and cloud photo services not even necessary for that. Many for example use Google photos and then sync to their PC - or Mac or use iCloud. There are also paid alternatives to ITunes including builtin app backup and transfer/home page organisation if you really want to go that route.

However I really think a large percentage never even touch iTunes these days.
You can keep saying that all you want, but it's nonsense. Any app that I need to get files into I need to sync to the app using iTunes. If I want to put my own music or movies on the phone, I need to use iTunes. If I want to use a custom ringtone, I need to use iTunes. If I want to put movies to be able to be accessed by another movie program such as VLC ... I need to use iTunes. The "Cloud" doesn't make any of this process any easier and quite frankly has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. Their new file manager is a very minuscule step in the right direction, but you can't use it like a regular file manager like in Android. There's nothing to debate here. These things don't stop me from using iOS ... but it's not something you can just simply ignore.

Agreed but just because you think Android is better does not make it so.:p

Neither Android or iOS is better than the other. Both have their pros and cons. Android imho, feels a bit unpolished even stock android, it's much better than it used to be, it does a lot of things better than iOS(eg notifications), just like iOS does a lot of things better than Android (App quality and just feels generally more polished). Just use whatever you feel is better for you without dissing the other (something people have hard time with for some weird reason).

I use iOS because I prefer it over Android. Android doesn't work for me, It work for someone else.

I’m thankful Apple made it slightly less direct to mess with ringtones. Nothing quite as annoying as silly ringtones going off in public.

I wish people would just have their phones on silent or ringers disabled at all times. If getting call or notification is a must, wear a smart watch.

Also, for many things, you can sync with google drive/iCloud/Dropbox, as well as use AirDrop to send files back and forth.

That is an utterly ridiculous reason to be thankful. You're glad Apple makes it difficult to set custom ringtones because you don't like it when people have custom ringtones? Great logic there.

Again ... no. There are many things you can only do in iTunes. And AirDrop requires a Mac. Not everyone with an iPhone has a Mac.

You need to tell the ilovemykid, not me.

Look into AirDrop and also wifi transfers to Files.

As for VLC, it has a built-in server to transfer files directly to it using a web interface from the source machine.

I use iMazing on Windows. The point I was making seemed to go right over your head. You need iTunes (or a third-party app) to transfer things to and from the iPhone. This is still required to do things the iPhone cannot do on its own like Android can ... like downloading things from right within the phone itself. So we're still at the same problem.

Your second link there is a 40 dollar app. Great job. And again ... despite it being 40 bucks ... it's an app that is required to transfer things to and from the phone because the phone itself cannot perform these functions within the phone itself like Android.

I just posted two links that prove this statement wrong. Both work on PC too.
You just posted two links that demonstrate that you don't understand the point I was making. And your second link again is a 40 dollar app, which is an incredibly pointless suggestion.

So Android is basically a Linux fork from google, while iOS is a Darwin fork from OS-X. So both platforms are cousins from Unix. They're probably very similar under the hood.

Just an FYI, you don’t have to swipe up and pause to access app switcher or change apps.

That fact that the video maker doesn’t seem to know this is a problem.

Quarter circle from bottom to the right is another way.

Swiping right and left the home bar is yet another way.

You really need to be aware of these things before making YouTube vids.

This just illustrates that iOS isn't that simple to use now with so many different swipe gestures and 3d touches.

When I see the millions of togggles in the settings app, it makes my head spin.

.

That sounds like a personal issue with you.
Not with others devices and preferred tones;)
So just because you don't like it we should remove the option for all right?

I’m just saying that particular ‘side effect’ of how ringtones are managed on iOS....is something I can live with

I always had an issue with iTunes. When my computer crashed twice over a decade ago, I couldn't retrieve all my content because I didn't know how to extract it from the iPod and move it back to the computer. Then my iPod died on me after a hard drop on concrete.

Photos in a camera roll is the only thing recognized with a PC if you don't open up iTunes. Try to delete a bunch of photos in your synced photo albums and there is way too many steps.

With Android, just use the default file manager, find the photos, and it can be deleted, renamed, or moved. With iOS, you need to delete the photos in that folder on your computer and then sync it to iTunes.

iOS and macOS are completely different breeds. One could recognize an external hard drive and it's easy to drag and drop files without the need to open up iTunes.

Too simple can also mean restrictive and limiting.

Well for one, I usually unlock the device while it's not directly in my face...

You dont need the iPhone X directly in your face and,

You are going to look at your phone at one point or another or you wont be using your phone, FaceID unlocks your phone when you look at it, so I dont get what you are trying to say.

Repeat after me, you now (for a few years) can use ios without ever using itunes..

The only thing I ever use iTunes for is to get another backup of my iphone before I move to a new one. I still restore from iCloud, but I like having the iTunes backup just in case.

Itunes is definitely not needed for music on the iPhone. I use Google Play Music because it was the easiest (and free) service that would look at my ripped music collection and allow me to stream all those albums from the cloud. I guess if you want to actually store the stuff on your phone that’s another matter. I don’t need to do that.

You can't defend itunes in this day and age, really it's a prehistoric throw back and it needs to die. To the dinosaurs still using it and making excuses for it, apple will kill it eventually.

File management on ios is neither better or worse than android . It is just non existant. If you work with files and have an iphone you need a 3rd party fudge. Don't mention icloud. It is terrible unless you pony up.

As for the video, it was about why android was better at certain things, rather than an if. I would have liked an in-depth look at key functions between the two; phone calls, messaging, photos, music, backups, maps, gestures, settings etc. It was a good idea as comparisons go but lacked depth

I don't always have it right in my face. I don't have to justify why it wouldn't work for me nor am I going to continue to defend it either.

I’m the OP and should have titled the thread ‘Didn’t Know Android was So Productive’. Never used Android but from research and watching videos it looks like Android is more productive than iOS. Not saying iOS is inferior but Android as a production device that is like a pocket computer.

Imagine all you could do on a rooted device! Jail breaking was cool but rooting and putting on a ROM is a blast. I had no idea so much could be done like a computer such as overclocking. If you like to tinker, having a bootloader unlocked and lots of dev work is exciting.

If not, well there is nothing wrong with iOS. Everyone likes what they like. I happen to like both and have qualms with both too.
