hope the bump isnt go even taller in the next years
This one can almost reset the inductive charging from my pad on my car because how lift up it is
If Apple goes a step further with this...then in the car you will no longer have the ability to use it

Well it is not going to get better but probably worse. Periscope lens coming soon!! Better to use a robust neck pouch rather than sticking your phone in your pocket. And it does not matter how far the lens sticks out or wobbles on flat surfaces .... just turn the phone screen facing down and camera lens facing up!!!! Problem solved. If you feel aesthetically the lens elements have crossed the red line and are too large and just look damn fugly .... time to look at alternatives.

When they place periscope lens they should thick the iphone as well to keep some proportions in place
It would be very strange that nobody at apple trying the iphone 15 prototype in their car in the qi charging pad and see that is not working because of its design and do nothing about it

If I set it face-down, the screen is far more likely to be scratched and that also defeats the purpose of having an AOD. Not to mention that I like to read the news over coffee, and occasionally reply to a text while doing so. The wobble is incredibly irritating.

I will return my soon-to-arrive 14 Pro Max if it proves to be too unwieldy. That picture shows a significant thickness difference from my 13 Pro Max.

Regarding that wobble, has anyone checked to see if there are any iPhone case manufacturers who make cases that compensate for the bump allowing the iPhone to lie flat - face up?

Haven't yet seen 14P, but I read multiple reports about this bump being huge. It's funny to think, how the once "make it thinner" race is actually going in reverse now; phones are getting chunkier. For the case to compensate the camera bump, they have to be really thick now.

People prefer better camera over slimmer phones, I get the compromise (heck, I love the lenses on my pro too). It's funny though, how elegant and thin iPhone from 10 years ago feels like, when you grab it into the hands.

One day the iCamera will have phone capabilities.
Well that's just how it went; the fact that the (basically inevitable) pocket computers that humans ended up happened to evolve from mobile telephones was never a foregone thingy.

We all know that these days 'smartphone' as a name is more a reference to what they evolved from than what they actually are; other people may disagree but I spend very little of my total iPhone time doing the whole "*brrrrrring*.....*brrrrriing*....Hello, is that Steven? Hi, I was just..." thing. It's a camera, notepad, browser, music player, personal organiser, Gameboy ('are you getting it?')

It's not so crazy to imagine a world where instead of cellphones, it was digital cameras, or even calculators, or PDAs, were the device that kept having more and more features added (including phone features), and we ended up with the iCam or iCalc or (one can dream) the Newton 14 Pro Max

Agree, setting face-down is the worse...prone to be scratched , always on display is irrelevant, inductive charging as well

Well worth the trade off for a much improved camera. For me the camera is one of if not the most important features

Putting my iPhone 13 Pro with Apple Silicon case next to my iPhone 14 Pro in the Apple Silicon case, the difference is almost imperceptible as far as device thickness goes when laying with the camera bump down. No issues for me.

Apple could have given us a flat design, pushing the case out to the depth of the cameras, and filling the space with battery, at the expense of some added weight. I wonder how buyers would have reacted to a heavier phone that was flat, but was everywhere as thick as the current camera bump, and with many more hours of battery life?

Coming from a 12 Pro I was surprised by the size of the bump in my 14 Pro. It’s huge. The case makes it a little br but sill sticks out. It’s all very ugly too. They look like eyepieces!!!!

Ironically, so far the only camera that seems noticeably improved from the 12P to me is the front selfie camera.

I also thought ProMotion would make a noticeable impact, but it doesn’t seem so. I’ll use this phone for a week, then go back and see if I can tell in the reverse.

I will say battery life is WAY better. I have the AOD turned off - it’s too bright

I kinda look at the screen when using my phone. The only people that usually see the size of my bumps are people I don’t know, so who cares.

If you’re buying a Pro, it’s most likely for the camera. Want a quality camera, you get larger sensor and lenses. I don’t see what the issue is.

Again - just to be clear - the fact that the phone looks like a Minion from Despicable Me isn’t the issue as much as putting this thing in my front jeans pocket is. It’s the bulk!

I had a Nokia 1020. It is still one of the best phones I have ever owned. That was a big camera bump and I had the camera attachment too. Some of the best and clearest photos I have ever taken on a phone. But it was worth it and honestly, once you get used to it, you stop noticing the size.

Despite abusing iPhones fairly seriously, I stopped using cases when iPhones got uber-tough, and my chargers are working fine on the 14 Pro. Folks with 14 Pros needing to use cases should probably boy new iP14 Pro-specific cases/chargers.
This was a 14 Pro Max with no case on it.

Big 😑
