Apple's iOS6 has more improvements that doesn't cost you anything compared to S3 software improvements. I'm not trying to defend iPhone 5, I just don't get it why people trying to prove that Apple is such crappy company that made not improvements to their new iPhone compared to other companies that had the same amount of improvements or maybe even less.

NFC isn't only used for payments.

FM radio is useless? I guess the fact that an FM radio entertains me every morning on the way to work is an illusion then!

I'm sure the people who fill up the storage on their phones would like to buy a large MicroSD card.

I'm not kidding about the barometer. It enables faster GPS locks, as evidenced by the fact that the S3 achieves a lock in about 2-3 seconds :) Could be because of GLONASS satellites too.

Regarding the FM radio, it's the toaster fridge effect. Sure, an FM radio on the whole is useful, but it probably isn't a big selling point and takes up space. Not many phones have FM receivers anymore. Likewise, NFC and MicroSD have their uses, but again they probably aren't deal breakers or deal makers for many people.

iPhone supports GLONASS and has since the 4S.

Putting an ad out like this indicates that Samsung thinks it needs to rely on "specs" to sell its phones. People don't buy products based on "specs."

Some people unrealistically want this, right now:

So even with all the significant improvements that the 5 has, they just aren't jiving with unrealistic expectations.

And if it were the other way, Fanboys would do the same.

Childish? I can remember when the iPhone would send a text, but not a MMS. Back then people complained about that and Fanboys were like "Big deal, that's childish." But then the iPhone started doing it and the Fanboys were like WOOO HOOO Apple now says it's cool to send a picture and it was the greatest thing.

Remember back when having a LED flash was "Stupid and just a battery draining worthless addition. Apple is smarter than everyone else and that's why it's not there." Then it got it and WOOO HOOO it's the greatest thing on the planet.

I agree both ways. I'm in no way defending fanboys/fandroids. I think its perfectly OK to like your device of choice but to go to extremes to bash the other is pointless. Buy what suits you... missing a feature? Yeah it would have been nice to have but obviously wasn't a deal breaker. It's just never ending and inevitable.

I really don't know what people were expecting. iPhone 5 is as perfect a phone as I've ever seen.

- Much lighter.
- Much thinner.
- Much faster.
- Bigger screen.
- Better screen.
- More durable.
- Better battery.
- LTE

^This.

I think NFC would have been cool. I also think Bluetooth can accomplush the same thing. Wait, I know it can.

I'll have to look into the specs more. I don't know how much power NFC consumes. I don't know what the transfer rate is either.

Let's sum it up:

NFC is used quite a bit. Must be where you live, but here, it's in many places and can be used for many things. Where I work, you can unlock the doors to the building with your phone. Well, I can't because I have an iPhone, but other people can. And they aren't talking about a iPad size screen. Bigger in all directions would have been nice for my use.

And if the 5 had a 4.3 screen, ALL Fanboys would have jumped for joy and said it was the greatest thing. Bugs me when the Fanboys totally dismiss every opinion or desire that Apple hasn't told them they want.

I think NFC has potential, and it is possible to use it where I live, but no one ever does. I don't think I've ever once seen someone use one of those tap-to-pay things at a store. Too many people are concerned about potential theft and privacy issues. I don't mind waiting for NFC until Apple thinks they've found the ideal solution. Usually takes them a while, but they jump when the tech is right.

As for the 4.3" screen, I just don't think it would meet the criteria for comfort and usability. A wide phone would be annoying for one-handed use (especially for women, more than half the population right there). I also think it would be annoying in your pocket. I already get annoyed by my phone as is, I don't really want it being more obtrusive.

Anyway neither NFC or a larger handset are really innovative. It's a matter of preference - there are legitimate reasons why Apple has decided not to include them.

Hm, the iphone certainly isn't innovate and it hasn't been for some time.
Sure the upgrades are very welcome, but its just improving what is already there to keep up with the competition.

The closest apple has come to innovation recently is Siri, and that was just taking an idea and making it better. For those of us who like to future proof our phones, I think NFC, wireless charging and maybe even a quad core processor would have been nice additions.

I think its natural to want want want. I admit I wanted a bigger display, NFC, wireless charging... all of those would have been, like you said, welcome additions. Definitely.

But what we should all know by now is that Apple are perfectionists. They won't implement a feature unless they've "cracked it" and are happy with it. I've accepted this... doesn't mean I'm an "iSheep" or making excuses... just know that once its added it will work the best way possible for the iPhone.

Sidenote: Currently using a Galaxy Note... but had grabbed my bro's iPhone to show him some YouTube videos via AirPlay and I forgot how comfortable the iPhone was to hold... it was zippy too for an iPhone 4. :p

I'm sure a multi billion dollar company is more than capable of manufacturing working NFC, wireless charging and much more.

I do like iPhones, I'm getting an iPhone 5 so I'm not simply hating for the sake of it. However, the iPhone recently is not innovative, android handsets have more than stolen that. I hear lots about apple being "perfectionists", but the galaxy s 3 isn't exactly falling apart is it?
Apple by far make the best outer casings for mobiles, no one can touch them on that, the OS also is a matter of preference. However, for the tech inside the phone, I'd say apple is by no means making flawed phones, but they are not including all the features which are now standard on top end androids.

The negativity surrounding the iPhone 5 has more to do with lack of design change than hardware specs. The general public is used to Apple pushing the envelope on product design, and the iPhone 5 is an evolutionary design upgrade over the 4/4S.

However, if you look back over Apple's post-1997 product history, the design of Apple's products tend to fall into different "design eras."

Let's take the iMac ...

iMac (Bondi/1998)
Mac DV (Blueberry/1999)
iMac DV+ (Indigo/2000)
iMac Blue Dalmatian/Flower Power (2001)

iMac G4 (2002)
iMac G4 17"/20" (2003)

iMac G5 (2004)
iMac G5 iSight (2005)
iMac Intel White Plastic (2006, Early 2007)

iMac Intel Aluminum (Late 2007 , 2008, Early 2009)
iMac Unibody Aluminium (Late 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)

Right now, we're in the iPhone 4 design era. Get over it. They'll completely redesign the iPhone in a year or two.

You're not stupid

A 15% bigger screen
In a 20% thinner lighter phone
With 4g LTE
And snappier, fluid, responsive processor and ram
In 11 months from iPhone 4S launch

Is incredible

It's missing "innovation" apparently, which I guess to them means NFC (which nobody uses yet) and a monster screen (which more than half of consumers would find unwieldy and annoying). Oh, and plastic construction I guess...Fandroids love plastic.

I want NFC. I have been using it for years, it is used in lots of countries around the world! I use it in the supermarket, I use it to catch the train, I use it to pay for taxis. It is incredibly useful.

To be able to have it in my phone (something I have seen for years in other phones here in Japan) would be great!

I am actually thinking about modding my payment card, to take out the chip and insert it in the iPhone. I have heard it is possible, I will open up my iPhone 5 when I get it to see if there is any space for the chip.

That actually sounds pretty cool. lol

My friend has a Galaxy S3 and always tells me how it's so much better than the iPhone blah blah blah and always goes off bashing on it on Facebook, then just recently and he actually pulled out the charger port with his charger the other day. He then texted me asking me how much the iPhone 5 is going to cost. Made my day. :apple:

Sounds believable... NOT.

Faster processor, better graphics, bigger screen, integrated touch and projection on the same pane of glass, better battery life, 4G LTE, Turn by Turn navigation for free, better front facing camera with the ability to record in 720p, better overall camera performance (low light, stabilizer, higher f/s, faster capture times, panorama), better video and the ability to take photos while filming, stronger antennas, stronger Wifi, better audio system all around (clearer call quality, stronger speaker system, 3 microphones to greatly reduce background noise), new headphones, new connector that can output more digital signals, nano-sim card, and new, more durable, and lighter design
.

It's because your COMPARISON point is the vastly inferior iPhone 4S. The RESULT is that the iPhone 5 is catching up just now to the higher end Android market, and even then has a ways to go. Still no micro-SD, replaceable battery, Large 4.8" screen (a preference, but a lot of people want this), actual USB that works with extrernal USB devices, and a slew of software features. On the other hand, there's not much in the iPhone 5 that the the S3 can't match.

I'm currently an GS3 user that has decided to go back to iOS and buy the iPhone 5.

I am going back because I miss the simplicity of iOS. That said, my experience with the GS3 has really been a good one and I will miss some things about it, namely Google Maps and the screen.

I am very much looking forward to getting the iPhone 5, but the screen of the GS3 is in no way unwieldy or annoying. I wish Apple had opted for a bigger screen, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for the other things which I think make the iPhone a better choice for me.

I would disagree with this.

Again, I'm a GS3 user, and I like the phone, but simple things just don't go well on Android.

The texting clients on Android are the pits. Ever tried to receive a group text message on Android? It either doesn't work or goes through some cumbersome sms to mms conversion bs which often times freezes your phone.

Battery management stinks. My GS3 can't get to 2 hours of screen on time during an average day. The photo gallery blows and music is inferior to what the iPhone and iTunes offer.

My experience with the GS3 has been very positive, but to say that there's not much in the iPhone 5 that the S3 can't match is just not true. Start with the OS...by any measurement, iOS is superior to Android. Although, Android has made great strides with ICS and JB.
