Bottom line, the lightning connector will allow the device to charge MUCH FASTER!!

This, in and of itself, is worth the price of the upgrade. My iPad 3 takes about 8 hours to fully charge...it's a joke!

This is a welcome and much needed upgrade.

You could just but the $19 12W power adapter to charge quicker. I doubt the cable has anything to do with it.

I am upgrading simply because I am in the two week window to return the iPad 3 for a full refund.

I hope there will not be a run on the (new) new iPad and ship dates get pushed back from November 2nd.

BLAH BLAH BLAH. Your whole wall of post translates into one thing: you didn't read the post and you get upset about someone else having a different opinion than you.

I, in fact, went in to detail as in why I am disappointed Apple released a fourth generation iPad already. And I stayed calmed.

All you are really saying are things like "I MEAN SHEESH!", "SNAP OUT OF IT!" "WOW." "FANTASTIC".

And the ironic thing here, you basically start with "Dude. Chill out." - You should chill out, and you shouldn't get upset about someone else having a different opinion.

This is not an issue about differing opinions. Yes, your opinion is to be upset about an iPad, I understand that. What I want you to understand is that iPad 3 is still top notch stuff. Just because Apple releases an improved version shouldn't provoke your animosity towards them.
NEWSFLASH: What you bought is still what you bought. NOTHING has changed about your device.

If they never made the iPad 4, you would still be a happy little guy woudn't you? Yup you wouldn't say nothing. The fact that you are upset because they released a newer version means you are only interested in having the latest and greatest, which is just sad.

Think about it. If they would have released the iPad4 6 months from now (closer to a more common release schedule) You wouldn't have complained, or made any kind of similar thread. And of course it would have had the A6 chip in it by then right? Right.

So you are saying the iPad 3 will not support iOS 7, due to the next version being released only 6 months earlier?

That's why im like "SHEESH" because you guys are acting downright childish. I'm sorry. I am glad to be part of a community that enjoys the same products I do, and I respect you for being an avid iPad/Apple fan. But you guys are taking this too far!

Woah, my 3 fully charges in about 2 hours. Are you sure you are using the correct charger?
Then I have to assume that you are not talking about a full charge. I will affirmatively say that I do not believe that there is a 3rd generation iPad on earth that can charge from 5% to 100% in less than 5 hours, let alone 2 hours. I just don't buy it...at all.

Ok, well I didn't know anything about this adapter.

Still, I think it's worth selling my 3 and upgrading to a 4...just my opinion though.

People like us who are tech gadget geeks and hang out in forums like this will care. But the vast majority of iPad owners won't even realize that there's been an upgrade. Trust me, I know dozens of people like that and they just don't follow this stuff. Apple is not likely to make a big deal in the media about it either, so most consumers won't even be aware of this, and even if they were, most wouldn't care, unless of course the current model is a sluggish piece of junk compared to the new, which it isn't.

So true. Several members of my family don't even update to the next IOS until the receive and email/txt msg that tell them to look at software updates and install new IOS.

If the didn't get the notification, they would never update.

The 3 is more than capable. If you want faster charging, just get the new adapter, or a nice 4 amp, 5V Enercell from Radio Shack (has a USB port and is actually pretty nice). The cable has nothing to do with it.

Point is: the 3 is perfect. The 4 is great if you are a gamer, otherwise I see no point at all in upgrading now, and trust me, i'm a hardened upgrader.

then again, if you have the means......;)

What is causing hiccups?
I have not seen any.

playing Metal Storm makes it skip and hiccup a lot.

if this was my 1st iPad i wouldn't think much of it, but i came from an iPad 2 where everything was fluid

the 3 is not perfect

the 4 with the A6X will be perfect. the Facetime HD and Lightening port are just bells/whistles, but the A6X will bring back the same level of fluidity that the iPad 2 had

have you played Metal Storm? i played it a lot on my iPad 2 and it was great, on my iPad 3 it hiccups all over the place

Sheesh, read my post again. I'll quote some things from my original post.

It's not that I'm angry that my iPad 3 is no longer the newest of the newest

So that's the thing I'm a bit disappointed about: the A6X is extremely powerful compared to the A5X chip. Not only will it give much better performance, it also means future iOS software updates will run much, much smoother.

So now I'll react to some of your arguments.

This is not an issue about differing opinions.
It is, mate. For some reason you can't - or rather will not - understand what I'm trying to say.

Yes, your opinion is to be upset about an iPad, I understand that. What I want you to understand is that iPad 3 is still top notch stuff. Just because Apple releases an improved version shouldn't provoke your animosity towards them.

Yep, invalid argument, however, because that's not what I'm disappointed about.

If they never made the iPad 4, you would still be a happy little guy woudn't you? Yup you wouldn't say nothing. The fact that you are upset because they released a newer version means you are only interested in having the latest and greatest, which is just sad.
Again, you're totally missing the point. I'm not upset that they released a newer version (as I said, I'd be alright with it if they updated the iPad 3 to have better LTE, lightning connector).

What I'm saying, is that I'm disappointed about the fact that this is actually quite a big upgrade and that it's totally unknown whether or not the iPad 3 will get any more iOS updates. (As I said, Apple's policy has always been: if it's not on sale, don't expect an update).

And yes, I'm also disappointed that they are updating the iPad so soon. I feel like they easily could have added something like FaceTime HD and faster Wi-Fi speeds in the first place, and I also believe they already knew they were releasing an iPad 4 this fall. I'm not in any way angry that I don't have the latest and greatest model.

I suppose the best way to word my 'disappointment' is like this: I'm disappointed in how Apple made the move to an iPad 4 and simly acts as if the third-gen iPad has never existed.

Think about it. If they would have released the iPad4 6 months from now (closer to a more common release schedule) You wouldn't have complained, or made any kind of similar thread. And of course it would have had the A6 chip in it by then right? Right.
Yep.

So you are saying the iPad 3 will not support iOS 7, due to the next version being released only 6 months earlier?
This is you assuming things again. I'm saying that I wonder what Apple will do with software updates. There is not a single mention of a third generation iPad on Apple's website. And Apple, thus far, has never updated any iOS device that was not on sale.

That's why im like "SHEESH" because you guys are acting downright childish.
I think it's childish of you when you make those kinds of comments. I also think its childish of you to just assume things, to assume that something is my opinion like you did in this post.

I'm sorry.
You should be.

Now that's childish from me.

I am glad to be part of a community that enjoys the same products I do, and I respect you for being an avid iPad/Apple fan. But you guys are taking this too far!
I'm actually not an avid Apple fan.

In conclusion, I'm really disappointed in you. You are making assumptions all over the place and you are sometimes simply wrong.

I'm a recent ipad3 buyer, gamer and heavy user and I really don't care about the ipad4 either. It'll be 'obsolete' in a few months too and I don't think it'd do much noticeably better in my usage.

It's crazy to think iOS updates will stop significantly earlier for the ipad3 too.. They just introduced a new tablet with ipad2 level specs! .. They'll cater for the ip3 for long enough for all the complainers to have wanted to replace their iPads anyway.

I just got back from returning my iPad 3 at Best Buy. Since it was 5 days over the 30 day return period, I got a store credit, but that's fine. When the new ones come in, I'll just get it at Best Buy instead of ordering from Apple.

I didn't even know there was a new ipad...just thought the announcment was for the iPad mini. So yeah, not in a hurry to update this time. Might be the first time I haven't. I'll wait to see the iPad mini in person if it's worth the bother but I doubt it. I'm good with my iPad 3 or new iPad/whatever the stupid name is that you can't even find on apple.com anymore LOL

eh, I use my iPad 3 for movies and web browsing along with a car mount so my son can watch his movies. Nothing about the 4 amazed me enough to trade up. I did grab a mini instead so I have something bigger then my iPhone but smaller then my macbook to surf the net in bed or if the wife is watching something I have zero interest in (99.9% of the time) I can pull something up on netflix or youtube. I think out of the two iPad announced the mini is a better buy for us 3rd gen users.

My opinion on the 4th gen though is they should have waited and released a full refresh next year. I can see why Apple did it and now have their entire lineup on a Q3 launch cycle instead of the scattered March/June/October of years past. So I guess this was there way to kill two birds with one stone. Get the iPad on the Lightning connector and get it on the October release schedule.

I took the opportunity that Apple sells off all their iPad 3 stock as "refurbished" and ordered an iPad 3 + Cellular with a 135$ saving (here in Canada). I had (until my wife snatched it) an iPad 2 and was very happy with it for the things I did, so I think the 3 will be a great update.
So thumbs up for iPad 3 :D

Well.....

im glad we cleared that up then ;)

Most consumers won't have even noticed the iPad 3/4 switcheroo. My students are always aware of Apple product launches (because I tell them) and lots came in mid week to ask if I was getting an iPad mini (or if some of them should get one). None of them were interested in the 4.

I'm normally one for 'must have the latest/greatest' but I was planning to upgrade in the spring, so will changeover then. Just got the iPhone 5 and was planning to buy a new Mac Mini this month, so no rush on the tablet front. The 3 is perfect for me at the moment.

A bit off topic:

Why do people get emotional about this stuff? I just don't get it.
Is it masochism?

(Never underestimate the power of masochism) :D

Most consumers won't have even noticed the iPad 3/4 switcheroo.

Not just consumers. When I talked to the assistant manager at our Best Buy and told him why I wanted to return my new iPad3, he said "well, you know it is smaller, don't you?" When I told him they'd released a new version of the big iPad, he was surprised, and asked all about it. A tech came up as well, as he hadn't heard and is getting an iPad mini. So even "professional" enthusiasts didn't notice the switcheroo.

I was bummed about the 4 as I'd just bought my 3 three months ago, but got over it after I realised the A5 was no slouch.
It could get better, pages do sometimes stutter and, especially on big websites, fail to load for a while.
Facetime HD is a great addition, but facetime doesnt use a lot of bandwidth to begin with, so the extra detail is lost.
So I decided not to do anything.
But then I thought why not just put it on Craigslist, see what happens. Someone paid $420 for it!
So I went and ordered a new 16gb... the cost of the upgrade is $140. I get a new CPU, new camera, new warranty, new battery and it's brand new
:)

Not really. The iPad 3 is plenty capable, and the iPad 5 is probably going to be major redesign

Only reason I'm getting the iPad 4 is because I just bought a 64GB iPad 3 on October 6 and my local Apple store allowed me to exchange it.

If I had bought the 3 a few months ago I would have been more then happy to keep it.
