slightest bit of background noise and i have trouble hearing on my iphone 6.

I have the same problem of super low volume without the speaker mode. I did turn off the noise cancellation so am hoping that is the problem. Of course I have not gotten a call since I did that to test it :D

I turned hearing aid mode on for my phone and it allowed me to turn the in call volume up a few notches. It also turned off noise cancellation which I can't stand.

I'm trying this now. After turning the hearing aid mode on, it seems that although I can push up the volume with the buttons a few more notches, the sound quality coming from the earpiece sounds a little muffled. Anyone else experience this?

Volume is way too low on my 6. I thought it was the case but even after taking the case off its bad.

Mine is loud enough (with hearing aid mode) that I can hear the person on the other end while driving down the highway. However, my calls aren't muffled, but rather soft/flat. It almost sounds like when someone messes with the eq setting and gets rid of all the treble.

As others have said, I had a low volume as well, until I realized I had to move it over my ear differently than I did with my 5. After moving it a few mm in either direction with people talking, I could hone in what was loudest. Now I keep it between 50-75% loudness when my 5 was 90-100%.
My particular gripe with the ear speaker is that it sounds kind of muffled, at lower or louder volumes, as compared to my 5. But that's another thread ;)

I always thought it was low too until I realized the speaker wasn't actually over my ear. I was constantly mashing my volume up button and pressing my phone to my ear. While on a call that sounded low, I moved the ear piece until it was centered and what a difference. There is definitely a few adjustments to be made when upgrading to the 6+. I now have volume around 60-70% and can move it higher as outside noise increases. Just had to hold it different.

That's how I feel. The call coming in sounds muffled rather than crisp and clear.

Well crap. I just thought I got a dud speaker, was going to swap it out if it got worse. Maybe I'll wait until they build a few more and hopefully run through that batch in production.

Anyone make any headway with the low ear piece volume? I'm not very confident that any future updates will fix this issue. I was thinking of making an appt with Apple genius bar to find a fix. This is not acceptable. My old flip phone was twice as loud at half the volume setting.

I've had two 6s. One had a low earpiece volume and the other one was fine. Seems like it's a hardware issue but I'm no expert on this.

I am on my third I Phone 6 all having low volume on the phone earpiece. This is a major problem as I work on building sites all day so lots of background noise. I have been through all the iPhone's with no problem with sound . I must say the sound is rubbish on the 6. I can't go through another replacement so possibly will look at a different make of phone which I don't want to do but will need too. Have tried all settings etc but must be a hardware problem as everything else on the phones had been fine

I wonder if calling apple customer service may shed light on all of our issues. Has anyone confirmed low volume with iPhone 6+ earpiece?

I think this might help go to Settings-->General-->Accessibility-->Hearing Aids-->Hearing Aid Mode ( it should be turn ON).

New Update 8.1.1

Anyone try the 8.1.1 update? Did it have any effect on the earpiece volume?
