I think they are going to redesign it entirely on next generation, maybe taking ideas from iPad design.

Of course they are but there are constants in how Apple designs. For iPhone, forehead and chin will be equal space. And obviously, Touch iD isn't going away. Neither is the speaker. So that will make it difficult to increase the screen and reduce wasted space up top.

Indeed, but they can shrink bezels on the side.
I'm looking forward to see what an iPhone 6 with a 4.7" screen will be.

You know, you can't make fun of someone and use grammatical/punctuation errors. It's highly likely someone will point it out.

*You're

I'm typing on my mother's laptop right now which has a swiss keyboard layout. Typing an apostrophe is rather cumbersome. Besides, English is not even my native language.

Anyway, was it really that hard to understand that "everyone" was used hyperbolically to make a point? Does one really need to be a genius to not interprate every sentence literally?

Of course not everyone got himself beats headphones. Still they were widely popular despite the fact that they used to be pretty expensive (especially when you consider the fact that they rather sounded average compared to other headphones in their price range). Wearing Beats headphones was definitely considered a status symbol (at least for teens or tweens). And yet, basically everyone could afford one.

On topic however, I do want to see iPhone keep a "Pocketable" size.
If it's too big, it'll be exactly like my Note 3 in awkwardness.
You do know that there remains a lot of space between iPhone 5 and Note 3 size don't you?

For using the term "Duh" so blatantly, guess it fits on your last sentence. Is it not considered rude in your native culture to be obnoxious? Was that a "Duh" moment too?

"Everyone" is basically an overstatement. It's also an improbable and highly grandiose term. Just my opinion.

I'll stop as I'm not usually one to start a forum tuft. I just found your easy use of the term "Duh" to be very grating. I apologize to those in this forum for my outburst.

.

I personally find it obnoxious to not think about the discussed topic before posting in a thread.

Why would anyone simply write a post stating that literally not everyone got beats headphones? The question was how something could be a status symbol when "everyone" got one (note: not literally everyone owns an iPhone - still it is considered as both a million seller and a status symbol). I was referring to beats headphones which also were widely popular (at least among young people) and status symbols.

Also I simply dont understand why someone would really consider joining the discussion claiming that every iPhone bigger than the iPhone 5 would automatically make it the size of a Note 3. Is it impossible to look at the phones on the market (like the Moto X) to realize that this is not the case?

I had a GS4 thinking the bigger screen would be better, but I lost it last weekend. When given another choice of phone, I got a 5S and I'm very happy to have a screen that "I can" use one handed.

Exactly what I did. I don't have iDevices because of status (again, it's 2013, we're way beyond iPhones being the "cool kid phone"), I went with it because it fits my needs.

I would get a Moto X sized iPhone, but that's my limit. The S4 was just too big. I dropped it more than once trying to shift my grip just so I could hit the damn search button in several apps.

As for being "productive" on it... it's a phone. Yeah, I get a little annoyed playing League of Evil 3 on the small screen, but that's it. If I need screen space, I use my tablet or my laptop.

LOL! I know right? I think phones are phones. Get them because they make you happy, not because "Everyone" has one. That's what I think anyways...

Ironic thing is Apple is turning into the underground brand again just because of the backlash against them from being the one "everyone" had. :p

I'm enjoying my iStuff and my Monster headphones, not because of the name on the label, but because I tested it all out and it worked best.

after having owned a s3 and note 2, im definitely used to a bigger screen. i honestly think the s3/s4 screen size is perfect for a phone. any bigger is too much

sucks for you when you have to stick that phablet into your pocket or hold that brick to the side of your head

Between my note 2 and my 5s, this is where I'm kinda stuck lol. My hands are smallish, so the iphone fits way better in my hand. The note doesn't, so 1 handed website reading is a pain in the butt. OTOH, the note's wider screen makes it easier for me to read a website without having to put the phone in landscape or constantly slide the page left/right. Sadly, iOS isn't that great at rearranging paragraphs so I can read it.

OTOH, the note is so big that it's awkward to hold and because of the touch sensitive buttons on the bezel, there's hardly anywhere good to hold it by when taking pictures or passing the phone to someone to share something.

So a 4.7" iPhone with a similar frame of the actual 5S will be perfect :D

It think 5 inches is my sweet spot. I used to have a galaxy note and whilst I loved the larger screen it was unwieldy. I've now got a galaxy S4 which has a big screen but is incredibly slim and easy to manipulate and carry around. I've got an iPod touch 5th gen which is the same size as the current iPhone and I do find it a tad small. I wouldn't go bigger than 5 inches though as it would be too cumbersome. Plus anything bigger than 5 inches would negate my iPad mini and nexus 7.

I work in a heavily regulated and security conscious industry. In addition I am a heavy content creator. Your above scenario would never work for me, plus i need a keyboard.

Still we are back to the what works for you doesn't work for everyone thing.

I can totally understand if your IT department doesn't allow Android or if your company has proprietary software only available on iOS or any number of reasons. And for me the opposite applies.

What do you mean about a keyboard? Android supports USB or Bluetooth keyboards and mouse/trackpad.

big screens suck huge hairy sweaty balls

Obviously this person does not represent us adults that prefer a smaller device.

My opinion on it is phablets are too big for my needs. When in use I'm sure I'd really like the device but when in my pocket where my phone spends 90% of the time it's a little too big. The S4 isn't too bad but with a case (like I like to have mine in) it's a little too bulky. My opinion on it, mileage will vary.

I can't understand these phablets. I see people on the street trying to talk into these things and they look ridiculous.

Apple did a great job with the ipad mini, and thats as close to a phablet you are going to see from them!

IMHO They should just shrink the ipad air to 4.7" with minimal bezel (ala Moto X) and they will have not only a home run, but a grand slam on their hands.

Just thought i'd give my insight into this discussion...

A few months ago i decided to get rid of my iPhone 4s, she was a good ole girl but heavily damaged thanks to my carelessness.

Anyway i got myself a Galaxy Note 2 and for about 3-4 Weeks i was in love with the screen, hocked it up to my TV, dplaying all sorts of Emulators and roms on it...fit perfectly in my hands as im a tall guy could read it nicely as ive got crap eyes..

But as of today im using an iPhone 5s...This isnt the first time, Last year i had an iPhone 4, traded it in for a then new Galaxy S3...loved it for 3 months and went to my old iPhone 4s..

To me, a hardcore techno weirdo I love the open andriodness and the large screens but the realist in me screams "Why the hell do i need this?" I have a high powered desktop for such tasks and the fantastic Macbook Air...I just need to make phone calls, play some mobile games, have a good battery and great camera all iphones have delivered in this sense and i think its the reason i keep coming back.

So to the OP your not alone, size kinda matters but its how you use it that really counts.

Are we still speaking about phones ?

I think the choice should be there for people without a doubt but my personal preference is the current form factor. I had an android with a larger screen for a while and I just couldn't get into the habit of using two hands.
