I always laugh at the people that need 2 hands to use their phones. If you want something bigger, get a tablet.

So are you the king of cell phones who decides what the standard should be? Who are you tell tell someone if they should get a tablet if they prefer a bigger phone.

Phones like the note is largely successful because of many factors, marketing is a huge one, also because of the bigger is better mentality, and for the many who just want an all-in-one (phone/tablet). Soon any phone less than 5 inches will be seen as complete rubbish by all. All I'm saying is that we all THINK we NEED these jumbo screened phones when we really don't. I'm talking anything over 5inches. I'm not saying no one should have them nor am I preaching against them, I'm just saying. It's the same with flatsrcreen TVs, 50 inches were satisfyingly acceptable and now everyone feel they NEED 60 and over in their small living rooms.

Android is a non-starter for me for a variety of reasons. I like the form factor of the 5s, maybe apple can play with the placement of speakers and bezel to provide more screen real estate. The z30 was too big for me, else that is the phone I would have been sporting.

although useful we don't need PHONES to so huge. I currently use the iPhone 5 and although 5 inch phone would be welcomed to be honest I just don't find myself wishing the screen was bigger whenever I use my phone.
I agree, a vast number of people love the small iPhone form factor because they don't need a smartphone. They buy iPhone's to be seen with, a vanity product of sorts.

Apple spends tens of millions of dollars influencing buyers that Apple is the "cool phone" and it's been a wildly successful approach.

But for those whom smartphones are designed for, especially Androids, a spacious roomy screen is essential. When working it's about productivity, other times it's about video and games for those who play them.

Each have their advantages, and Apple has their marketing expertise. One look at the numbers proves nothing beats influential marketing, a game Apple has dominated for years.

Huh? You think people buy an electronic device to look cool as the only reason for owning device? Got any credible studies to back that up?

For me its not about real estate,it's about productivity, security, support and back up. Apple has android beat in every category, imo.

I live IN THE WORLD (thanks to my job) and bt headsets are not so used at all ...

Here in the US they are fairly popular since a lot of states are really cracking down on driving while on the phone.

You only have several options. Bluetooth headset, Bluetooth built in the car, headphones, turn your phone off while driving or get a fine (risk it). There is only ONE option there that requires putting the phone to your head and it's not a good one.

I drive a lot for work so I have to use one. It's pretty convenient IMO.

+1 for this.

Depends on an individual when it comes to productivity. I use an Android tablet at work (iPhone for a phone) because it's email app is a little more extensive. I need to be able to email a large variety of file types that iOS is incapable of doing.

Aside from support the rest are a wash for me.

I do agree however buying an electronic device based on "style" is a little silly. Kind of a form over function thing which IMO has no place in the smartphone arena. But that's just my opinion because I use these devices extensively for work related task.

Don't you have bt in your car ?
Here in Europe is quite common also in mid-range cars ...

Btw I spend quite a lot of time in the States, and frankly I don't remember so many people with BT headset ....

A ton of people buy stuff because it is "cool" My kids are a perfect example, I have some awesome Audiotechnica headphones and they would never want them but want Beats because they are "cool"

What's wrong in wanting something "cool" ?

Nothing, just saying and sometimes the cool product is not near as good as cheaper products

Usually cool products are slightly overpriced, but this has nothing to do with quality.
Beats headphones are quite good. Not the best but quite good.

Elitist nonsense.

Am I the only one who doesn't like this trend for oversized phone screens?

My personal car does but not my company vehicle unfortunately. Doesn't even have an Aux in for my music, sucks.

How is it nonsense? Someone who spends way more time on his smartphone might want to have a bigger phone that helps him get more productive.

For example - most of you english folks might not now this- the iPhone keyboard is pretty terrible on many languages. Simply a bigger keyboard would make typing easier.

Also people need to stop talking about 5" phones as if they were totally not mobile and way too large.

There sure is a difference, but it is not like it is complete night and day.

In the BYOD corporate arena, Android is a non-starter for me. I use the iphone as a work productivity tool, meaning email management is most important. The rest is fun stuff that comes along for the ride. These devices are not meant to be heavy creators of content, but they have matured into devices that make consuming content easy (and fun).

I don't know if its just me getting stuck in my ways, but I'm finding the current craze for huge phone screens getting quite annoying.

Admittedly the extra screen real estate is very nice but adds bulk to the phone and more drain on the battery, battery tech hasn't seemed to have kept up with the advances in other mobile tech. However I find screens much larger than 4 inches harder to use one handed, and find 3.5-4 inch LCDs are a great balance between usability and portability.

I see some of the larger phones being used for calls and think people look vaguely ridiculous, reminds me of the 'sidetalking' method of phoning someone on the original Nokia N-Gage!

Am I the only one that would like to see the premium models in a range include a smaller screen option, or are there similar like-minded souls?

I think the Moto x is ok. 4.7 inch screen but only a little bigger overall phone than iPhone 5s. I expect that to be apple's route for iPhone 6. Way bigger screen, only slightly bigger phone

That's what I meant by individual. Android is no good....FOR YOU.

As much as I'd prefer to use my iPad it can't do what I need it to do.

I need to make, store and email multiple zip files containing blueprints and schematics. I need a thumb drive to work in it and a dedicated file system to move files between it and the tablet. Plus it's nice to have a flash on the camera however I generally take pics with my iPhone and using Dropbox put them on the tablet. It's also nice I can connect a mouse too it but that's not a big deal.

Only alternative is my MacBook but that's a pain. Plus it's much too delicate for my line of work. If I break it...no big deal.

A lot of my co workers use windows or android phones so they don't need a tablet but I still prefer the iPhone.

5" is the limit in my opinion.
Everything bigger than that is ugly.
What about this ?

Or this :

PLEASE APPLE DONT FOLLOW THIS ROUTE !!!!

In my opinion this is already too much:

I hope that too ...
I'm just a little worried about the TouchId button, who's influencing the overall bezel dimensions.

I'm looking forward to a larger screen iPhone. I miss the 4.7" 1080p display on my HTC One. It was downright gorgeous.

Many people seem to think that a larger screen = the size of a Galaxy Note 3, but that's not the case. Look at the Moto X. It's got a much larger display (4.7") than the iPhone's, yet it is nearly the same size. It still fits wonderfully in your hand (actually feels better in your hand because of how ergonomic it is) while still giving you the benefits of a larger display. This is what Apple needs to do... increase the display size without making the device significantly bigger.

Here's a picture of a Moto X next to an iPhone for reference:
