The vibrator "Taptic engine" is a little motor. Yes it requires power to run it. Yes it uses more battery power than a mechanical button. If it's significant, we don't know. Bottom line: The 7 gets 2 hours better battery life than the 6S, and the 7+ gets an additional 1 hr. So it really doesn't matter.

I like it the more I use it. It took a minute to get used to the pressure required to register a 'click'. Having multiple IOS devices its now weird to go from using the real button on the iPad to the 7 now.

This 100%. I like it more and more the more I use it. Plus all the new haptic feedback on other apps is phenomenal.

I have to admit, it's so weird! Easily the weirdest feature of the phone like ever! But I love it! It's different and multlple times I've stopped and wondered how it works! I'm used to it now and love it more and morw

Not sure where you got the idea that you are the only one? I like it better than the actual button. I love the new trackpad on the new mac which is the same technology.

I think it's pretty awful to be honest. The haptic just doesn't feel normal at all. But it does its job.

Went to the apple store to look at the display model and get the feel of the new home button, felt weird at first but something that I'll need to get used to. But it's neat. No more mechanical buttons~

I like it too. Doesn't make much of a difference to me if it's an actual button or not. Gets the job done just as before.

I just tried it in-store and it is very different. Not different bad, different good. Just different. Pretty impressive how the haptic feedback makes it feel like the whole bottom of the device is moving/clicking. But it's just haptic feedback. Nuts.

Can't help but think the iPhone 7 Home button is just a bridge from previous clickable Home buttons to an inevitable buttonless, all screen "Home button" device (iPhone 8?). Not unlike the included Lightning-to-Headphone jack adapter... baby stepping us through change. Change I find refreshing.

I'm not yet 100% used to it. I woke up this morning and went to unlock my iPhone and realized "oh right, no home button".

Guess I need more time I don't hate JT just not used to it yet.

I really like it and don't understand the negative reviews. I thought i read that it does something else besides just functioning as the home button?

The haptic feels good, realistic even, but I'm not a huge fan of the capacitive part because I sometimes use my fingernails to press on it just to look at the time and not unlock the phone.

It's amazing. Everyone hating on it probably haven't used Force Touch trackpads.

Thats the thing though, I don't hate the new button but it is nothing like the touchpad on the new macs. My wife literally had no idea yesterday that macbook didnt have a trackpad with a real press, she didn't believe me and I had to power it off to show her. No one I have met has said that my iphone 7's home button is just like the old one.

With that said, I think everyone is blowing it out of proportion, it's definitely different but it's not horrible.

I've seen a lot of people slagging on the new home button but I'll bet there are others out there like me who think it's a clear improvement over the old mechanical button. If you're feeling the same way, speak up here!
I love the new home button and will never miss the old clicky ones. Put me down as a huge fan of this change.

It is ok but try using it one handed now, just holding bottom of iPhone. It's almost impossible now since the actual button does not move.

I also find it annoying how much I feel it move now for just pressing a fake button. Turning that option off helped.

I just tried a 7+ and 6S+ at the local :apple: store for quite a while. I'm trying to decide between the two (or just wait) for my next upgrade from my 6+. The home button haptic click was just fine after awhile. I switched back and forth and eventually I started to like the haptic version better. I'm kinda surprised .

I didn't try one-handing it though. I'll try that next time. I have a couple of weeks before I'm eligible for my next upgrade.
