My wife and I got new iPads for Christmas this year. Both of them have a bit of dust under the screen. I had to go looking for it to find it. Even with my glasses on, the only way I can see it is with a flashlight. It is not even a little bit visible while in use. Seeing as neither of them has weird tints and very minimal book spine, there is no way that I am jumping on the exchange roller coaster with these. After all of my iPad 3 exchanges, I learned that I need to pick my battles with these things. I don't like my odds of getting a flaw free one on exchange.

Great decision. If I would see something like that doesn't interfere with my usage, I don't think twice about it. And I'm speaking about electronics in general.

Time is money.

I don't think that this is a new thing. Last year, I finally sold my original first generation iPad. When I was cleaning it up to get it ready, I saw a few specs of dust under the glass. I never noticed it in the couple of years that I used it.

I do have some dust under my Air 2 screen. So does my wife. It is only noticeable when turned off, and under a bright light. I wonder how easy it is to get one without.

My iPad Air had it and after going through the exchange game I decided to keep the one I had until I sold it a few months later because it wasn't worth exchanging over and over . It had a small one which I actually forgot about for the longest time until I was trying to sell it

My iPad Air 2 doesn't have any under the screen

I was worried reading this thread, just received an air2 and i cant notice any dust even under a bright light. Im not sure my screen is completely uniform from top to bottom regarding colours but overall im satisfied.

I actually had the same thing when I bought my iPad 3 on launch day. It was such a bummer coming home and seeing it, so I went back to the store and they replaced it with a brand new one for free. You spend that much money on a product you deserve to have a flawless one.

I had a spec of dust under my first Air 2's display. I sent it back since I was able to get double the capacity (128GB) for the same price. My current one is great, no issues to complain about. And I have an abundance of storage!

Am I the only one with dust in my iPad Air 2?

Well I don't have any dust particles in my air 2 thank goodness(128GB space grey cellular version). I don't have any backlight bleed even at 100% brightness in a absolutely pitch black room either. Did all the pixel tests and what not, and no dead pixels either. It's just luck of the draw I think. I would not be happy with a dust particle myself. Especially something as noticeable as that where I might see it when playing a movie.

What probably happened is there was a bad batch where QC suffered, and you keep being sent a tablet from that bad batch. Wait a couple of months until that bad batch is out of circulation, then buy would be my advice.

But yes, 100% perfect ipad air 2 does exist, because I have one and I really love mine. I would not trade it for anything, it really is probably the best tablet in the world right now.

I returned my first ipad Air for a single spec of white dust under the center of the screen. When I buy something new, I expect it to be of high quality. Dust under the screen of a brand new device is unacceptable.

After years, my old Ipad 2 has a spec of dust under the screen. No biggie since it was fine for years, and I obviously can't return it anyway.

Whenever I buy something new, I expect it to look new. I have returned all sorts of things when they arrive with visual defects. I returned a $20 iPad case once because the case had obvious quality errors in it such as rough plastic and plastic molds that weren't right. Would that case have functioned properly? Sure, but I expect a quality item when I pay for something.

Every single Apple product I have purchased, as well as refurbs, have come in flawless condition.

My mind is so blown that some of you are opening 6 Iphone's in a row to defects. Is such a thing even possible?

Of course, it is possible. Do you think we have nothing else to do and complain just for the sake of complaining?

When I discovered several specks of dust under the glass of my old trustworthy iPad, I did not even say a word about it: I have been using it for a couple of years already. But if you buy a new iPad and see dust, well, I think you have a right to return it. It all depends on your expectations and preferences, I guess. Especially, considering that the iPad Air 2 has a new design and there shouldn't be any dust under its glass.

My mind is also blown. You can't imagine that an Apple product has defects or you don't beleive what users/members shared with us?

It was an academic question, don't feel the need to answer.

i think it would be better just to drive there and open it in store, i know its a waste of money but i think going there will make your experience better

Let's remember that Apple is now focused on high volume mass marketing. Catering to Walmart, Target, Best Buy and their own stores, they can't possibly build zillions of iDevices without compromise.

Mine came with two specs of dust at no extra charge, I just ignore them. :)

Lol

I have owned a iPhone 3GS , iPhone 4 , iPad Air and iPad Air 2. I've gone through 3 iPhone 3GS in a period of 3 months till the iPhone 4 came out because of dust under the screen, iPhone 4 speaker died after 24 hours , iPad Air had dust under every screen and exchanged around 6-8 times . This iPad Air 2 had the crackling speaker issue and my current one does as well . This time I don't have dust under the screen but there's always an issue

Foxconn makes the iPad for Apple!

They are a contractor as hp, dell, many companies have contractors. If you buy a dell or alienware (same company) and clevo makes the motherboard and it goes out it's on dell, not clevo as they hired the subcontractors.

The ultimate responsibility is with apple. It's their responsibility to have competent contractors. Apple really doesn't build anything aside from assembling the mac pro's in the us after they are built elsewhere. The only one that has a beef with foxconn is apple.

It's like having a house built in the us. You pay a company to build a house and if something is wrong it's on the construction company as they hired the subcontractors.

You are right, what I was telling the guy is that Apple does not manufacture the iPads foxconn does and the fault lies with them. Apple does have to handle the responsibility for the issue.

It is not necessary to jump in and explain to "the guy" that Apple is not manufacturing iPads, "the guy" is also aware of the fact that among other subcontractors Foxconn is putting the iPads together. Apple is, however, responsible for the quality of the devices its costumers are getting.

By the way, I have already been contacted several times by Apple representatives and Apple has issued a refund for all iPads I had purchased. I guess I did my job - which by the way had to be done by Apple's QC team in the first place - and this is basically the end of the story. I really hope that Apple will do something with pictures and information I sent to them and that iPads will not have any dust under the glass in the future.

What I am planning to do next, is to re-order the iPad again in March in hope to get a perfect one.

Well i'm glad it has worked out for you in one of many cases but keep in mind that this is an open forum and anyone is welcome to "jump in" and offer some help.

Whenever someone comes on here and says Apple could never do anything wrong and everything they make is perfect, I direct them to my story.

I had 14 iPhone 5 replacements, most were for the same issue where I would connect to a WPA2 network and after so much time I would loose my WWAN connection. WLAN would still work, but the only way to get WWAN back would be to Reset Network Settings. On the very last replacement, they had to pull 5 (not including in the 14 I actually used) iPhones from the back because when they tried to activate with Verizon they would come up with "Replacement Needed, visit an Apple Store".

Finally, after physical damage to the phone was done by the Genius who was looking at it, the store opted to replace it with an off-contract 5s (for the on-contract price). The phone does have a small screen defect (got it like that, didn't want to take it back after my i5 experience) but otherwise it has given me nor the family member using it any issue.

Why are you using a flashlight to look for dust?

Do you shine on a flashlight on your iPad during normal use? Would you have found any of this dust just doing a basic check by looking at the screen turned off under a normal overhead light in your kitchen?

I mean there is the normal basic check for defects which I think is rational and something everyone should do, but then there's just being foolish and not being satisfied until you find an issue, no matter how small or insignificant or outrageous the circumstances it takes to find it. If you look hard enough, you will find an issue on EVERY. SINGLE. IPAD. so you may as well just collect a refund and forget about it.

I'm as picky as anyone, but I'm not going to go ballistic shining flashlights on my iPad or trying to intentionally burn images into my retina MBP. Quite frankly, while I agree everyone is entitled to a quality product, people like you who abuse return policies are part of the reason these products cost so much.

Hey,
I have had every single iPad air 2 with dust or some screen marks which are emitting from the back lighting. I know crazy to get 6 or 8 iPads with these flaws but it's a fact.

Talking about a product costing more cause of flaws in them and a customer returning them is pointless, they should not have passed the quality control in the first place and should have not reached the retail stores.

I am on my 8th iPad there is dust in this one too one small spec in the screen and one in the camera I gave up and I am keeping it cause they are super small and not visible.

On the other hand I purchased 2 5k iMacs and both are flawless. I guess it's cause of the mass quantities produced.
