Didn't we hear similar estimates for the first weekend last year?

Last year the sold 1,000,000 iPads on 28 days... this year they may reach that amount in just 3 days lol

9 times faster like the "magical" graphics lol

Blurry? The iPad and iPad 2 screens are blurry? I am forced at this juncture to disagree in the strongest possible terms.

Unless you're talking about the camera in the iPad 2. That produces blurry pictures.

Use an iPhone 4 extensively, and then suddenly switch back to a 3GS, or an iPad, you'll see what he means by 'Blurry'

I’m buying one for my mom. She’s been begging for an iPod Touch, although she complains that the screen and virtual keyboard are too small. I’m convinced that it will meet 100% of her computing needs, which to date has been email, web browsing, and game play of the cards variety. Not only that, she’ll now no longer need to be in her dark and cold den where her decrepit PC sits. She’ll be able to use it anywhere in her house, FaceTime with her grandkids, listen to music in a dock upstairs, and when she gets a picture of all of the apps available, she’ll use it for things she never used her PC for. It will actually meet 200% of her computing needs.

This “iToy” is designed exactly for her demographic, as well as many more.

Exactly why my brother, sister, and I ordered one for my mom.

It's a milestone product, not just for Apple but for the entire industry. So in other words, business as usual when it comes to Apple.

I'll be picking one up on the 25th. Hopefully I can get to one it time!

To this day I can't figure out what the "potential" for the iPad is aside from a handful of very specific tasks in only a handful of professions.

I think it's safe to say that a lot of (possibly most) iPad sales are really iLust and nothing more.

Given all the shown uses it has at this point, still holding such a viewpoint seems creatively challenged at the very best.

You can't find out how or why anyone uses an iPad these days? You really probably shouldn't be reading tech forums then let alone MacRumors because clearly nothing that is being read is actually sinking in.

Those here who claim they are waiting for the iPad 3 are suffering from the equivalent of penis envy. Or: "Little display = short unit."

Yes, the iPhone 4 has the wonderful Retina display – and that display is tiny. While mages on the screen look great, they are tiny, too. Because the screen is so small, it can mask imperfections, like blur that would show up in a larger image.

Therefore, even if the iPad were equipped with a Retina display, images would not necessarily appear as sharp on it as they do on an iPhone 4. And good images, i.e. ones that don't have blemishes, look better on any iPad than they do on any iPhone, simply because size, in this case, does matter.

As a photographer, I know my photographs look great on my iPhone 4. I also know they look even better on an iPad.

Friends or clients don't think less of my images because they aren't as sharp on an iPad as they are on an iPhone. It isn't like anyone I or anyone else is going to pull out each device and compare the same image on both of them.

Mining?
Not sure Mining is one of the professions that they where thinking of when they said it was only a few professions where only useful for a few.

Wait that begs the question. How many professions need to find it useful to be successful?

wait till it officially reach Asia

P.S. It is remarkably amazing for a product to sell this well under this kind of economic uncertainty.

People whether rich or poor would want a piece of Apple products just to savor the moment of owning it.

Those naysayers can shove HTC up their candy arse.

Can you enumerate some specific uses that the iPad can do that no other device can do? Or if that doesn't exist, can you name a use that is performed better on the iPad over all other products?

Sure sitting on your couch in the living room and quickly picking something up to look up something very quickly. It is less cumbersome than a computer/laptop and displays significantly more information than a phone.

There are lots of beneficial reasons.. Anyone who claims the iPad has no value or uses is just making themselves look purposefully dumb, I am just not sure to what end...

You go to the doctor's office and want to read a book and also check a few web pages and check your stats and make an upgrade and modification to a document for work. Again all much more easier and possible with something like an iPad.

Traveling all day, watching a couple movies, checking e-mail, checking a website and the rest. Much easier with the form factor, battery life significantly better and just 100x easier to travel with...

The reality is a laptop or netbook are a poor substitute for an iPad in most circumstances not the other way around.

Whatever he thinks you can bet it's not worth reading.
Meanwhile, the piles of unsold zooms get higher and higher.

"You grab it,and wish it was an iPad 2."

For those who can't wait for Full of Win's post:

I can't prove it , but it is clear that Apple has at least 5 million ipads 1.5 in their warehouses, so they can make all the sheep fanboys stand in line for the next 5 weekends.

Typical for Apple they just care about dominating what you think and do.

Amazing that people still fall for the hype of this underpowered device without Retina display.

Apple has the ipad3 done already, but they want to catch the media attention and siphon off more of your hard earned money.

Pity..... pity .....that all of you can't think for yourselves and figure this out.

BTW: To be fair to Apple I bought 2 ipad 2's

Apple should address the world's hunger problems instead of grabbing peoples money with electronic garbage that doesn't work.

I sort of agree with CalBoy. Many uses for the iPad seem to have been made up to give the device a sense of purpose rather than there being a problem that only the iPad can solve.

The sole purpose of my iPad is as a device I use to occasionally browse the web while I'm playing on the computer or watching the TV, and I could just as easily do that on either my phone or laptop. In a lot of ways the the iPad is the solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

It's crazy how demand in different parts of the country varies. I can go to any Best Buy in Metro Detroit and buy an ipad 2 right now, but NYC and LA are a different story. In a way that's a good thing, we have priorities in Detroit and they aren't toys.

And you bought one because you had that problem that didn't exist?

Did it solve things for you?

As someone who is buying the iPad 2 and therefore couldn't fall into the category of envy, I definitely do wish the iPad 2 had doubled the resolution. If the iPad 3 does do it, I may break my usual rules of only upgrading every 2-3 years and and see if I can sell off my iPad 2.

Everything you said about photos makes sense, but for anything text based such as web browsing, email, ebooks, documentation, etc, iPhone 4's display is so much more pleasant. I had a iPhone 3g and my spouse has the iPhone 3gs and there's just no comparison.

Of course, if my primary content were video and images, I might feel slightly differently since that's a different beast.

I'm very confused by this post ("*criticism*, *criticism*, *criticism* ... but btw I bought 2 of them"). That aside, I respectfully disagree with your opinion that Apple is somehow evil for delivering an iterative product to market ("iPad 1.5", they are withholding the iPad3, etc). Apple has a track record of delivering great updates when they can. The iPad 2 is a decently-updated version of the original iPad; it's up to original iPad users to decide if they really want/need the new version, and obviously a new release helps keep Apple competitive in attracting new customers. It would do them no good to release an "inferior" product (iPad2) when they have a better one "done already" (iPad3) ... unless the newer iteration simply isn't viable (i.e., prototyping is nearly complete but the component cost or something similar is too high/risky/unavailable to deliver en masse). Your criticisms aren't necessarily unreasonable (i.e., sure, the display could be better), but it would be unreasonable to focus tablet criticism only at Apple when other table products -- such as the Xoom -- could also be considered lacking in some areas.

Please understand that I'm not trying to argue or start a fight, but I will use your post to respond to a very common sentiment throughout this thread, which is that Apple is purposely trying to create delays/hype/long-lines/etc.

Yes, they clearly want to build hype. It's what they do. It's a known aspect of Apple, love it or hate it. Yes, they make a big deal of launch days; it's also what they do, love it or hate it. But would a publicly-traded company intentionally withhold inventory from a very clear demand for the product? I have a very difficult time believing this. It makes no business sense, and Apple is a business that has a bottom line and must report to a board that must satisfy stock holders, etc, etc, etc. Now, are they strategically managing their supply chain by delivering to larger markets, "preferred business partners", etc first? Maybe; I would accept that as a viable business decision despite my own personal frustration at not being able to obtain an iPad 2 quickly.

That's my two cents, anyway ;)

What do you do for a living? I am trying to get a grasp and understanding where you mindset is coming from in terms of business when you say things like that.. I am seriously curious.
