That Astro robot has got to be a joke. How can it “remotely care for elderly relatives”? Wouldn’t a phone call or video chat be considered remote care? Or giving them an Apple Watch so you can monitor abnormalities, falls, etc.?

Remote care is possible, to a degree, with devices we already have — all without introducing a creepy robot! And I seriously doubt the robot would ever “feel like part of the family”. Good grief, is it April?

Would it go like this…

Me — “Hi Mom, I’ll be over to take you to your doctor and pick up your prescriptions”

Mom — “Astro recommended a different medication, and it is being sent to me via Amazon”

Me — “Ok, how about a walk?”

Mom — “Astro recommends an indoor Halo workout”

Me — “Fine, how about having lunch together?”

Mom — “Astro isn’t hungry”

The Astro Robot looks epic. I would totally go for this as I have Ring cameras already.

I wish Apple would try this level of creativity and innovation.

Surface.

Touch on an OS that was never designed for touch.

Really? Is that despite the fact Windows was changed into an official touch interface from Windows 8, and it has been used as a touch interface in specific devices for several generations before that.
Sorry but I don't think you could be any more wrong, and at least one manufacture has the sense to provide an OS able to make full use of the powerful hardware it charges you for. The iPad Pro is certainly incapable of doing so. iPad OS is an amazing operating system for sure, but it cannot match Windows or Mac OS and indeed lacks many of a full OS features. Yet the iPad Pro now bears the exact same silicon as most of Apples full blown computer range does.

Totally agree - You couldn't pay me to put Amazon tracking junk all over my house.

How about the Ring camera that can fly all over your house on its own and look around?

Remember - Ring -- the company that is working hand in hand with police departments to allow/enable them to use your camera when they want.

HELL.
NO.
Right! Wow! What employees at Amazon thought this was a good idea?!

Great! Competition is good and all these products make Apple look lazy and conservative.
(And yes this one of those annoying all Apple guy talking...)
totally agree. as much as i'm not interested in most of this stuff at least they're doing something and trying to innovate. when apples biggest product announcement of the season is a refreshed iPad mini ya know innovation is out the window.

Astro looks to be part D-O from The Rise of Skywalker and part OG Apple Magic Trackpad

Remember Windows still uses the same registry from 1992 Windows 3.1. It is a huge issue that makes it inherently unstable. I remember a discussion with a Microsoft support level 2 agent who had to take me into it for a repair when I had a work issue. He commented that it was a house of cards and apologized for having to take me so deep into it. One mistake in the wrong place = Disaster. Remember every program you install makes changes to it over and over.

There is a reason Amazon will sell these, people want them. The majority understand what they are giving up in terms of privacy, their choice. It is possible for the masses to want the convenience and benefits whilst also understanding and accepting the risks, again, their choice. Working out well for Amazon and Google for that matter. Neither can hear you bitching over the sound of their cash registers.

But remember you can trust Apple over anyone! You can't actually prove that, just need to believe what their marketing department tells you.

Now this is innovation while Apple keeps on squeezing the most of the iPhone … SJ legacy. Next year … Touch ID on the iPhone Pro I tell you. Break through technology and Grammys … “best Phone we ever done … next a word with Jennifer”

that robot is probably the most real life dystopian thing I've ever seen. no. way. not. ever.
Small house robots have a HUGE potential, especially for the disabled. It would be really nice if I could buy something that does the things that are hard (or impossible) for me to do.

This thing's a toy, I want a robot that can actually do stuff!

And no, a robot vacuum, doesn't qualify as doing "stuff", though they are handy.

they need to make a device that rolls around the roof to say hi to the birds that keep going inside the solar panels

Still waiting for Homekit support for my ring alarm…
Don't raise your hopes on that. The day I learned that Amazon bought Ring, HomeKit support is out the window. With their own monitoring plan, I don't see a reason for them to add HomeKit support.
