Sooooo... Let me get this straight, I can store a TB of photos for one price or a TB of other data for another price? It's all 1's and 0's! What's the difference?

This reminds me of something my Father used to ask: What weighs more, a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks?

Also reminds me of the old cell phone commercials: Data's data!

Apple should take note of this, and start offering an unlimited iCloud storage tier for a similar price. This way, ,they can make their own solutions more attractive for their customers, as well as attract customers from competing cloud services. This would be a win-win for everyone. Apple's current iCloud storage pricing is very expensive compared to the competition.

This is just a speculation, but maybe it has something to do with the maintenance of the servers? It's possible that if you can design and build for just photos/video that you can use a certain hardware/software optimization that would achieve the same reliability but with lower cause, as compare to when you have to deal with all sort of file format? Maybe someone with more knowledge and speak to this. Or maybe it's just all about profit in the end, haha.

This unlimited Amazon thing is great, but their sharing and social integration seems to be very lacking. I just logged in and cannot seem to share more than 1 pic file at a time and also cannot share a folder. Wtf??

If you read their TOS, it says they may access, modify, or use your photos or "Your Files" how they see fit.

I would only upload encrypted images in encrypted folders.

Awesome. I still find OneDrive a better deal since you get Office365 with it for just a little more. But I love seeing more players in this game. Hopefully Apple will offer more value in their storage options soon.

But it's not 1TB is it? It's unlimited. So you can store ALL your photos for one price, or ALL your photos AND all your other stuff for another price.

Since all your photos + all your other stuff is more than just all your photos then of course it will cost more.

This is tempting! Apple will have to offer unlimited soon if they want to remain competitive. Nearly all other services are moving in that direction.

Is Amazon still in the red? Seems like they have no worries undercutting everyone in everything they do. Hah.

You would think Amazon of all companies would know the definition of 'privacy'

"They are safe, until we need to access them, then they are not safe"

What iCloud SHOULD BE

I've emailed Tim a few times expressing my dislike for the iCloud, and this was the main reason. iCloud Drive should be able to take a video or photo I choose and store it at full rez. If I want to delete it from the phone or tablet, I can do so, and it is still in the cloud. Why this feature isn't active on iCloud now blows my mind. I pay .99 a month for more storage because I have a 16gb phone, but I can't store more than what my phone will hold. Good move Amazon, hope Apple follows!

I e-mailed Amazon UK regarding this announcement, and they replied stating that there are no plans to introduce an Unlimited tier at a similar price point in the UK.

Boo!

I know Amazon and Apple have different business models but Apple should get their storage tiers to 2015 standards: 10GB of free storage for iCloud and no 16GB flagship devices.

The 5GB of storage we got was back in 2011 and we didn't have Retina iPads/Macs or 240fps slow-motion video. Times & devices have changed but not Apple's cloud storage.

Yep, they're really coming as cheap by keeping those tiers.

If Apple made Music Match to 50,000 tracks, then I would not be thinking about alternatives to it, like this.

Exactly what my first thought was. They are so behind the competition. I would subscribe in a heartbeat if they could just accept my whole library.

Competitive with what? You can always find a more economical solution than an Apple product. Apple doesn't have to compete on bottom line price when they can add convenience and prestige taxes. (I would say quality as well, but for Apple's notorioiusly poor history with online services.)

I doubt many people are going to choose to buy a Fire Phone over an iPhone, or buy more books or diapers from Amazon, because they saved a few dollars using Amazon's online storage.

Having multiple cloud accounts on which to store your pics is what will furnish you with a catastrophic failure backup.

At least if the 5GB iCloud storage was per device!

Thanks for Office 365 99$/year 1TB per user for 5 users. Works for me. iCloud can back up iMessage at least LOL.

Seriously? To put it simply... because those only choosing to backup photos will use a lot less.

Give me the chance to backup every photo I have and I'll use around 400GB. Let me backup everything and I'm using 15TB.
