Thanks so much for the heads up. Amazon agreed to refund $35 for my high end 15" since it was $2194 just 3 days ago when I ordered it. Kudos to them in my book!

I've always been a huge advocate for Amazon. They set the standard for customer service & fast response much better than Apple.

The 13 inch base model takes 2 weeks to ship as of today. It's cheaper by a couple hundred from retail with free shipping and no tax so if you can wait then this is a good buy.

Amazon is a great place to buy a Mac. I bought my 2010 base 15" from them for only $1,675. The best time to buy is on Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) or the Black Friday weekend. I bought mine on the weekend, Saturday and it was slightly cheaper the day before. So if you are in the market for a new Mac around the November, that is a one of the best places to buy, no tax, free shipping and a great return policy.

I just see that the 17 inch I ordered yesterday also dropped in price. I'll be contacting them http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002C74D7A

Went into live chat. Got credited without effort. Took 2 seconds.

Thanks for the heads up.

Edit: I called Amazon again and walked th operator through my situation and after a little hesitation, she gladly refunded my money. She did say that because it was over 7 days after ship date, normally they do not refund money. She was very helpful and I will retain my Amazon Prime status. :)

They refused to give me a credit. I ordered mine on 2/27 and received it last Thursday. I e-mailed and called and the refused and referred me to their post order price policy. I guess should have asked for a manager or something, but I am at work and don't have time to deal with it. Still got a good deal with no tax and two day shipping free, I'll just cancel amazon Prime now.

Strange...seems like everyone else is easily getting refunded the difference. I say when you have time, call back or go into online chat to talk to someone else. Someone you talked to wasn't having a good day at the office. ;)

10 days is a stretch. A different person may approve it. It hasn't even been 24 hours for my order yet and it isn't even delivered. So in these situations I'm sure they'll be more lenient. Good luck though.

How is amazon in refund? I'm going to buy in applestore with edu discount but with taxes just because if there's something wrong (heat issues or dead pixels) they will exchange with no problems. Instead amazon takes 15% if i don't prove it has a real problem.

Amazon has also been known to close people's accounts for high-value returns. They will generally honor your returns, just like it says in their policies. But they monitor accounts and routinely go through and close them over expensive returns. I had this happen over a TV. I received one that had a known and serious defect, was blatant enough to capture with a photo (which I did). They swapped it for another one, which had the same issue. When I contacted them about it they simply closed my account. Keep in mind this was a manufacturing defect that had been acknowledged. (the anti-glare coating was all screwed up)

I was pretty stunned when it happened as I'd used them for practically everything for years.

It seems to be based on the percentage value of returns. So you can order books, CDs, DVDs, games, etc for years.. then have trouble with a computer or TV and you end up on the wrong side of their mass closings dragnet.

Sorry ... best case scenario is to use a student discount and get it tax free ... I saved myself hundreds of dollars and then upgraded RAM for half as much as Apple was charging.

WIN

how do you use a student discount and get it tax free at the same time and from where?

If you have a Micro Center near you they generally discount Macs. The one in MA is currently selling the 2199.00 MBP for 1999.00 but you'll have to pay sales tax on top of that.

THIS MUST MEAN UPDATES SOON! Don't buy!

Well I got 200 off with military discount and paid 85 for additional two year protection... I can live with that.

Where did you get this sort of deal? The military exchanges don't have it for this price? Does Apple give a special deal to military?

i just bought this the other day for $1794

Just sent an email to see if they send me back $80 which would rock.

This isn't personally directed at you, im just using your post as example.

Why in the world do people think that they are entitled to a refund just because the price went down. I guess you could argue that it saves everyone hassle as you could just return it and buy a new one at the lower price. But really, you don't see people getting price refunds on their groceries when the price of corn goes down, or when bud light goes on sale. This I feel is kind of the same, on a certain day, you purchase a certain product at a certain price, meaning that it holds at least that much value (or future value, since you are having it delivered). Just because its market value went down, shouldn't really affect your completed purchase; although it might teach you to wait a week for new toys.

BTW i realize the response to this will be, because the 80 bucks to amazon isn't worth a frustrated customer; but if people didn't expect this type of thing, they wouldn't be frustrated by a business simply replying with "thats how supply and demand work..."
