I think they use their "prime" movies benefit in order to get people to buy and rent from their store. They made an exception with the neutered ios app since it's just mobile, but are unwilling to port the same neutered app to Apple TV......and yes, we need to wait and see but, we don't need to wait 3 years to see if Amazon or UV apps are going to be coming.....

Flixster say their UV app is in development.

I wouldn't hold my breath but you know, ...maybe? Flixster is a pretty lousy app, not many people are using it...imo, so maybe they would be willing?

Chatting to them via support this week, They confirmed that it was 'in development' and coming soon.

Extracted from letter I received today from Amazon regarding Apple TV App (I added bold):

"In recent years, Prime Video has become a really important part of the Prime experience. It’s important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion. Therefore, we are not offering the Apple TV on our site and Amazon Video App for Apple TV."

No info on future plans, blah, blah, blah.

The format wars need to end for digital video. All codes and all digital purchases should be available on all services regardless where purchased..we don't need 5 different DVD players.....

Does Amazon have any competition for shopping :)

No, they do not. At all...

I have Amazon Prime for the shipping reduction. Looks like I had 99 different orders in 2015. So my Amazon Prime membership paid off for me.

I have the Amazon Video app on my TV, iPad and iPhone but rarely use it.

Even on my MBP, using the Amazon website itself, its not that fun to navigate Amazon Video... I find the free Instant Video confusing with having to buy or rent a title...

I hope that Amazon provides an app for my ATV4 sometime in the future but based on what I have seen them provide on the devices listed above, it probably won't be that cool anyway...

Prime isn't as good as Hulu and Netflix (especially if you have HBO). The only thing Prime is good for is the free 2 day shipping.

I have recently seen a movie or two not on the others but not a big deal. Also, I have watched 2-3 TV series that were (like Falling Skies) only on Amazon via AirPlay which they have done well. I think it would be great to have them on AppleTV and include there movies in the SIRI Search. I want one interface to all my content for easy access. I do have a Vizio 70" 4K which has both NETFLIX and Amazon and more but I seldom use it. Again, 1 UI and 1 remote is my what I want.

It varies from region to region. I've read that in Germany Amazon Prime is totally dominant, far ahead of Netflix. Where I am in the UK Netflix probably has the edge but they're both big players. When the new Top Gear spin off starts on Netflix it will be a massive deal and drive a lot of new subscriptions. If Apple don't have a Prime app on the ATV by then it will hurt them.

Doesn't quite sound like it's as easy as making an app and putting it on....^^^

Hey, don't kill the messenger....this thread is full of people that can't figure out why Amazon, and others don't just go ahead and make an app already....""""Don't they know there is an app store now...IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH APPLE""""....well apparently it does. Does it make more sense to say Apple has nothing to do with it, and everybody is just to lazy too make an app?

Yes it does because companies like Netflix, Now TV, BBC iPlayer, HBO etc all have apps when Apple also sells their shows and movies in iTunes.

Exactly ZERO of those compete with itunes....
They all offer content you can buy on iTunes, that's competition.

I could stream a film on Netflix or buy it on iTunes, I could stream Game of Thrones or again buy it on iTunes.

How can you say they don't compete?

Absolutely. I buy a lot of movies on iTunes and right before i decide to buy or not to buy a movie, i check the availability on Netflix.

I agree, the original content makes it worth more than just shipping. The lack of an integrated solution for Apple TV is an annoyance though. Can't wait for the new "Top Gear."

I wish Amazon would sell through Apple and just include the cost breakout showing Apple's take so it's plain to everyone.

There are 2 models....

model 1: Offer a block of content for 1 monthly fee...content changes over time, you have no control....ie, Netflix

Model 2: Offer sales and rentals of any movie or TV show. Build a library of owned content.....this is itunes, Vudu, Amazon, Flixster, Cinemanow, M-Go, etc....

Amazon is like itunes offering Rentals and sales however, they also offer a Netflix like rotating block of content that can be viewed with an Amazon prime account....."Amazon prime".

Exactly, there really is no reason Amazon could not JUST over Amazon Prime App on Apple TV 4 so that their Amazon 2 day shipping subscribers could have access to what they are paying for. The fact that maybe they will not do that "because" they do not want to is completely up to Amazon. You may say the fact that Apple will not allow them to SELL Products (movies/rentals) without receiving a "Sales Commission" is also Amazon's Choice. Apple is in the busing to make money as well. And that is their business model. Amazon along with Vudu, Flixster and others can decided to provide a player only where you buy your content elsewhere and not pay Apple a "Sales Commission" for access to Apples Customer base. Then the customer has a choice. Pretty simple to me. Like on the iPad, Apple is saying they welcome all to the platform. But if you make sales on the platform then you need to pay a commission to reach their customer base. This is good for some but not others. For Hulu, you can buy on the Apple TV or on the Hulu website. And Hulu charges less if you buy on their web site to offset the 15% they have to pay to Apple. Again, it is Hulu that makes this decision. Netflix charges the same. Also, Hulu and Netflix may offer more perks if they want to encourage you to buy from them. Amazon could do the same thing. Again, really up to Amazon.

Well, saying that there are two models doesnt mean that model 1 cant compete with model 2. As i said, if theres a movie on Netflix i dont buy or rent it on iTunes. I would call that competition.

Exactly, and Apple could put an itunes app on Google play, Amazon and many other places, just might have to pay a fee. They choose not too, it's Apples choice. Can we really blame others for making the same choice Apple has? My point before is still true, this is all good for Roku.

It's true there is some overlap between the 2. It's not direct competition though imo. Some may choose 1 model over the other but most use both for different reasons.

You can't rent a movie on HBO. You also can't build an owned library on those "all you can eat" services. they both serve a need. There is some overlap.

Exactly my point. You can blame Apple for not putting iTunes on other platforms and not the other platforms. Likewise do not blame Apple for decisions made my Amazon.

Regarding Roku. This one thing will not help Roku in the long run. To many other Apps not on Roku to benefit others.
