That's what doesn't make sense to me, I have it on my Sony blu-ray player, but not my ATV. I know this has been discussed ad nauseam, but I just think that Amazon content and Prime program is more of a profit center than fire tv products. They should make it available for every device they can.

Clearly they are. It's on many many devices. The million dollar question is why isn't it on Apple TV. Opinions seem to vary on the why.

People keep believing that somehow Apple is at fault. Ultraflix is on the Apple TV. It has its own store to rent and purchase content directly on the Apple TV.

So what is Amazon's excuse now?

Amazon Instant is not on the Apple TV because Amazon doesn't want to be on the Apple TV. Period.

Amazon did this before.... Comixology was a wonderful app with its own store on iOS devices. Then Amazon bought them..... What was the first thing Amazon did???

Shut down in-app purchases.

Just got my Apple TV! Can't believe Amazon STILL isn't available.

I love their shows and I'm going to end up not watching them if they aren't on Prime! If they have apps on literally every other device, why not this one!

Also waiting for a Twitch.tv app (which Amazon also owns!).

While it is easy to think that Amazon Prime is on "literally every other device", it isn't true.
It isn't on any android tv OS powered smart tv except for Sonys. And of course it could be pointed out that iTunes video and audio isn't available on any media player except those from Apple...
But the state of streaming apps and media boxes and smart TVs is just a hot mess, even worse if you want 4K support.

Well, it's obvious it's not coming at this point. If Amazon had wanted it out, it would be. It's not like it's hard to do.

I disagree completely. It could be just timing or it could be they may have decided to create something all new from the ground up. Netflix is totally different on this platform than even the other appletvs.

And one must wonder how they are going to deal with sending people to purchase stuff on the web. Also if they will interstate Siri voice search.

I think the odds are it's a lot more than just a port to get it over to ATV, especially if they want to incorporate voice search. It may even be easier to port at ATV app to iOS so maybe they launch a brand new app to ATV then launch new ones for devices. As long as they don't mess up like Netflix. My that thing is a disaster.

I might be wrong, but this version of the netflix app is the same (from what I have heard) as the app on other streaming boxes. Us getting this version might have nothing to do with the apple tv, but more to do with what the netflix app now looks like on all platforms going forward

You are exactly right. All up to Netflix Now.

Except it is so buggy on the 4th gen Apple TV. Video freezes and audio continues. App kicks me back to the home screen. Credits shrink and you can't sometimes get them full screen it will even lock up and crash.

Weird.... I've never experienced such issues. Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app?

+ there is no option to list the stuff by genres.
This can be done on nearly every other player.

I finally gave up on ATV getting Amazon. Between no 4K support in the ATV and no Amazon Prime, the ATV has been relegated to mostly just interacting with my iTunes library.
I've switched to mostly using the new Amazon FireTV that has 4K support. It covers the 4K from Amazon and Netflix just fine. The YouTube app on it doesn't support 4K but then I really don't use YouTube much.
Fortunately my TV has YouTube 4K support for those odd times I do want it, and also has Ultraflix which is a very good 4K PPV provider.
From my POV until Apple gets busy on the ATV and gets 4K support and at minimum, all the major streaming provider apps I won't be getting a new one. The bottom line is that the current ATV 4 just turned out not to have enough more than the ATV 3 that it was money not well spent when I bought it.

And in my opinion your sentiment is exactly why Amazon has not released an app on the new ATV. They want prime members to buy a Fire TV. They are following Apple's example.

I'm sure there is at least some of that going on. Prime isn't on any Android TVos either with the exception of Sony. And of course as you allude to, Apple doesn't offer iTunes support on any other set top streamers.

Personally I'm sorely tired of needing multiple streaming boxes all with their own UI and issues. I would be willing to pay good money for a single box with all the blasted apps though I suppose I shouldn't start holding my breath!

Is there a Vudu app for fire? I'm trying to decide between that, Roku or NVIDIA shield. Will need Netflix, Vudu and Amazon to complete the circle of video sources. I've finally come to terms with the reality of AppleTV. They aren't in the business of providing a home theater level product, they just want to provide you with portability of digital content, their digital content. They do so with a second rate streamer for your kid that's using it with a 42" set and a soundbar.

They have screwed this up to a point where the only alternative for a lot of digital content is to buy it from them as they are being weeded out of the digital copy environment by the studios. They don't believe you should up have 7.1 audio even thought it's the norm and they don't play well with others (UV), yet their device is allegedly capable of 7.1. This makes zero sense and they are tweaking with the DD 5.1 signal they give you to boot.

I'll keep the iPads and iPhones for now because they work, but the digital ecosystem is done. Amazon has what I need in terms of storing my music in the cloud for the same price as Match and Vudu has what I need in movies. Apple won't get a penny more from us for their ecosystem. We're done.

What woke me up? My brother has both and we switched back and forth between the ATV and Roku with the same movie. Roku was pushing a 7.1 signal while Apple was stuck on 5.1 with whatever audio disaster it is that they are using that suppresses the audio. On a 55" set the picture wasn't Bluray, but there was no difference at all in the video quality between both streaming services.

Amazon Video updated...

No mention of tvOS support. Not at home to double check though
Further cementing my suspicion that Amazon has no intention of addressing this.

No it doesn't have Vudu. Seems odd that it would be missing that one.
It doesn't have Vudu for the same reason that Apple TV doesn't have Vudu or Amazon Instant Video.

Amazon, Walmart, and Apple are direct competitors for digital purchasing, and they don't want to support the competition. It's as simple as that.

Folks can blame Amazon, or blame Apple, or blame whomever they want... but there is no one entity to blame. They are competitors, and won't play nice together. It's not that hard to explain.
