My credit card company took this order off pending transactions and put the money back into my account. Banks have a certain # of days on pending before they have to put the money back into your account if the invoice is not turned into a sale.

Still not shipped. "Shipping Soon"

I ordered from Amazon Thursday night. It still shows "Shipping Soon." If I had chose to pay for shipping they would have sent it out on Friday.
As a Prime subscriber, one new (at least new to me) shipping option is "FREE No-Rush Delivery (5-7 days) Get $1 to Spend on MP3s - Learn More".

So they give me a buck to spend on MP3s if I'm not in a rush?

Oddly enough, there's usually no difference in delivery date between the FREE Two-Day Shipping and the One-Day Shipping (which translates into FREE One-Day Shipping most of the time). And it's not uncommon to have them deliver on Saturday for no additional charge now, either. :D

Just noticed this on my Prime account as well. Interesting approach.

As far as the Prime option, paying $79 per year will speed things up, but it is a little weird to pay a company for my business. I guess there's no free lunch.

This may be somewhat unrelated to the OP, but with Amazon, I try to pick free shipping ($25 min) whenever I can and am happy with the arrangement and timing.

That's exactly what this thread is about. ;)

I don't see it as paying for my business, that's what BJ's, Sam's Club and Costco do. You are paying for a membership that provides free 2nd day shipping on most products.

Normally you have to pay for S&H anyway, and if you use Amazon often, as I do. It pays for itself in just a few months. I can order something and usually get it the next day....sometimes it's 2 days though and it only cost me the cost of the yearly membership, which is probably not worth it if you don't use it 4 to 8 times minimum a year, depending on the size of the items you have shipped.

Okay package was sent out yesterday and delivered today 5/09/2012 so it came quicker than their delivery estimate of 5/10 to 5/12.

They used a carrier called Lasership, which I never even heard of.

I hope you're not penalized like this again.

So now you want a voice in what shippers they use?

So you ordered a item off of Amazon, got it within 5 business days (2 days less than expected). So after 1 long dreadful business day of waiting you started a Amazon is evil thread? What am I missing?

I used to think that too. Then I got up for a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime. I used it so much, I immediately renewed the subscription when the trial ended. For $79 a year (~6.58/month), it's worth every penny, IMO.

Yes I guess I was a bit hasty

No I don't care what carrier they use--just curious as all.

yeah a little bit hasty, but I understand. I've been buying things off the internet for years, and that's the biggest downfall is that you have to wait a little though it's getting faster all the time. You could just go to the store, but you pay extra for that.

Prime also gets you access to free streaming movies, TV shows and eBooks (though not their entire catalog of movies, TV shows and eBooks are included).

That's true as well, though I never found any good movies available. I haven't looked lately, but I would guess the selection still sucks.

It's a courier service. They have them in DC too. I think they have a network of retailers who they farm out orders to and box them up in amazon packaging and courier them to you.

It's mostly back catalog stuff but the selection is growing significantly faster than I expected it to. I'm enjoying revisiting older TV shows (like DS9) that aren't available for streaming on Netflix.

Thanks, I have the Amazon prime app on my XBMC on my ATV2. I will have to check out the selections again. It's been several months since I last looked.

It depends on what you do, we order a ton of stuff from Amazon, especially when you get to larger/heavier things, couple items will more than cover the yearly fee in savings between the free 2 day shipping and cheaper cost of items in general (I just ordered some new bookshelf monitor speakers for the computer room for much cheaper on prime than retail, so not only cheaper price but no paying for shipping either). Friend is on our account as well as he orders pry at least 5 things a month.

I can say after two years of having it, paying for prime is well worth it. Plus there are other little bonuses, i.e. my GF was able to save a ton of money with her psychology stuff she needed post doc. She ended up paying about 400-500 for stuff brand new that would have cost about a grand retail or anywhere else and still get the free 2 day shipping (which would have been $$$ on all that stuff). If you have a friend/family member that is a student you can have them open an account and pay them for it, as they give you a discount (or at least used to), think my GF paid like $30 or something like that before her post-doc.

Never had an issue with shipping though, even before using prime.

Agree, well worth it! And yeh I've noticed it depends on what "time" you order and which location it's shipped from. I've had stuff delivered next day, and others right on the two day mark.

I got the free month of Prime when I got a Kindle Fire. I ordered something late one night (after midnite) and I had the option to pay a few dollars extra to receive it later that day. I thought there is no way they're going to be able to deliver this later today, but I figured I'd try it for a few dollars.

Sure enough, about twelve hours later a guy in an unmarked blue cavalier showed up with my package. I was shocked.

That being said, I pretty much always go with the free shipping. They usually estimate it to arrive 7-10 days later but I usually get the item in 3 or so, depending on weekends and stuff.

Outside of food and some household items, I buy almost everything on Amazon and check almost everything against Amazon's prices. With that said, I have Amazon Prime and love it. I'd say 99% of the time, it comes on time via the free 2nd day shipping. On maybe 20% of the time, it will be arrive next day if it's close enough.

What really impressed me was I ordered something late Thursday night, expected it Tuesday. It shipped Friday and arrived Saturday.

And yes, the free shipping option (for a short period when I let my Prime membership lapse) is hit or miss. But if you really want it/need it, pay for the expedited shipping.
