And all of us are still waiting for a Apple TV update.... You would think this would be a priority with Apple by now.

Apple needs to definitively tell us if they are in this set-top market or they should retire the Apple TV and move on. I don't care what they have up their sleeves but I want to know if they are working on ANYTHING?!

Apple needs to make an announcement soon, like early 2015, something related to a new set-top entertainment platform to revolutionize the Apple TV and bring a gaming and app marketplace to the livingroom and significantly enhance it's feature set, like 4K streaming and gaming.

If Apple has another major keynote speech that does not mention anything new with Apple TV then I think Apple should end this product and quietly declare they lost the livingroom.

Riiiiiiight. Apple's doing just fine without your advice. Any forum that starts as "Apple needs to do this…", you've already lost your argument. It's more accurate to say, "I think Apple should do what I think…"

Apple TV does AirPlay. And that's awesome. And the interface is minimal and easy to use.

doom! doom! I've been using their products since before I was born and im concerned about apple!

please.. enjoy your landfill sticks -- they'll be right next to the failed Amazon Fire phones that failed.

a Mac for $499....is a helluva thing. no surprise its not high end.

Seriously? I guess no one can question Apple. Sorry if offended you...

Also, I also didn't forecast any "doom," that was your knee-jerk reaction.

BTW the Mac Mini is decent, but pretty dated, no quad-core option, and comparatively overpriced even at $499.

On the other hand, the iMac 5K looks like a great machine (though the usefulness of the display will likely outlast the non-upgradable internal components).

And you wouldn't be tied to how overpriced iTunes is for media.

Why do you say tied to iTunes for media? Do you mean iTunes Store?
I'm not required to buy anything from iTunes Store, I get movies, music, whatever from a variety of sources that I can stream to my TV.

Yes, I load them into iTunes libraries (sometimes I need to convert first) then stream through appletv. But it doesn't necessarily cost me anything.

can you run popcorn time on this somehow? Is it useful in Canada as we have no access to Hulu etc?

There are plenty of devices like that on the market already. Belkin as a good line of HDMI wireless transmitters.

i'm assuming there's a lot of setup and requires a wireless network?

i just want an hdmi that transmits adhoc mode that works on iphone/macbook to mirror the display that I can take to a classroom and project on the projector.

what sam said.

so I can airplay the screen on my iphone to chromecast?

so what is the business model here? i don't get it. selling a cheap video device for cheap... how does this help their bottom line? a curious shareholder wants to know.

Since the start of the internet, you've been required to pay that sales tax. You've just been breaking state and federal tax laws and not paying it on your taxes each year. If a retailer does not charge tax on their website, it is your responsibility to pay it. Just be grateful that you haven't been charged it before now.

Only need the Prime account to get Prime Video. All the other services work without one though you will pay $39 for it rather than $19 without a Prime account.

I have prime but I bought two, figured we could use it as a present for a relative in the coming holidays, thanks!!

the mac mini is targeted to sell to the millions of grade schools and up in the developing world and at home that already have keyboards and monitors filling their junk bins but want to get their kids educated on the apple ecosystem. in most of these countries to see a school with apple computers brings a smile to the parents faces.

I love sarcasm

Interesting fact, don't you know that half pound butter is as heavy as and an iPhone 6 plus is larger than aTV?

what the hell are you talking about? i'm not unpacking my apple tv with cords + remote every single time I need to setup airplay.

Don't write off Amazon for one failure

Well, when Apple messes up once, the whole world goes bat **** crazy.
(Remember the Apple is doomed crowd??)

Guess it isn't safe to point out any faults in a company that isn't Apple.

Seriously? You're that naive? "A better cheaper option"? People's needs are different than yours. Better is subjective, in no way, shape or form, even from you, is it remotely subjective. Nice try though.

the aTV is TRASH for many people and GREAT for many others. I personally think the aTV is trash and at $99, that makes me LOL.

Ok, as someone that watched you bash that guy for enjoying the use of his ATV (which is completely pointless and rude).... and reading you say what a rip-off it is.... you CAN NOT completely duck his question of what product you think is a better product for a better price. You must have one in mind, for you to be so definitive in saying that the ATV is a ripoff. What is it? At least have the b*lls to go on record, while you are so being so rude to others.

Not sure how this will do but it's pretty amazing how fast technology is changing. I never thought I'd see the day where 1 GB of memory, a dual-core processor & 8 GB of storage could be on a device the size of a flash drive. And all that for $39? Wow.

It's true.

Makes the 1 GB of RAM in the iPhone 6/6+ seem a little cheap, doesn't it? ;)

and thats why my previous post outlined what i use my apple tv (and any potential set top boxes for).

nevermind..........

Yea, ignore him. I thought you were asking some pretty forward questions... and i really don't get what he means by they "lacked logic."
If it makes him happy to rip someone for saying they like what they have, so be it. If it makes him happy to tell you it's a rip-off... but ignore repeated requests to offer better alternatives... then he really isn't here to advance any kind of civil discussion.

----------

For your use? Only you KNOW that. See what all the options are, compare them against each other, then make your decision, only you can do that accurately.

How on earth can you make this statement.... yet you ripped him and told him that his product was a rip-off? Wouldn't this depend on what he personally uses it for and if it works for him? My god, apply your own statement above to what you shout at other people.

Google and Amazon are innovating, at least for the products many people want.

appleTV, the non-updated iPad Mini, and the non-upgradeable Mac Mini are true fails for Apple right now.

And I've been an Apple user (and pretty close to a fanboy) since 1986.

Not everyone who wants good products is a high-end user.

If you aren't at least somewhat frustrated by Apple, you're not paying attention.

(PS ordered 2 Fire TV Sticks)

"the greatest product pipeline in the past 25 years"

I switched to the Fire TV and sold my ATV2. The only thing I would like is a dedicated iOS app that was promised to control it. Airplay isn't as smooth as with ATV but it works most of the time.

Plus, XBMC or Kodi works great with it.

Nice to see your happy with "not as smooth", and "works most of the time."
