i give up lol
nevermind man ill ask for help/suggestion elsewhere

i didnt think I was trying to be nuisance by asking 'i love the apple tv and if theres anything better (for my use)...what is it?'

For your use? Only you KNOW that. See what all the options are, compare them against each other, then make your decision, only you can do that accurately.

Sure, I could just guess and tell you what to get but that's dumb.

I don't understand the need for more than one opinion.

haha... same lol

Very smart, except for his company hardly making any money.

Really? You think Amazon is not making any money?

What are you drinking this evening? LMAO

And further more, how much is Apple making off of Apple TV?
I'll let you know if they ever release those numbers or when hell freezes over whichever comes first! LOL

Obviously you didn't see their earnings last week. They got killed!

Sounds like you want a Roku or ATV. The Chromecast is definitely a support device. A pretty good at that. I personally love it. I keep one in my computer bag when I'm on the road. It's saved my bacon more than once with presentations and the consumption value is sweet. Plus for $35? It was a no brainer for me. Never regretted it.

I know what I want. It's not out there.

Not sure I follow. What do you mean, "what do you think those things are"? They're devices I own that work really well with Apple TV.

I meant chromecast and the Amazon Stick do that too. no need to point it out like some kind of special feature ;)

Can we please stop calling these things 'Apple TV Competitors'?

At this point ATV is so far behind that it's unfair to the rest of the devices being released.

Well said! I was waiting patiently to see if there was going to be an updated ATV, or even at least a direct use app to access Prime video. At $19, it is a no-brainer.

I wanted streaming capabilities for my bedroom TV but never wanted to spend a lot of money to get it since it wouldn't be used often, but for 20 bucks, this was a no brainer.

Not sure how this will do but it's pretty amazing how fast technology is changing. I never thought I'd see the day where 1 GB of memory, a dual-core processor & 8 GB of storage could be on a device the size of a flash drive. And all that for $39? Wow.

yep pretty neat stuff, got mine ordered

Interesting to note that it doesn't come with voice control in the remote - that's a decently priced addition.

FYI, the remote app provides voice control (for free, though obviously requires a smartphone - currently available for Android, “coming soon” for iOS)

Looked great until I read the details and notice you need to plug it into a wall outlet.

I believe you’ll be able to use a USB -> MicroUSB cable, of course, assuming your TV has available USB ports. Our main set in the TV room has 2 USB ports, and HDMI within about 8” on the back (or ~4” side mount right under the USB ports).

(Side note: I wonder if these types of devices become popular enough, if the HDMI spec will eventually gain power so they could be totally self-contained)

At Amazon, it says you can bring the thumb drive to another TV in the house, or to a TV at someone else's house and watch.

Sure. It’s just a network device that authenticates using your credentials. Take it over to a friend’s house, plug it in, connect to their network on you’re up and running.

For $19 I may give it a shot.

It does less than a Chromecast does. I'd be all down to try it but with a Chromecast already, I don't see a single compelling reason to buy one (it does do Amazon Prime Video I suppose but I can do that on the iPad and computer). Yeah it's just a pithily $19 but still $20 for something I don't see having any more functionality than what I already have.

Amazon just posted record $437 million loss, so no, they aren't making money.

On a device like this they generally take a loss or make nothing. It's about getting you to buy stuff like movie rentals, music downloads, etc once you have one. Same strategy with the Chromecast.

damn- tried to buy 5 at that price and got bonked to 2 :-(

Offer clearly states it's a 2 maximum.

Offer limited to two per customer and account while supplies last; may be limited to one per customer and account if indicated on the Fire TV Stick page.

Being able to power via the TVs USB would be nice. However, according to the documentation for simple setup on Amazon's website it must be plugged into the wall and cannot be powered directly by your HDTV>

I switched to the Fire TV and sold my ATV2. The only thing I would like is a dedicated iOS app that was promised to control it. Airplay isn't as smooth as with ATV but it works most of the time.

Plus, XBMC or Kodi works great with it.
Can I ask how you airplay from an iOS devices to a fire TV please? I'm thinking of getting a fire TV rather than another Apple TV for a change but need airplay.

Can you stream anything from a iOS to the fire TV?
thanks

I did not even know this was coming out, just came home and while I was browsing the forum and saw this my wife also mentioned it, just ordered two of them things!!
