It's a great deal if you buy tons of stuff from Amazon and use their video service. Just make sure you do the math first.

I had prime but canceled recently when I did the math and realized I don't order enough to justify the $100/year and I rarely need stuff shipped that quickly. If I do, I just buy it from a local retailer, and often times, for less, especially when you factor in prime.

"pretty much worthless" to you. You are *paying* for services, including but not limited to, free 2-day shipping and the Amazon Prime video library. Now, you can argue that it is not "free" 2-day shipping since you are paying a fee to have obtain that benefit, and I can buy that argument. However, for those of us that shop on Amazon often, for me at least 3 orders per week, Prime membership is about the best $99 I can spend per year.

While I have been a Prime subscriber for many years and will continue my membership for years to come, I find the fact that they are not offering the $20 discount for renewals a bit offensive. I just checked and I have placed 113 orders to date in 2016, on top of 135 in 2015. The $99 Prime cost is super-minimal to me. But at the same time, I would have appreciated that 1 day sale so that I could opt to early renew for 2017 (I believe my renewal is in February).

Agreed. As a private company they can do as they wish, but rewarding loyal customers is a big way to keep them loyal.

BTW, I did 297 in 2015 and 353 so far in 2016, so the free 2-day (or next day) shipping is well worth the up-front charge. (plus the free prime video etc is an added bonus - if only it was on Apple TV)

I guess we can access Macrumors for all the black Friday sales now or are they just a subsidiary of Amazon? Another article that one can wonder if news worthy or not. - Is there an Apple tv app yet?

"Save $20 on something not accessible on AppleTV".

Spot on. Made me wonder if MR is owned by Amazon.

For those who don't know, one of the presenters was fired from the previous show after physically assaulting one of the producers. His tv persona is based on making racist and offensive comments.

I'm all for a bit of entertainment, but what Amazon are basically saying with this show is "As long as you make us money, you can say and do whatever you want in public."

As long as he's not breaking any laws, and as long as he pays the fines and serves the time (if any) for when he does break the laws, I don't care how he acts in public. It's pretty much the same standard I hold most entertainers and athletes to. We're of course free to judge him for his behavior as well, in totality of the circumstances.

It's not like he's running for president. He also spoke out against Brexit quite strongly.

Top Gear was an awesome show, and the show was much larger than one man. It's telling that not only did his two co-hosts join him, but a great deal of the production crew did as well. While he may say offensive things, obviously he brings something very special to the table in terms of making the best possible automotive tv show.

He wasn't fired. They didn't renew the contracts. He still does work for the BBC.
Excuse the off topic post, but.
And that's the BBC for you. Closest thing in the UK to "A job for life."
Your "Bake a Cake" show gets canned? Never mind. Now you're an expert on Architecture… etcetera.

Say something "outrageous"? Just take a few months holiday and you're back.

Same old faces recycled all the time.

so is there a way for existing prime members to get this? should i cancel my existing prime membership and then re-buy this?

This guy obviously needs a safe space. Please someone! QUICK! Get him a teddy bear to hold!!! Welcome to the mindset of corporations bud. If something sells, they don't care if it's baby Jesus being set on fire by a isis attacker wearing a all hail Satan shirt.[/QUOTE

BACK OFF. This guy is absolutely right.

25 Euro a year? Care to tell us where that is?
My special offer (sic) was £59 for a year. The Pound/euro exchange rate has not gone that far.

Amazon.nl is basically books and Kindle only, so cannot be compared with the larger comprehensive Amazon stores in Europe that sell you anything and everything.

Maybe worthless to you, but I like it. I get free TWO day delivery including on Sunday. I've used the same day delivery twice. I am in complete control of what I purchase. I find it a heck of a good product for me.
Same here, the recent add of 20% off newer games is nice also.

Why are you (plural) so vocal about what people should NOT watch.
Why the constant campaigning against what other people enjoy?
You are not the moral police.

Does anyone know if they still do the £5.99 video only? I can only see the option to sign up for the annual price.

I did find a reference to it here, but this doesn't make it clear.

"Prime includes Video, Free Delivery & Music (£79/year). You can change to Prime Video only (£5.99/month) at the end of signup."

What exactly does "at the end of signup" mean.

Would be good to know if someone has done this very recently.

Shipping. Free TV Shows. Movies. Music. Backup. etc.

It's not just shipping.
True, but not everyone is interested in all these things. I'd like a lower-cost option just for the shipping.

I had prime for years but let it expire when they raised the price to $99. Also some of their new practices just don't sit well with me. Many of their offers are now only available to Prime customers, or they get earlier access. It's becoming more and more like a discount club. They also seem to intentionally slow down delivery for non-Prime customers by holding the merchandise for a few days before actually shipping it, rather than using faster premium shipping services for the Prime customers.

I have now been without Prime for quite a while and discovered that between other stores and 3rd party sellers on Amazon (which often have faster free shipping) I can really live without it.

No thanks, Amazon prime is pretty much worthless, you're basically *paying* for an incentive to buy more from Amazon.

That sounds about right... but if you're going to shop anyways why don't you buy from Amazon if it's cheaper or more convenient? Granted a lot of shops especially the bigger stores now price match Amazon's prices, so there is less incentive to shop there, but overall combination of streaming video and music with convenient "free" shipping seems like a good deal to me. At least I do shop enough on Amazon to warrant the last ten years of Prime membership.

For me mostly, it's do I spend 30 minutes (sometimes even an hour) in traffic to pick up some random stuff or do I wait the extra day or two for someone else to drop it off in front of my house so I don't have to make this trip?

They do that with Prime customers as well. The '2 Day' shipping doesn't actually mean that you'll receive it within 2 days of ordering. It just means that it will only take 2 days once they actually get around to shipping it.

That has not been my experience. Everything I order through Prime is always on my doorstep in the two day window from the day I ordered.

We got Prime years ago not because of TV, games or music but because of the 2 day delivery. We live about 12 miles north of the biggest city in our state but it turns extremely rural quickly. If you have to drive into town it's a minimum of a 25 minute drive one way, and since their are few stores on the north side of town it's usually closer to 40 minutes. I can just click and order and it will be delivered 2 days later. Works really well for items that I need on a fairly repeatable schedule, like dog food that I can predict when I need more. Price is about the same from either Amazon or a store and the time I save is worth it, to me.

Interesting! I have zero interest in watching two dinosaurs and a thug act like twenty year olds, though the other perks are quite enticing at that price.

Doesn't work in the UK for everything. Amazon keeps a depot in the Channel Islands and often ships from Europe to the UK for IT items although you only find out about that after your order has been confirmed. Even with Prime it can take a few days to arrive. With Prime Now, however, you can get a delivery within one hour from a more limited selection of items depending upon where you live in the UK.

Not in my experience. When I had Prime, they almost always shipped either on the same day or the next (depending on the time I ordered). Without Prime, they usually wait 3-5 days before shipping the item, but then the shipping itself is just as fast as the one they use for Prime.
