That sounds about right... but if you're going to shop anyways why don't you buy from Amazon if it's cheaper or more convenient? Granted a lot of shops especially the bigger stores now price match Amazon's prices, so there is less incentive to shop there, but overall combination of streaming video and music with convenient "free" shipping seems like a good deal to me. At least I do shop enough on Amazon to warrant the last ten years of Prime membership.

For me mostly, it's do I spend 30 minutes (sometimes even an hour) in traffic to pick up some random stuff or do I wait the extra day or two for someone else to drop it off in front of my house so I don't have to make this trip?

Exactly. My time is also valuable.

Doesn't work in the UK for everything. Amazon keeps a depot in the Channel Islands and often ships from Europe to the UK for IT items although you only find out about that after your order has been confirmed. Even with Prime it can take a few days to arrive. With Prime Now, however, you can get a delivery within one hour from a more limited selection of items depending upon where you live in the UK.
That makes sense. I should have mentioned I am in the US.

I think I'll send Amazon a big FU this is the exact reason why I cancelled Directv...charge me the full rate then when you are trying to acquire new customers at a discount. You may have forgotten about me, but trust me I still know what I pay.

Isn't this the model pretty much any service uses? Discount in the first month/year and then full price - what's different about amazon?

Sort of this. I have the same problem with satellite cable, the provider I have, be it Dish or DirecTV, will have a intro package with lower prices and added premium channels, but it's not available to current customers. I imagine regular cable companies are the same, although I don't know since they aren't an option for me. Cell phone providers used to be the same, but with more competition they seem to actually try to keep current customers.

I am always astounded when I leave a service that treats customers this way and then they call you after you've cancelled asking why did you leave and what it would take to keep you as a customer. I usually say " if you had treated me with 1/2 the offers you are giving a new subscriber I probably would have grumbled a bit but stayed".....

so is there a way for existing prime members to get this? should i cancel my existing prime membership and then re-buy this?
If 20 bucks is that important to you, I guess you could. Or you could just sign up using a diff email.
[doublepost=1479404125][/doublepost]I wonder if the discounted rate is giftable?
Would make a good holiday gift.

Will The Grand Tour not just be on youtube a few hours after release?

Or is there a way Amazon can block this?

No thanks, Amazon prime is pretty much worthless, you're basically *paying* for an incentive to buy more from Amazon.

Prime is outstanding value for me, cos I bought loads of stuff from Amazon before Prime anyway. It actually saves me quite a bit of money, just on the delivery, and the other stuff is a nice bonus.

It saves me a lot of money on gas alone! :)

I let my Prime membership expire in September because I won't pay $99 for a renewal...I wonder if I'll qualify for this deal? (Or is it for absolute first-time customers only?)
Same here. Let mine lapse last month because I’ve never paid full price (got the Emmy deal last September, then had it extended a month when a shipment was late). Will see tomorrow.

I’ll say, just placing 2 orders in the past month with the non-Prime free shipping has been pretty ugly. 10-14 days for things to arrive, rather than the usual 0-2 days with Prime. It definitely spoils you, but I can’t justify spending $100 just for instant consumerist gratification that I simply don’t need if I plan ahead a little. Even at just $20 off, it’s still frivolous but easier to swallow.

For those who don't know, one of the presenters was fired from the previous show after physically assaulting one of the producers. His tv persona is based on making racist and offensive comments.

I'm all for a bit of entertainment, but what Amazon are basically saying with this show is "As long as you make us money, you can say and do whatever you want in public."
Oh stop with the social justice warrior stuff. I watch shows for entertainment, not to become friends and judge the personal lives of the cast.

Get a new hobby

True though. Interesting that Sky avoided Clarkson when they had the opportunity to sign him up.
I believe they had a non-compete that prevented them going to a rival UK broadcaster to make a car based show. Also I don't think Sky's pockets are quite as deep as Amazon's...

Oooh look we got a big spender over here!

Is Amazon Prime an incentive? Obviously yes! And as with many others, Prime is incredibly worth it to me. Their prices are as good or better than any other place. If I need anything, I'll often turn to Amazon first because it's so quick, easy and good value.

Add in the free two day shipping, and I'd have to be nuts to not want it. I save hundreds of dollars a year in shipping, especially around Christmas. Most items arrive in two days, and now I even get some stuff the same day.

(Just yesterday I ordered an Arduino computer kit around 10am in the morning, along with a color touchscreen module and a tiny 9V wire snap I needed for something else. They were in my hands by 6pm by courier. And I live in the boondocks. This was my first same-day delivery attempt and I'm thrilled.)

The free videos of shows like The Man in the High Castle, and all the modern Doctor Who seasons, are more icing on the cake.

Actually it clearly states on the web site which items are available for PRIME shipping. My experience with Prime has always been next day on my doorstep. I am also a ROKU user as opposed to Apple TV and the Amazon app is a very useful add on that I use on a regular basis. One of the best value services around if you order from Amazon and Stream movies, TV or Music.

I have had Prime since it started. I have had stuff sent from Jersey (add 2 days min), France and somewhere in Europe hidden under Amazon's Luxembourg business address. Those added a few days to the one day delivery window. It all depends upon what Amazon's fulfilment centres are stocking when you order. Sometimes you got a clue when Amazon used to say "Fulfilled by Indigofish", which is (was?) Amazon's subsidiary in Jersey. I think now everything is just Amazon Logistics so it is hard to tell until you get a despatch notice.

Just noticed it is also €49 in Amazon Germany. So our offer is closer to €70. Rip-off Britain is back and better than ever before. Gee, thanks Jeff.

And he just got caught lying about a Spanish airport staff... they were late and he complained the staff was from Argentina and said racist things to him. He might be brilliant but a twisted, racist and narrow minded little man :(
They had a brilliant show but nah, I can't make myself to watch and help absolute jerks like this :(
You have your own opinion so I'm not looking for a fight with someone with a different viewpoint.

He's really not brilliant. Look up the definition, it really doesn't relate to Clarkson. There are some brilliant people in the world, hosting a tv show doesn't make you a brilliant person.

He wasn't fired, his contract was not renewed. The press might not like to admit that as it doesn't sound as juicy - but there is a difference.

Not much of a difference though really, either way he didn't have a job doing what he loved doing. If he had been fired he would have got more money, not having your contract renewed just means its over and goodbye.

I like the show, but the guy is a total idiot let's face it. He is stuck in the past and constantly puts his foot in it, he thinks it's fine to say what he likes and it actually isn't, not when you make a tv show that kids love to watch.

The press are happy with him not having his contract renewed, the bottom line is he got it wrong one time too many. He was one of the highest paid TV personalities and thought he was untouchable because the programme made so much for the BBC when it was sold around the world. Now he knows how much he was worth to them - not enough to make them want to keep him for further series.
