This is great news! Now really all that's left for the Apple TV app is for Netflix to work. Then all the major streaming services will be available.

Ummm.... Netflix has worked fine for years on Apple TV. Sounds like you have a hardware/user problem.

So I have Prime, what's GOOD on the App? I have never used it because when I've browsed it it seemed like they had the same movies Netflix and such offer.

Just browse their original/Amazon produced movies section. So many of last year's and this year's greatest movies (ie. Manchester By the Sea and The Big Sick)

It means I can now use Apple TV for pretty much everything, with the only notable exceptions being BT Sport (which would be useless for me anyway if it was tied to having BT Internet service, like the iOS app is), and Channel 4. Between Amazon, NowTV, Netflix, BBC, ITV and Channel 5 (and iTunes), 99% of what I watch is now covered. Amazon was the big missing piece in the jigsaw.

The BT sport iOS app isn’t tied to having BT internet service. I don’t have BT internet just a BT sport subscription and the iOS app works fine for me.

I emailed Amazon support and they said they are aware that 5.1 audio isn't working and are working on a fix.

They just "fixed" it. Unfortunately, the fix was to remove all the 5.1 badges. Was there this morning, got home this afternoon, fired it up, and no more 5.1 badges! That was an easy fix.

This will be interesting to test. Currently we are watching “The Americans”, and since we’re on satellite internet I’ve been downloading it to my iPad ahead of time and then playing/mirror to the ATV via the iPads Prime Video app. It’ll be interesting to see what the buffering time looks like.

Oh my god. I thought you were kidding. But, YEP, they just removed "5.1" from all the content descriptions! My guess though is that they're just covering their asses until they fix their huge bungle.

So a couple of observations (don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to have this):

- The toggle for your watchlist doesn't have an indicator on the movie tile (or description header), the only cue is in the lower right where the "Hold to ..." changes from Add to Remove (and back again). I'd like to see a better UI indicator when you're scrolling through content as to what's in your watch list.

- It doesn't appear that the app is part of the deep/global search (via Siri), I tried it with a few titles, and I got hits on Hulu, iTunes, etc., but nothing on Amazon.

My second point above is fortunately not correct! Later this evening when I tried it again it worked as expected (found a series and a movie, was the primary option and/or an option in the ‘open in’ list). Plus I got my TV link prompt (which I didn’t on initial install).

Excellent.

I just checked our 3rd gen, and it's not showing up, assuming this is correct, that's a pretty big deal, 3rd gens are still pretty capable for straight up media streaming, and super cheap.

All good on my ATV 3. And the handful of purchases I've made are showing up.

Aside from the 5.1 audio problems they are having, they also presently seem not to be streaming 4K. I'm getting upscaled 1080p.

You have to wonder if they are getting slammed for bandwidth with all the Apple TV users.

wow yhey actually removed the 5.1 tags, oh well back to costumer service to tell them their bluff has been called, and that the issue is not considered fixed.
Ok i contacted costumer service and here was their reply regarding the tags "Please be assured, the tags are being removed temporarily. The issue will be fixed as soon as possible" so it is a trick to mask the problem with th tvos app,

People complained up a storm that this app didn't come along sooner. Now within 24 hours of having it they'll realize there's still nothing good to watch.
Positive news turned in something bad just because Apple' is not the source. Speak for yourself. And go back "expertising" on everything else, please

I have no issue with the content avalability but rather the lack of surround sound, and today the rather disshones (imo) de tagging of 5.1 conent to mask the sound bug) oh well as long as they get it fixed before the s02E01 of The grand tour gose live I'll stop moaning

My reply is specifically pointed to that user's comment (and his generally compliant and paternalistic and contemptuous attitude)
By the way, anyone interested in this App on Apple TV is well aware of his content availability and therefore can choose to get benefits or not. But "choice" seems to be a problem for some in here

Aha, i missed that, sorry my brain is not at its best today.

I have two different friends - with Rokus - who wanted to migrate to ATV (they use other Apple products), but _both_, funny enough, were holdouts due to the lack of Amazon PV :D I'll have to send them a message today!

Sent one of them a message, they sent me back a quick response ... "4K model ordered"

:D

(I had mentioned that if they decided to buy, just go ahead and score a 4K model since they're also shopping 4K TVs)

True... but it kinda loses the effect if the word "Amazon" isn't there. :p

I think it's weird that the AppleTV icon doesn't actually say Amazon. Only "Prime Video" on the icon and the text below. There's plenty of room, however.

Even the tiny iPhone icon says Amazon.

Agreed that's weird. Sounds like the first step in a branding update, like when Apple dropped the word "Apple" next to the logo on most products. I believe that was in the 90's and it seemed strange for a while.

Amazon's Prime Video device support page claims the Apple TV version supports 5.1 audio. If it doesn't people need to call into Amazon and complain (call or chat are the only options).

I think it's a problem Amazon is experiencing across all streaming devices. I'm sure they know this is a big deal and are working on it.

The app is not working well for me. It takes forever to load, where all the other ATV apps load almost instantly. And if it does eventually get going, the resolution drifts in and out of anything resembling HD, let alone 4K. I have none of those problems on the Amazon app on my LG tv or any of the other apps on my Apple TV.
