Good news.
It means more use for my ATV, as I’ve been using my (slow and frustrating) TV app for Amazon.
It’s an important development for us in the UK, where the overall functions/flexibility of the ATV are far less than the US.
This never stop surprizing me..UK and US is so close, share common language, history, heritage. And yet British providers tend to not see potential of Apple TV. I suppose there has to be some sort of Murdoch conspiracy and Sky influence.

I love that Prime Video is on the Atv3. With plexconnect set up all my media is available in one spot. I almost splurged on a new ATV...no need to now.

It's not so much that, more that UK TV is quite different to the US, from the free/pay balance, to the kind of hardware we use.
The Sky thing is a behemoth of an issue - as the monopoly payTV provider, with an extraordinary infrastructure and integrated services (internet/phone/mobile, etc) they have zero motivation to give Apple a cut of their profits. But they do sort of embrace Apple TV, via the NowTV app which is their streaming off-shoot for non-Sky-subscribers.

But for most of the UK, it is the terrestrial freeview channels that make up most TV viewing, and central to that is usually a PVR decoder box. TV aerial TV plus HDD recording. It features a core integrated TV planner view, with one-touch series record etc onto the built-in HDD.
If Apple TV can somehow tap into Freeview terrestrial TV, with a similar functional planner and recording potential, they'd really be on to a winner in the UK. But they won't, as Apple TV is all about streaming through the internet, not from a roof-mounted aerial. There are a few apps, such as BBC iPlayer, that offer live viewing, which is fine, but that still consumes internet bandwidth.

So the whole hardware system is relatively novel for many in the UK, where in the US, cable/satellite has been ubiquitous.

EDIT - reading that back, I don't think I've explained that at al well. Never mind. Bottom-line: US and UK very different TV experiences. Different solutions needed.

Is 5.1 sound working for anyone? Tried "The Man in the High Castle" (which is listed as 4K/5.1 sound) and it played as stereo. Switched over to Netflix to make sure nothing got broken with the AppleTV iOS 11.2 update which I did just before installing the Amazon Prime app, and 5.1 sound was working just fine. Went back to Amazon Prime -- still no 5.1.

Any info on the subject appreciated, thanks!

"Amazon notes that the tvOS app requires the "Apple TV 3rd generation or later" —but installation may necessitate a reboot of the device, or a reboot followed by a user signing out of iTunes, then back in." - from an AI article

It came up on my ATV 3rd gen., but, it hasn't been plugged in for a while.

ATV 4th gen. I searched for it and it showed up. But, it is called "Prime Video", so maybe try typing "Prime" first instead of Amazon.

There are two separate versions of the Prime Video app in the German App Store. The one that is actually meant for German audience (#5 in charts) isn't updated. So no, Prime Video hasn't rolled out everywhere.

Sorry, not familiar with Prime Video. Just wondering about whether there are differences in content between here, Canada, and US as there is with Netflix? Thanks.

I emailed Amazon support and they said they are aware that 5.1 audio isn't working and are working on a fix.

It's been six months since Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that Amazon Prime Video would be coming to Apple TV later this year, and now that app is officially beginning to roll out to tvOS devices in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and several other regions across Europe.

Similar to other versions of Amazon Prime Video, the Apple TV app allows Prime subscribers to sign into their accounts and watch Amazon Prime exclusive TV series, as well as browse a collection of movies. Users can add shows and movies to a watchlist, sync their watchlist across devices, and use Apple TV's Siri Remote to search for Amazon content from inside the app.

The updated Amazon Prime Video iOS app now supports Universal Search, allowing users to look up Prime videos using the native search function on their devices. Version 5.0 of the iOS app also supports iPhone X displays. While the tvOS app is a separate component of the installation, Amazon Prime Video is said to be available on pre-app store third-generation Apple TVs as well as fourth-gen and 4K Apple TVs, according to the release notes. (We're waiting for clarification on generational support.)

Prior to its official launch, there were numerous release date rumors surrounding the Amazon Prime Video tvOS app. The first pointed to its launch on the day of the iPhone X keynote event, and then a separate report from Recode countered that rumor with sources that claimed the app would not be ready at that time. Later in September, the next rumor predicted its launch alongside Thursday Night Football, and when that date came and went the most recent rumor -- sourced from a Redditor claiming to work for Amazon -- predicted an October 26 debut.

Yesterday, a redditor opened up the App Store and saw an Amazon Prime Video story as the top feature in the "Today" section, after he had manually turned his device's clock forward by a day. He linked the section on reddit, which other users were able to see temporarily before the content was pulled by Apple. The "Today" App Store description in question specifically referenced Amazon Prime Video for Apple TV, which was finally launched today.

Amazon Prime Video was one of the last remaining streaming service holdouts to release a tvOS app, so users will now be able to rely on the 4th and 5th generation Apple TV devices a little more without having to use a PlayStation 4, Fire TV, or Roku to jump to Amazon's video catalog. In terms of other Apple products with Amazon Prime Video apps, users can also watch Prime shows on iPhone and iPad with the company's iOS app [Direct Link], which also supports downloading select videos to view offline.

Tim Hardwick contributed to this article.

Update: MacRumors has been able to confirm that Amazon Prime Video also supports Apple's TV app.

[doublepost=1512589521][/doublepost]Great! Now my AppleTV only has about a dozen fewer channels than I've got on my Roku. Way to go, Apple.

not seeing it in UK
Yep it is out here in UK , Prime Video that is: not the TV app. It’s a bit buggy though, I’ve had to force quit the app at least 4 times since downloading this afternoon. The app appears less polished than say netflix, but still glad it’s here. Finally.

I can confirm that Amazon Prime App is available on Apple TV in Poland.

How so? That’s the A-to-Z part of the logo

True... but it kinda loses the effect if the word "Amazon" isn't there. :p

I think it's weird that the AppleTV icon doesn't actually say Amazon. Only "Prime Video" on the icon and the text below. There's plenty of room, however.

Even the tiny iPhone icon says Amazon.

Same here in the UK, two different apps, one on version 4.8.2, updated a month ago and then one updated today version 5. Very confusing anyone know why there are two? Version 5 one is advertised on the App Store but the other one is on the link from Amazon help website (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazon-Video-on-iPhone-iPad-and-iPod-Touch/b?ie=UTF8&node=9698706031)
