Downloads doesn't mean people are using it like crazy.

True.

If you had the app installed on your iPhone or iPad, it automatically installed on your Apple TV for most users. That alone greatly inflates those download numbers.

Right, it means that a lot of people had it on their iPhone or iPad. And the subset of those who also have an Apple TV would certainly want it there as well.

Just have to subtract off the unknown number of people who had it on their iPhone/iPad but stopped using it.

I had the same error on Saturday night when I sat down for movie night with my kids. Very frustrating.

I had the same issue 2 days ago and called customer service. I was told it was a known issue and would be fixed within 48 hours. Haven’t got a chance to try it today, but hopefully it’s fixed when I do.

Personally, i've never followed the masses - I didn't and never will download the Amazon App. I'm truly grateful for awesome apps like RED BULL sports TV and WSL World Surf League. I feel with those along with iTunes, Vimeo, YouTube, Netflix and MUBI i've got the best :) To me, that's what Apple and ATV do best.

The thought of watching Jeremy Clarkson and his old geeky friends on Amazon driving in oil guzzling crap acting like sad cases makes me what to vomit.

Lol. Never followed the masses except for Apple products, YouTube, Netflix, etc...

Yeah, the app sucks, the UI is poor, and the sound is terrible, but at least I can now make reasonable use of part of my Prime membership, while prior to the app the best that was available was the gawd-awful experience of watching through a web browser.

The Tivo app for Amazon Prime is not too bad.....

Well, yeah, 2 days puts it to Monday, where people aren't using it as much as over the weekend. I bet they got slammed with new users wanting to binge over the weekend. We had the same issue.

Just checked and it’s working for me now.

Doesn't surprise me. Amazon essentially let the pool of Apple TV customers build to such a large size. I downloaded it on both of my boxes and know many people who did the same. Amazon Prime Video is a pretty good service considering I have it because I mostly care about Prime shipping.
I use the Amazon store somewhat infrequently, so the shipping perk is not worth $99/year to me. But combine this with a good streaming service and it's a bargain. So, I joined Prime, this past week. But it is true, the app has a terrible UI. Fortunately it does support the TV function, unlike Netflix.

Generally the UIs on a lot of TV apps have been going downhill. I know a lot of them are trying to come up with creative ways to deal with the inevitable clutter, but they all do it in a different way; which means not only does each app have a learning curve, actions can have inconsistent results, app to app. Maybe we are in an experimentation phase and it will all settle down. The TV function does help; if Netflix supported it, I would be happy.
In a sort of "midlife crisis" type scenario, I decided to try out AP. I was wondering if I'd use the free, 2-day shipping or the video streaming more. I think they're currently about even, but the latter will probably win out. I did buy some things with AP and 2-day shipping being a factor that pushed me, but I have scoped out some interesting flicks... That Sugar Movie, Band Of Brothers, The Pacific, The Witch, just to name a few.

Netflix sounds like it'd be right up my alley, but I currently spend a lot of time streaming free stuff... YouTube, and whatever's free on Comedy Central, CBS, Fox, NBC. It's an interesting tradeoff, as AP costs money, but the service and features are better (minimal to no ads), whereas the latter has windows of opportunity of when you can view them (they get locked up behind subscription models after a period of time), and of course, dealing with more ads.

I’ve looked at Amazon Prime tv for a select show or two. But what stops me from actually diving in and putting it to good use (as I do with Netflix) is the way they mix and interleave content that’s included and content you have to pay more for.
So far, this hasn't bothered me, although it's not saying much yet as I haven't done THAT MUCH with it. AFAIK, the stuff that's available would've costed you money anyways, like streaming Game Of Thrones which was an HBO thing. I have been a bit disappointed to find some things that are "behind another pay wall" despite being an Amazon Prime member, but at least the AP content has been working out thus far.

I was super excited about this app, but with all the time they had to develop something killer, it’s a disappointment on multiple levels:
- no “X-ray” feature like on iPhone app
- cluttered, congested design
- slow, stuff navigation via remote, without typical tvOS sounds or animations
- apparently no 5.1 sound yet
- missing a vital “continue watching” section
I’d love to say I expect more from Amazon, but I can’t. So “I hope for more from Amazon” will have to do.

Funny to see the Apple fanboys try to justify what is wrong with this service. I'm a big fan of apple, but lets face it they don't do subscription services well, and if they do it takes them years to introduce..a la Apple Music. I'm content to have a basically free Prime video service(since I purchase prime for delivery) at my finger tips without having to pay for additional services.

The real amazing part is they added Amazon Prime to AppleTV3 boxes. I thought surely there would be no new features for the AppleTV3, but here we are. If it were somehow possible to add Infuse to the AppleTV3, that device would be worth it's weight in gold.
“That device” should have had an App Store since day one.

Are we really not surprised? I mean, it was the first thing I did the day it was released after I got home from work.

They don't do this on Apple devices though, because they don't want to share the revenue with Apple. So it only shows the content included with Prime, or content you've already purchased.

The service works well for me. No buffering issues. The video quality is pretty good. The UI is much better than the DirecTV Now app, but not as flushed out as the Netflix App. I appreciate the App, although it is simply another option in my limited "viewing" time.

I didn’t think we would be able to use this on satellite internet, but have been pleasantly surprised. The only other app we use is Plex.

The app saves me from downloading the media first then mirroring from an iPad, and it’s been performing great - no long buffer time at the front, which was my main concern. And the first row on the app show the most current series, clicking on that positions to the correct episode. A few too many clicks but it does what I need to do. The biggest problem is looking at everything available - we still need to watch our usage because of our data cap.

Agree with the sentiment— I’m just so happy to have prime video, I currently don’t care about the UI...
[doublepost=1513652608][/doublepost]You’re right, amazon is far superior to Directv Now. The biggest hurdle with DTV is the guide. At least amazon is similar to Netflix; still crap, but directv is a bigger pile of it.
