I was excited for about 30 seconds. That is how long it took to realize it would not let me download videos like I can on my iPhone.

Was hoping to avoid that (and then mirroring to AppleTV), but it looks like I still have to do that.

Really surprised Amazon would come out and Brag about that, since the History behind it is commonly known.

Whoever made the call on that inside Amazon is REALLY insecure in their job !

In sweden the content they have available is so bad that i dont want see anything of it.. they will never compete here

I was waiting for this and other things for a while but gave up waiting and replaced my Apple TVs with Windows PCs instead. This way I can play absolutely everything through the mainstream interfaces they offer, not at the mercy of all this nonsense. As much as I hate Windows, it works fine for media, it runs even on literal garbage hardware I have lying around, and everyone knows exactly how to use it.

The real amazing part is they added Amazon Prime to AppleTV3 boxes. I thought surely there would be no new features for the AppleTV3, but here we are.

All the more amazing since we discovered at the last iPhone launch that Apple livestreams no longer work on the ATV3. You would think Apple had some control over that, too.

Is anyone having lip sync issues on the Apple TV 4k? All other apps work fine with the exception of Amazon Prime Video.

Well, this may just make me finally upgrade my 2010 AppleTV. That, and 1080p (or 4K) and my growing impatience with the random reboots.

Obviously they don't disclose actual download numbers, as they would reveal how poorly the TV App Store is doing.

What makes this even worse is that app makers actually have to go OUT OF THEIR WAY to develop these bad interfaces. The Apple TV SDK provides a smooth, easy to use browsing interface for content right out of the box, but they still insist on rolling their own slower and inferior interface.
I think every one of them is trying to use their app as a big showcase/marketing tool. UI and usability are a secondary priority, unfortunately. The only bright spot: the more of them plug into that meta "TV" app and expose their programming to universal search, the more of them the user can just make an end-run around each app...

What app on Apple TV do you have that lets you "download" a video, as opposed to streaming it?

Got on our unit and, so far, very happy with it. I had just purchased a Roku unit for our main TV so we could get Amazon on it (have several other Roku units), so that was probably the impetus for them to release it....

Wow. Happy you are getting it. I also have an ATV 4. It seems as if it depends on whether it’s a movie or original series. I was trying to watch electric dreams and it was in plain stereo as was The Marvelous Ms. Maisel and the Man in the High Castle. Then I checked a few movies. The Magnificent Seven, The Exception, Star Trek Beyond are all in 5.1 So it seems as if the Amazon original series are being broadcast in Stereo and the movies in 5.1. Weird. The page linked below say 5.1comimg soon for Apple TV.

Lots of articles on the web about it back in early December. Amazon customer service says they are aware of the problem.

Right now I am bingeing on the old 24 series and it is coming thru with 5.1 on my ATV 4. I was surprised when I first started hearing sound being thrown to my rear speakers while watching that old of a series.
