Are people really getting upset at a service / provider or vendor if they don't support Apple Pay?

Are we really such 'consumers' that it's a big deal?

I agree Apple Pay is convenient, but really... 1st world problems.

I think you'll find people here aren't really representative of the general public. Or at least that's my hope.

While I haven't gone so far as to boycott any businesses, I will say that once you've been hit with identity theft (one or more times), a payment method that protects your information becomes more and more important.

Signed,

Twice a victim, once for thousands and once that almost got me arrested, and currently waiting for the second replacement card this year due to Home Depot breach.

That move was rather quickly. Now.. awaiting for my Credit Union to support Apple Pay. Any users who have success adding their Credit Union card to Apple Pay?

iMore put out an article yesterday about all of the additional banks that Visa would be adding in the next few weeks. Tons of credit unions were listed there.

I'm a little confused why none of the other major news outlets picked up on this.

I was pretty ticked off because:

  1. Supposedly all Chase Visa cards worked with Apple Pay. Instead, it turned out that all Chase Visa cards worked EXCEPT the Chase Amazon Visa Rewards card.
  2. The impression was that Amazon was holding out for some political Amazon vs. Apple nonsense.
  3. The Chase Amazon card is what I use for 90%+ of my purchases.

Yes, I get that Apple Pay is new. Yes, I get that I could still use my physical credit card. None of those are the point. The concern was that if this was going to be an Amazon vs. Apple issue, then the consumer loses. I feel that I should be able to use my credit cards in the way that I want to use them. If this was an Amazon/Apple fight, then Amazon would be dictating how I can use my card, which, personally, I don't like.

Glad to see that this got worked out so quickly. I suspect the public outpouring and attention is what got this resolved.

BTW - I got to use Apple Pay the other day, and it works great. Super easy. Very smart. This will be a winner.

I posted something in another thread somewhere a few days ago about this list. My credit union is on it - thank God. Can't happen soon enough for me. Now to get NFC readers everywhere I shop.

Agreed. Chase replaced my VISA card after both the Target breach and the Home Depot breach. Did not cost me a penny, but it is a hassle going through all the sites you have your card on file and updating to the new card each time.

So given two, similar retail options, say Home Depot and Lowes for example, if one accepts Apple Pay and the other does not, I'm using the one with Apple Pay.

Just added my Chase Amazon VISA to Apple Pay with no problem.

Great, now if PNC could get in line my life would be complete.

Yes! iTunes keeps rejecting my debit card (a bug that me, others, and Apple can't seem to fix) despite the fact that I bought a $1300 iMac with the same credentials. I was hoping Apple Pay would circumvent that, but PNC needs to get on board! On their Website it sounds like they want to launch it soon.

Happily added my card today!
That's what happens when people complain about things. Companies move MUCH quicker when we use that feed back, surveys, etc. Usually not this fast, but hey I'm sure it was setup to work. They just "choose" not to.

Add me to the list of people that have had multiple card replacements due to fraud. I've been on the fence about getting an iPhone 6, but if this this NFC method (tokenization) takes off well enough, I'll upgrade happily.

With these fraud incidents, it's become clear to me that AMEX is the best company to deal with as a consumer, so I'm glad they seem to be at the forefront of Apple Pay.

This is a brilliant way that Apple makes banks to sign up to Apple Pay. Now, they need to figure out a way to do the same thing for tv that'll be great.

Even though I don't own an iPhone 6 I emailed my CU about Apple Pay earlier this week out of curiosity. Their reply was
"We are evaluating multiple payment solutions at this time but have not approved any particular one as of yet."
My take on the reply was it isn't going to happen any time soon and may never happen. They aren't the most forward thinking organization and just hope they can get the new chip and pin cards out before our mag strip cards become obsolete.

The interest rate of so high on the Barclay Card (over 20%!) that I will never use it after I finish paying off my MacBook (with 0% interest) in the next couple of months. Maybe the interest rate will go down after I pay off the interest free balance, but if not it will gather dust in a drawer or I will cancel it.

I haven't used since my MacBook pro has been oasis off either. Sits in my safe with other paid off cards.

Let's count the days the hard heads at Walmart and Bestbuy come to reality that they made a mistake! Give the people what they want and side with security!

Yes it is a big deal coming from a person that has had his card number stolen 4 times in 3 years! ( Citi and chase once) I don't plan on getting my next phone till next year but this should keep the thieves at bay! According to the detective, the Banks are doing nothing and billions of dollars that are lost are being paid by you! So if the finger sprint sensor and the software can help put a dent in this problem, then I applaud the effort!

Really? Where did Chase ever state all cards were eligible?

These cards were eligible when Apple Pay was announced.
