It makes me wonder if Amazon had it all ready to go on day one but wanted to hold off implementation to see if there was an outcry. It's understandable. They're more or less being forced by customer demand to support a competitor's system. Probably not what they wanted to do.

What you suggest makes no sense. Amazon did already confirm they were going to support Apple Pay: if they were interested in testing the customers' reactions they would have denied working on supporting Apple Pay in the first place instead of basically committing themselves.

Moreover, Amazon is ultimately interested in selling as much as possible: it makes sense for them to support Apple Pay which is secure and inexpensive.

People who know me are sick of this story, but here goes. I mentioned the one time that took me for a ton of money (which I did eventually get back). Never found out exactly how it happened, but it is assumed it was a skimmer on a card machine.

The second one was a lot more complicated. Somehow, someone got enough of my information to impersonate me. They changed my address for my driver's license and had it registered in another city, and started diverting some of my mail to this new address. Then they used my identity to open up a phony business, promising to help people clean up their credit scores. People being stupid, they fell for it by the thousands. Because mail fraud was involved, the US Postal Inspectors got involved, as well as the Secret Service.

Meanwhile, I'm cruising around none the wiser, since there were no fraudulent charges on my cards - the person who devised this was smart enough to not try and use my credit cards. That's one reason it took so long for her to be caught. So, one day I'm driving to work, doing the speed limit, and I get pulled over. Turns out my plate was expired, which I didn't even realize because I never got the notice in the mail (because my address had been changed without my knowledge) and it just slipped my mind. When the officer looked up my driver's license, he saw a completely different address and photo on his computer than what was on my license, and had to make a decision to either arrest me for driving on a bad license and with expired plates, or to believe my story that I had never lived in this other city, was NOT a black woman (which he could see) and this was my legitimate license. He was cool about it and just warned me not to drive anywhere until I got it cleared up. So, I had to leave my car in a parking lot, get someone to come get me, do all kinds of police reports and affidavits as to who I was (proved with my passport, thank goodness) and get my license reinstated.

I can no longer renew license or plate online, I have to go in person, with passport. Which reminds me... I need to do that in the next couple of weeks.

Thousands of people were caught in this scam, and they are still building a case against the person and her accomplices. And by the way, turned out she also used my identity to commit tax fraud too. Unfortunately for her, I owed money for the last two years, so she didn't get anything there from me, but she did steal lots more from the IRS in other names.

So, long story short, although it is probably too late for that, I fully and completely support Apple Pay.

Sounds like the movie Identity Thief ironically. That sucks, sorry. Where do you live?

I know!! In fact, several of my friends thought it would be funny to invite me out for movie night when that came out, because it wasn't too long after we found out about the situation. Ha ha.

Anyway, that is why you will see me on every thread, praising more secure methods of payments to the heavens. Also, check your accounts on a regular basis, and do check your credit reports often as well.

Edit: just saw the location question. I'm in Tampa, and my criminal element was in Orlando.

Just like the movie, Colorado to FL lol.

That's a terrible story, but I highly doubt they were able to do all that with just a skimmer - all that would give them is your card number. It would enable them to go on a shopping spree, but completely taking over your identity? Doubt it.

I'm glad the Amazon Chase card was added. All 4 of my cards are all supported - Amazon Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America and AmEx.

Now we just need more businesses to accept Apple Pay and I'm all set. But it's sure fun to use at the vending machines at work.

I had my phone number "stolen" when I moved here. She even opened a merchant account with Discover. They kept calling ME about activating it. I called their fraud department back and finally got someone that would listen.

It took eons to convince Sprint that I was not Cheryl Green and I was not billing all this crap to my phone line.

What a horrid experience - which reminds me... I need to renew my plate too! :p

Are people really getting upset at a service / provider or vendor if they don't support Apple Pay?

Are we really such 'consumers' that it's a big deal?

I agree Apple Pay is convenient, but really... 1st world problems.

Really, hyperventilating over what Apple users get excited about? 1st world over reacting.

Seems to coincide with Amazon's Fire phone going belly up. Guess they can't afford to give up any money these days.

Even though I don't own an iPhone 6 I emailed my CU about Apple Pay earlier this week out of curiosity. Their reply was My take on the reply was it isn't going to happen any time soon and may never happen. They aren't the most forward thinking organization and just hope they can get the new chip and pin cards out before our mag strip cards become obsolete.

I also emailed my credit union their response was "It looks like it…"

Not true, all Chase Mastercard credit cards are not supported.

Chase Debit MasterCards do not work with ApplePay either.

----------

Somewhat related to this, I wonder what's going on with Chase and Mastercard.

I had a Chase Freedom Mastercard that was expiring, and the replacement card that came in was switched to a Chase Freedom Visa card.

Chase is moving as many MasterCard cards to VISA as possible.
