Seriously?

"Alexa, turn the lights on"
"Sorry, I don't see any lights called the"
Patently false. I can (and do) say it many ways and she gets it, all without having to spend thousands on Apple equipment for the same basic functionality.

In fact I can say “Alexa, turn in the goddamned lights” and she’ll do it, always good for laughs.

Yeah, upon seeing the announcement this morning I hoped to a second that Amazon might have bought Bragi - but the details that are known about the upcoming Amazon earbuds speak against it. Like that it does require a phone (=no internal storage) and the look will resemble AirPods.

I couldn't care less about Alexa (or Siri for that matter) on earbuds. And while there certainly is room for improvement with the Dash, the concept in itself is innovative enough that I'm still surprised no-one is really been following it. It can't be technically limitations alone and now imagine what companies like Apple or Amazon could do with the concept, having the cash behind it.

One word: Swimming.

And this might come as news to you if you're from the US, but unlimited data plans are still not a thing in other parts of the world and hence most people do not stream music.

Bragi Dash. Look at it.

They're substantially larger than AirPods and with less battery life.

And that is one of the big reasons I don't buy Alexa type products from Amazon. I don't want my information sold to advertisers or some other hack company looking to make a dollar off me, by mini every thing that is said etc.

Cheaper is not always better.

I have always embraced the definition of "cheaper" to be something that costs less because of lower, or poor quality. Today, it seems like most people -- no offense -- use the word cheaper as an equivalent to "less expensive" or of "lower cost", focusing only on the purchase price.

Most people would be correct.

Your point? Batteries can be charged. In return, AirPods look like crap (I really don't care about wearing a status item visible for everyone - they do look ridiculous), aren't waterproof, don't have internal storage, no touch controls ... I'd take a bigger size (you do realize WHY they're bigger, don't you?) and shorter battery life for all of those features in a heartbeat.

I agree. I love Apple products, but anything that has Siri just drops down a notch in value to me.

Isn’t Siri embedded into almost every single Apple product? So I guess your expectations must be somewhat low for anything Apple makes then.

Why stop there? Why don’t we just stop innovating altogether?
And what good is innovation when it creates more problems? If wireless earphones become standard in say the next 10 years, we will have billions of new batteries that need to be disposed off eventually. Even if they have a life of 3-4 years, we will have to keep disposing these batteries for eternity. Not to mention, the plastic footprint of these earphones is much larger also due to their charging cases.

So you're all for innovation as long as it benefits you but you're against innovation where you personally don't see a point or usage, and suddenly you start becoming concerned with all those potential problems. Got it.

Lol. I love a lot of innovations that don't benefit me in any way. Now how about telling me why my concerns are wrong?

Your concerns are not wrong. However, it must then be true that you have a similar opinion of mobile phones, laptops, tablets...and any other battery containing electronic device?

Siri has actually got worse..so much that my home pod isn't used anymore.

Worse how? It no longer responds correctly to a question/command it used to?

The concerns are still correct for all the gadgets you mentioned. However, batteries are necessary evils in those cases. Cell phones can be life savers in many situations. They make communication a million times better. Laptops enable us to take our work with us. Same for tablets for some people. I think of it this way. What happens if cellphones, laptops and tablets cease to exist? Life wont be same in this day and age. Can you say that about wireless headphones? Are they revolutionizing life in a way that is proportionate to the environmental damage they might end up doing? In my opinion the answer is no.

AirPods are the new iPod. Give them internal storage and the ability to work with Siri for playback controls offline, and they're a full on iPod replacement.

Beyond the functionality, AirPods are the 2019 status symbol as iPod's white earbuds were in the early 2000's.

I'm not surprised to see other big names coming in to compete with arguably Apple's most popular product right now.

Or Storage in the case.... would be interesting but kind of corky

Many people lived perfectly fine without cellphones, laptops, and particularly tablets, for decades. Your argument isn't sound and affected by your personal bias.

What is and is not essential and revolutionizing can oftentimes only be a assessed in retrospect. I've been around long enough to remember similar concerns/arguments towards cellphones, laptops, tablets and many other advancements, such as digital cameras.

Lol. Relax. I don't understand why you have to be so confrontational. If you think we can get rid of laptops and cellphones and life will stay unaffected, then I guess we have to agree to disagree. And given your confrontational attitude, I don't wish to have a discussion with you either.

My apologies if I came across as confrontational, this was not my attention. I only wanted to discuss your claim, which should be allowed in a discussion forum.

If you think we can get rid of laptops and cellphones and life will stay unaffected.

I did not say that.
