Casey's time on the show has come to an end. His second song was pretty good, but Crystal was only slightly better overall for the night.
Lee totally stole the show. The final, truthfully, should be Lee vs. Lee. He's that much better than everybody else. He's ready to put on his own solo TV special the way Clay Aiken and Carrie Underwood did.
This contest, without doubt at this point, is his to lose.
Lee started good, yet shy, and has improved an already great voice. Crystal may have gained ground on her second performance over her first because she can really shine without the guitar and she really did a great number with the Paul McCartney piece. She had an almost Janis Joplin intensity. Her first performance should have been better and was just OK.
This season started out really bad, but Lee and Crystal have saved it from being a disaster. The final will be fun, but it won't get the national attention of a Clay vs. Ruben final where the whole country was talking about it more than any election I can think of.
Sometimes, on a rare occasion, there is a time and place on reality TV, or what is called reality TV, where the country, or world, takes notice (Clay and Ruben, finale of first season of Survivor, Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent and Simon Cowell's response) ... but this year's AI won't be one of them. Lee is just so much better than Crystal and Casey that it's predictable as to who will win. If he doesn't win, it's pretty predictable as to who thought who was the best (Lee) through most of the season. Crystal can pull off a Kris Allen type of upset, but after this season, it will be Lee who sells the records.
Sometimes there is a singer who is good and destined for bigger things and they really break out far beyond the AI and what people expected of them (Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson come to mind), while others predictably go on to sell records, appear on TV shows, and magazine covers (Clay and Adam come to mind).
