I like James (probably a finalist and rooting for him because he's hometown for me, too), Casey, Jacob (my favorite if I had to vote for Las Vegas odds), and Pia. I think Pia's the only girl who has a realistic shot at the top 3.

Adam Lambert was great tonight. I thought he was kind of the lone high singer of the entire IDOL franchise, but this year has a few who can hit the high notes and though I didn't like too much high singing, it seems to have found a home this season. Pia, Jacob, and James can hit the highest of notes.

It was great to see Adam, and the song was decent too. Jacob is good, but he was off this week. James has nailed it every single time.

I'm for James all the way. I think he's awesome and doesn't bore me the way the others do. I'm a rocker though, so of course I would feel that way. I don't have a favorite girl this time.

What's up with Casey?

Was great to see Adam last night. However, like the show all along so far, I was even disappointed in HIS song choice, but I love him no matter what. I was texting my daughter during that performance. She wasn't watching but changed the channel just to watch him. She said, "He can be gay with me any day!" I was amused. :p

So I decided to give Idol anther chance tonight and god is it awful. The Paul dude butchered it and they said it was great. Then the Asian girl sings so much better and they didn't like it. Either the show is rigged and favorites are chosen long before the competition starts or the judges are just stupid.

I think there's a ton of editing and many attempts at a song. When they go back at the end of the show and recoup which singers are which number, such as 1-800-IDOL1 or whatever, and what to dial to vote for them once phone lines are open, sometimes what they show on a 10-15 second clip is not we saw on the show.

That and also it probably sounds quite different to the judges than it does to us on TV.

I think some people are favored by the judges but I sure hope its us who puts the 13 singers through to the next week or not. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some rigging going on, as is the case on a lot of reality TV which is probably not quite "reality".

Anyway, Stefano stepped out in a way I don't think the cameras have shown. He's a real talent with no gimmick, just a great voice. Jacob Lusk was amazing like always, even when out of tune or oversang the Heart song. And Paul, while not really on key tonight, gets away with being different than the rest. Paul is the most original by far but may be too limited for an all around pop show. That didn't stop Taylor Hicks from winning it though.

As for the girls, Pia is the best but was not that great this week.

Haven't watched too much of this season after watching JLo feel too bad to correctly judge early on in the show. Then she cried...come on now. You are a judge-if you can't give constructive criticism or tell people they're not cut out for this industry you shouldn't be on the show, I'm sorry.
The shows I have watched, I am not too impressed with the performers either...they're okay but haven't found any that stuck out...

Paul is just dreadful. That's not being "different", it's called "sucking". Sorry.

Casey definitely did not deserve to be in the bottom, and neither did Stefano. I still think James is gonna take the whole thing in the end. Next week- two girls go home. After that, someone please rid us of Paul.

Hi Lee,

Do you think it could come down to James and Jacob? If both really boot it out each week, I think the same type of intense competition could happen like it did back when it was Clay vs. Ruben. That was such a great season, and arguably the franchise has slowly dwindled since then.

There have been some bright spots since like Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, and Lee DeWyze. But this season could promise the first equally talented finale. Being that the voters are obviously lost (ie Casey), neither James nor Jacob may make it to the finale.

A James and Jacob finale would make me very happy indeed. It's just so good to see this happen for James. People like him are why I like shows like American Idol. It's such a great opportunity for people like him who may not have otherwise been heard. It's such a nice thing to see.

Sorry, but Jacob needs to go away... far away
Thankfully the judges used their "save" on Casey so it won't be there for Jacob

James, Scotty and Casey are the best entertainers
Casey is in trouble though because his act is wearing thin

Pia is extremely talented with her voice, but she is incredibly boring as are most of the girls

Scotty consistently sings in tune on every song. He can win this whole thing.

Casey does need to show other sides of his talent to make it to the finale.

This year is for the guys, again. Next year, if there is a next year, there needs to be some really strong female vocal talent. Where is Kelly or Carrie or Fantasia?

Thia, while young and good for her age, had to go and it's amazing she even got into the top 24.

The other girls are in serious jeopardy, except for maybe Pia.

Paul was bottom three, and while he has a distinctive style, he has to reach out more to a larger audience and try something new. It's how you get to the top 6 on this show (usually). If there's something more versatile in Paul, and also Pia, either of them could come in as a dark horse and actually win this competition.

What I think so far is that it can be Jacob, James, or Casey with Scotty not far behind.

Fantasia sang really bad last night, and on top of that, she looked horrible
Jennifer Hudson clearly should have won that season

Scotty and James are the cream of this crop
Scotty and Lauren's duet last night was awesome

I refuse to watch Jacob sing another song

Lauren, when on, is the best female singer in this competition.

Scotty, if he can do something besides country and western (and he does the real thing as opposed to what young people call "country" which is the newer country/pop) then he can win. Steven Tyler got it right when he said it was amazing how Scotty did country western since when Aerosmith was starting out, country music was country-western or country and western. Being a fan of the original artists, I don't know why the industry took out the "western" in the title as that totally ignores all the great stuff that came out of Texas, Oklahoma, California, Arizona, etc as well as the hugely influential "Bakersfield Sound" which influenced country-western, country, rockabilly, and jazz. If Scotty wins this whole thing, I hope he can introduce people to the western cowboy side of country music which were at its roots but lost favor to Nashville and the southeast and their own influential takes on country.

I think Jacob has the best chops but his weakness is that he can be a one trick pony like Scotty.

James, when on, is as good as any winner from AI but he has to hold back on those high notes (Jacob, too, for that matter) because people can tire of it and it can cost them the competition as we all saw with Adam Lambert. People were wowed by Adam's high notes but bored by his over-use of them.

What is great is about this season is that there are quite a few people who have to potential to go all the way. The only singer who I thought was not a possible winner was Thia, even though she's very camera friendly and humble.

Stefano, if he could get back that pitch perfect performance in his R & B style a couple/few weeks ago, he can win this whole thing. Whenever I think of anybody who I think can't win, there's always at least one performance where they showed they can go all the way. I am partial to James only because he's a local from my parts, but in the big cities near me, there's so many singers who have made it from SF, Oakland, San Jose, and surrounding bay area that in a way James would have a huge set of shoes to step into if he wins AI but then has to represent northern California.

Current top 3
James - his to lose
Scotty - effortless
Hailey - coming on strong the past 2 weeks

Bottom 3
Jacob - do not like him on or off the stage
Paul - goofy, not in a good way
Stefano - give it up

Updated:

Ok, Pia goes home last night

Is it because she is the worst? Nooooo
Paul, Stefano and Jacob are clearly worse

But... Paul has "Vote for the Worst" working for him

Pia has no soul, but she will get more pub for being snubbed

Once again... James and Scotty are the ones to watch

At this point in the competition, I think Scotty is the more unique singer. There has never been an authentic country and western singer of the original retro genre on this show. Yes, we have had modern country but that's just a flavor of pop music.

If not Paul, for originality, I think Scotty is probably in top dog position as for weekly votes.

Hometown guy James has the votes of folk in my city, of course, but Adam has done the high voice thing very well so that could work against James who will probably come in second place.

I hope there are enough young people voting who know the history of country music from the old days (especially west coast, Fullerton, and Bakersfield) to understand just how important Scotty is and that he can bring a new spin to American Idol.

Also, Scotty, besides Pia, is the only singer to have never veered off pitch.

James and Jacob hit the high notes all the time, but can struggle on regular register keys. Stefano can be too safe as with Hailey even though they have had an isolated great week or two.

I would like to see James and Jacob, with their large voices, go against Scotty with his complete originality, to be the final three. This is yet another guys year for AI.

Steven Tyler's daughter Chelsea in a video!

Just found a video with Steven Tyler's daughter in it called "Long Slow Drag" by Taddy Porter. She really looks like her dad in this video! http://bit.ly/eJajJ4

I agree.

Amazing, those genes. But more amazing is while they look a lot alike, one is very good looking and the other is very scary looking. ;)
Which is which? ;)

I also believe that American Idol should be stopped..
They're making too much money. Besides, I rather enjoy it. My boyfriend probably thinks it should be stopped too though, cause he is obligated to watch it with me. :D

So glad Paul is gone now.
Next is Jacob and Stefano; at least that is my opinion. Stefano is boring and Jacob is fake yet disgusting.

I am liking Haley more and more.

James is my pick. I think he's awesome.

I like Scotty, but rock is my thing. I have enjoyed the Scotty and Lauren duets though and think they really compliment each other.

OMG, you force somebody to watch AI? (no wonder why he won't PM me!!) jk

Anyway, rock is my thing, too, and while my hometown boy James is really great, he's not quite up there with Constantine, Bo, and Adam from past seasons as full on rockers. Still, James could be the most talented person on this season.

What makes Scotty so special is that of all the country singers in AI's history, Scotty is not a crossover country type of star, he's the real thing and I totally respect that. I personally don't like modern country, but I grew up on the real stuff like John Denver, Johnny Cash, Glenn Campbell, Willie Nelson, and the western swing bands of the 1950s and 1960s. That type of heartfelt country, without the glitz and hype, is the real music which put the song first and not the artist. It was closer to bluegrass where it was a community and not a platinum record collecting war and multi-million dollar agents.

That being said, if Scotty wins, the powerful AI franchise will force him to be an all around pop singer, the way they did with Carrie Underwood, who has topped rock, pop, country, gospel, and R & B and made millions for the franchise. And AI is no slouch when it comes to going after Broadway and Hollywood, too (Tonys, Golden Globes and Oscars).

I also agree that AI won't go anywhere since they are doing very well and "are" the record industry for now. Part of that was the wisdom in AI recognizing Apple Inc and iTunes and not trying to fight them. When regular weekly performances during the season on AI top the iTunes sales charts, it's a great sign that Simon Fuller has a good relationship with Steve Jobs. ;)

So much of the season has become predictable, except for Casey leaving, but tonight, Haley came out and won the night. If she can keep this level from now on, she can challenge the guys.

Scotty was the best on the guys' side tonight.
