So much of the season has become predictable, except for Casey leaving, but tonight, Haley came out and won the night. If she can keep this level from now on, she can challenge the guys.

Scotty was the best on the guys' side tonight.
I kinda think it's shaping up for a James vs. Haley finale. Scotty and Lauren are talented kids but I don't think either of them has that spark to make it all the way to the end. And don't get me started on Jacob, good grief.

Jacob will probably be the next to go, followed by Lauren.

I think it's definitely James, with either Haley or Scotty coming in second place. It will be fun this season to see who goes the entire distance.

James has been the most consistent from the very beginning, but Haley has become better in recent weeks. It's probably James' competition to lose.

Agreed- love James and I really wanna see him win. He needs and deserves it.

There have been some seasons where a singer dominated from beginning to end, Lee Deweese most recently, but Ruben, Kelly, and Fantasia in earlier seasons, and this season the hands down winner has been James.

I think James is great at the rocker and power ballad thing and he has that down, however, I think he's far more versatile than he is showing.

While he will probably win Idol, I think his recording career can have him do rock/pop of course, but he can if he wanted sing R&B, country, and adult contemporary and do well in those genres, too.

A past singer who can probably do it all is Carrie Underwood.

This was unexpected. James?

I have to pull for Scotty for overall consistency to win it all. The remaining singers have all improved, but had their ups and downs, but Scotty was good from the start.

I was SHOCKED that James was eliminated. Even with Scotty next to him, I didnt think he was going home. Unfortunate because I really wanted him to win. I still think he plays in the finale with Steven.

I love Haley's voice, but if Lauren loses that fear, she can win it.

Well, that was a shame, I thought it was James' to lose. Of the three remaining, I suppose I'm pulling for Lauren, but they all seem like decent kids. Am sort of indifferent now.

Is it me, or has a lot of the excitement been pulled from the show now that James is gone? I looked forward to seeing him perform, but now that he is gone, its a little bland now, especially going into the semi finale.

I too like Haley--her House of the Rising Sun was awesome--Eric Burdon should be pleased with what she did with that song. I have also been very impressed with Lauren the past couple of weeks--getting sent to the bottom has certainly helped make her fight for the top spot. I guess Scotty is talented but I just don't like his style of country music--nothing against him--just his genre. I would have rather seen Scotty eliminated instead of James but I guess that wasn't in the cards.

I think Scotty's talent is pretty limited but at least he does something good consistently.

The other two could have their moments but neither of the girls are all that consistent even though they have improved.

Scotty was a full package, though a one trick pony, from the beginning but ready to hit the stage as a star from day one. I hope America realizes this and Idol should be about singers who have it down, and have it now, instead of have this show be a singing 101 class. We are talking about the best young talent of over 100,000 contestants trying every year, so to expect a singer to produce a good performance each week is something that should be the very least of expectations.

It started being over with Pia’s elimination. And then the guy with the flashy clothes (forget the name) was sent home. And now James. They’re pretty much left with the least talent.

Scotty is and has been one of the better ones. But other than him, the other two should have gone home before Paul, James, and Pia. It's not the show, and it's not the judges, but the voting public. God only knows how Jordan Sparks ever won, or how Adam Lambert lost, or how AI's crowd never recognized Jennifer Hudson (Oscar, Grammy).

It will be fun to see who is big 20 years after this show goes off the air. Some TV shows had what would be very famous people who were nobodies at the time such as The Dating Game who one had unknown Tom Selleck, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Andy Kaufman as contestants. My guess is that Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson will be famous ten years from now and outgrow any perceived stigma and campyness the show may have had in some viewers' eyes.

Unless, and until, Price-Waterhouse runs the on-line voting, I would be suspicious of anything to do with that "show".

Why do you think the real talent bails before they are committed winners?

Because they don't want to give their lives away, to some grubby, low-life, producers.

In the very first season, I thought this was reality TV.

But it became apparent it wasn't about signing the #1 contestant, especially after Paris was kicked off for her adult website yet Simon got the rights to produce her for a time. She wasn't even top 12, so what's that about? If AI sees somebody they can work with early, they will. It's a business at the end of the day.

When I did see an awards show for best reality TV show, "The Biggest Loser" won over AI. At least you can't fake the weight losing thing. But with AI, who really knows if the show picked the winner or not or what really happens to the singers after the next season comes along.

Arguably, the biggest legitimate star from the show was not even a top 2 finalist, and singer/actor Jennifer Hudson received the Grammy and Oscar and showed us the judges can't spot a real talent when that talent comes their way.

AI is just a way to take up space on TV and have high ratings and it's for entertainment, but not the most serious way to find and make a star. Knock Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga all you want, but they came up through traditional paths to stardom, and it seems to be better than Kelly and Justin from season 1. Part of me thought Kelly and Justin would be huge stars and household words year after year and that AI and America would at least support them. I also thought that Ruben and Clay would be long lasting veterans in the music business by now. The hype in the first two seasons was amazing and it looked like AI would be a hits machine equal to the early Capitol Records or Motown.

I do like the kind of long lasting effect that Carrie Underwood has had, but she still does not have the lasting power or respect of a non-AI star who gets a few top 10 hits. The AI stars are meant to burn very brightly for a very short period of time and in ten years, you can count on one hand who has stayed on top since their respective wins or Top 12 showings.

That being said, and having the night off, I will watch the finale of this season. It appears most obvious that one singer (Scott) is so far better than the other, but we will have to hang in there just a little longer to see who actually wins according to the show. If Lauren (probably not even top 12 material) wins this thing, people everywhere are going to cry foul.

Who here thinks Lauren was better than Casey or Pia? I may just enjoy watching the judges for the time slot that the singing.

Scotty wins, just like I thought, but Lauren did give him a run for his money on the last singing contest. I really underestimated Lauren, and she pulled out her real talent late in this season. Scotty has always been very consistent and brought it every week.

As for the two actually being a couple, we will find out only after all the internet speculation dies down some. AI was careful in taking the cameras away from the two when they showed any public affection tonight. It could be due to their age and the show's rather conservative social stance.

I tuned into the last hour of the finally and I realized why I stopped watching the show. All of the performances are so staged and unnatural. As for the final 2, based on what I saw I think it was the weakest final ever.
