Unless, and until, Price-Waterhouse runs the on-line voting, I would be suspicious of anything to do with that "show".
Why do you think the real talent bails before they are committed winners?
Because they don't want to give their lives away, to some grubby, low-life, producers.
In the very first season, I thought this was reality TV.
But it became apparent it wasn't about signing the #1 contestant, especially after Paris was kicked off for her adult website yet Simon got the rights to produce her for a time. She wasn't even top 12, so what's that about? If AI sees somebody they can work with early, they will. It's a business at the end of the day.
When I did see an awards show for best reality TV show, "The Biggest Loser" won over AI. At least you can't fake the weight losing thing. But with AI, who really knows if the show picked the winner or not or what really happens to the singers after the next season comes along.
Arguably, the biggest legitimate star from the show was not even a top 2 finalist, and singer/actor Jennifer Hudson received the Grammy and Oscar and showed us the judges can't spot a real talent when that talent comes their way.
AI is just a way to take up space on TV and have high ratings and it's for entertainment, but not the most serious way to find and make a star. Knock Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga all you want, but they came up through traditional paths to stardom, and it seems to be better than Kelly and Justin from season 1. Part of me thought Kelly and Justin would be huge stars and household words year after year and that AI and America would at least support them. I also thought that Ruben and Clay would be long lasting veterans in the music business by now. The hype in the first two seasons was amazing and it looked like AI would be a hits machine equal to the early Capitol Records or Motown.
I do like the kind of long lasting effect that Carrie Underwood has had, but she still does not have the lasting power or respect of a non-AI star who gets a few top 10 hits. The AI stars are meant to burn very brightly for a very short period of time and in ten years, you can count on one hand who has stayed on top since their respective wins or Top 12 showings.
That being said, and having the night off, I will watch the finale of this season. It appears most obvious that one singer (Scott) is so far better than the other, but we will have to hang in there just a little longer to see who actually wins according to the show. If Lauren (probably not even top 12 material) wins this thing, people everywhere are going to cry foul.
Who here thinks Lauren was better than Casey or Pia? I may just enjoy watching the judges for the time slot that the singing.
