Man, I hope the remaining contestants do a lot better job than the first three have tonight!

Taylor was horrible IMO, to bland... But Mandisa! I dont know what the judges were smokin but she was amazing. (And im not really into that church pop)

Very interesting show tonight!

Lisa Tucker - Didn't shine. Her vocals are always flat, she needs to add some texture and softness to her arrangements and she needs to try not to be so nasal.

Kellie Pickler - Boring.

Ace Young - Dear Lord... This boy cannot sing and he has the most annoying personality of anyone on this season. Unfortunately he won't get eliminated tonight because so many other people performed so badly, but I don't think he'll last many more weeks and I'm glad about that.

Taylor Hicks - I agree with the judges, the song wasn't lively enough for him. He's capable of more. His voice isn't suited to subtlety, so he shouldn't attempt songs like that.

Mandisa - She's always consistent to a certain level, but she was at the bottom of her spectrum tonight. She can do better. I think the song was too 'in-your-face'. Her traditional beliefs are starting to annoy me, but that's another discussion for another forum.

Chris Daughtry - Finally a judge said it! Thank the lord for Simon. Chris does the same thing every single week. Finally I'm not the only one who's tired with that.

Katharine McPhee - Great song choice, but she needs to work on transitioning from the softer, airier, head voice parts of the song to the full, chest, belting parts. It didn't sound smooth, and I disagree with Simon. She didn't sing it almost as good as Christina Aguilera. Christina is definitely a better singer than Katharine McPhee.

Bucky Covington - He's so frickin' mediocre. He has never impressed me. Not a single time.

Paris Bennett - Definitely gets my vote tonight. All three judges were right. Randy said it was hot. Paula liked it too. Simon said it was pretentious, I believe. I agree! And I like that! That's what singing that kind of song is all about! And she totally worked it out ;)! Best we've see of Paris so far. Perfect song choice.

Elliott Yamin - He's still my favorite, but please Elliott, politely step back into your boundaries ;). He's got too much soul to be singing soul-less Gavin Degraw songs.

My vote goes to Paris Bennet and I hope that either Kelly Pickler or Bucky Covington gets eliminated this week. Oh, and I hope Ace Young gets eliminated too, but that's wishful thinking.

I agree mostly with Emerson's comments, except for the part about it being an "interesting" show tonight. Unless he was just being charitable. This was just a train wreck all around, even with the bright spot from Paris late in the show.

I did like Mandisa's performance better than the judges did. Sounds like Simon's new catchphrase is "self-indulgent", he used it twice tonight. :D

P.S. Oh, I guess I should give my prediction about who's the next to go. I think Ace's was probably the worst performance tonight, but I'll predict that Lisa's the next to go, given that she's been in the bottom three for two weeks running now. I have the feeling her luck has run out.

I sort of was ;). It was pretty dreadful for the most part. I thought it was interesting because everyone did so bad when they had the option to sing whatever they wanted.

i absolutely agree...elliott yamin may be my favorite now

i liked paris but i guess simon wasn't wowed...by god, simon, she's only a teen so of course she will look like a teenage singer trying to copy beyonce...i wonder how great beyonce was when she was just a kid?

I just noticed that I have a TV channel with American Idol ...

I don't know how far you've come in the US, but it's ladies night here ... and I can only say one thing:

my god they're horrible

Goodbye Lisa Tucker :).

I wish it was Ace, but whatever, he won't make it much longer.

How Bucky escaped the bottom three is a mystery. Katharine McPhee isn't in contention for the top spot, IMO, but she certainly didn't deserve to be in the bottom three. Hopefully Ace will be eliminated next week.

Katharine is the best singer in the competition! =P She's pretty eneough to turn me straight too, woo buddy! :D By far my favorite American Idol contestant in all the seasons, even more so than Kelly -- and I've listened to one of Kelly's songs over 2000 times! (so, that's saying alot)

You're so silly :D.

That's a good thing though :).

I ain't lying! That girl is FINE. Like, UBER FINE. I don't know what it is about her but I wanna just pull her from the TV and keep her forever. She's SOOO pretty. *drifts into dreams* mmm

Chris was tired this week. I agree with you.

Katherine sucked as usual, so did Lisa and I'm glad she's gone.

I'm with you on Paris, she's gonna win it.

BUT- Ace Young MUST GO!

If anyone was tired, it was me from listening to Chris conduct another personal screaming session. He was worthy of being arrested for SUI - singing under the influence. As for Paris, she would be hard pressed to win it in France.

Next week it will be time for what will likely be nine of the worst pieces of country junk coming your way. Keep the remote handy ... I am sure my mute button will be pressed into action.

i couldn't believe katherine was in the bottom three...bucky and kellie belonged there more

katherine is maybe somewhere in the middle of the pack and she will probably be safe next week with ace, kellie, or bucky getting kicked off

katherine technically has a good voice but does not have the whole performer package like chris, elliott, mandisa, taylor, and paris

chris may be off the show by default because the band FUEL wants him as their lead singer and it also helps that chris sang one of their hit songs on idol a few weeks ago

but back to katherine...she has the voice as good as anybody out there...but she can't go on looks because that didn't help lisa last night or the first girl kicked off the the top 12 who simon adequately said would be successful as a model...she has to ramp up her performances and charisma and being in the bottom three last night should be a wake up call for her (i have not given up on katherine even though tuesday's performance was not up to her usual level)

Ahhh! I got distracted (playing around in Garageband, no less) and missed half the show :(.

I came in as Paris was being reviewed.

The contestants I saw:

Ace Young - As nasal and inconsistent as you'd expect. I seriously can't believe the judges encourage his horrible falsetto! See my earlier post for why I think his falsetto is so unpleasant. It wasn't his worst performance though, unfortunately.

Kellie Pickler - She looked good tonight, relative to her other performances, but she bores me.

Chris Daughtry - Now, I've been saying that he refuses to step out of his rocker comfort zone and that that's boring. Tonight marked his first non rock performance. It wasn't as bad as I expected! It didn't stand out though. His vibratto is forced and harsh, and he doesn't have loud guitars to cover it up unless he's singing rock. I'd say that's the weakest aspect of his voice.

Katharine McPhee - Good, but I don't think she's vocally capable of really awing anyone, as Mandissa and Elliott are. I can't see her winning because she doesn't stand out enough.

Bucky Covington
- His best performance so far, that I've seen. However, at his best, he is barely better than decent.

and from the short snippets I saw at the end of the show:

Taylor Hicks - He sounded wretched in the clip! Very surprising!

Mandisa - Mandisa is consistent, and she sounded good in the clip, but this isn't the right music for her.

Elliott Yamin - Sounded okay, but he's gotta tone down his vibratto. His strong vibratto is what makes his voice stand out, but if it's too strong, it sounds like he isn't in full control of it, it starts to sound un-natural. His clip sounded decent.

Paris Bennet - Paris sounded decent in her clip as well, but she wasn't performing as I know she can.

I'd like to see Ace Young go home, and I'm withholding my vote this week because I didn't get to see everyone. I look forward to the videos showing up on YouTube, I'd like to see taylor hicks, mandisa, and elliott.

i usually think ace is underwhelming compared to the other male singers especially, but he was pretty good last night and i actually enjoyed him more than taylor hicks who is one of my favorites

kelly pickler, who i thought would possibly be the next to go, redeemed herself for at least another week and i liked her

the rest did about what i would have expected them to

I missed the beginning of the show too, so I've only seen the short clips of Taylor and Mandisa. From what I saw, it's probably for the best that I missed those two. It was just a rough night all around, sort of like last week's show. Kellie did a good job last night as expected, but I agree that she's boring.

Can we just vote everybody off the show and start over with a new slate of contestants? :D

Side note, but it's rumored that Prince will make an appearance on American Idol:
Prince may not like American Idol, but that won't stop him from using the show to sell more records. Gossip site PageSix.com reports today that enigmatic pop star Prince will appear on the reality show at the behest of his record company, Universal Music.

Executives are urging Prince to appear on Idol and perform a song from his latest LP, 3121, after Barry Manilow received a huge bump in sales following his appearance on the show. The site quotes a source close to Prince as saying that the move isn't sitting well with his majesty.

I thought it was another suck night that will probably have me checking in just to see who gets voted off in subsequent weeks. Kellie looked hot and performed well enough so that she should be safe tonight. I agree that this show might be better off starting anew ... thanks for the advance notice about Prince (one more reason to watch something else).

This is the first year I've actually watched Idol and it's been interesting. I really like Taylor, but he did poorly last night (I still don't think he should be voted off, though).

I think it's time that Bucky and Ace to go home. I had hoped Ace would go home last week (especially after that cheesy thing he did pointing to his scar during the song), but agreed that Lisa deserved the "buh-bye" treatment more. I just want them to get rid of Ace and his nasally voice. And Bucky's mumblings that are either too sharp or flat should just cease. I still have a ringing in my ears from his performance last night. (Please make it stop!)

of all the five seasons, it could be said this season and the last are the most interesting since there are no clear favorites...season 1 had kelly and justin, season 2 had clay and rueben, and season 3 was fantasia all the way

last year, i thought bo had it but carrie won so that made it unpredictable...and constantine got voted off earlier than i had planned

this year, i think it could be taylor, mandisa, elliott, or even kellie if she keeps on improving like she has...actually same with ace or katherine and it's anybody's season...paris and chris are also the best sometimes, but only in their genres...only bucky for sure is one i think won't go all the way to the last show but even he can make the final four

this is also about looks and image and clay aiken went a long way to help himself from his debut to the finale where he became a chick magnet from some geeky looking nerd...taylor could use help with his hair like he has been hinting at...and bucky can get a haircut and shave that mustache and he could outdo ace in the female votes department
