And the award goes to....

I had an Amiga 500. A friend had an Atari ST and another had a Mac. You only get one guess which one was the best computer in its day.

If only I could play on my iPad:

Rocket Ranger
Fairy Tale Adventure
Indiana Jones and the Fate of the Atlantis
The Pawn
Frontier: Elite II
Sierra on Line games (Besides Leisure Suit larry)
Captain Blood

I can dream, can´t I?

THIS.IS.AWESOME!

I just plugged my A1200 into my TV, albeit composite video. Still have the A1000 in a bin with a bunch of discs. Just haven't had the time to go through my large collection (yet). Sure hope they bring back some awesome classics.

It Came From The Desert
International Karate and IK+
Cannon Fodder
Mega Lo Mania
Populous/Powermonger/Populous II
Supercars/Supercars 2
Speedball/Speedball 2
Sensible Soccer
Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge
Nuclear War
Ultima 4
All of LucasArts

Ahhhh.... such fond memories. :D

I still dont understand why we cant find an Apple II emulator for iOS. I would love to be able to re-live some of those games (other than Zork).

Just to pile on...

… I don't think this company, bearing the Amiga name but not being the Commodore of old, will have any of the great IP we remember from our childhoods. I would love to be wrong.

I'm glad Lemmings is getting a lot of love. I believe the original PSP Lemmings was a direct remake of the Amiga original, albeit with updated visuals, audio and a few modern comforts. I enjoyed it at the time, but that was years ago.

It's a shame the folks who own the IP aren't all over iOS. There are so many franchises that would work great on the iPad, and I'd pay good money for them. A true Syndicate title instead of the FPS EA recently released is high on my list.

Why hasn't anyone made a Lemmings port for iOS yet? The iPad would be the PERFECT way to play that game.

Another game that the iPad would be perfect for is Marble Madness. It is almost criminal that this hasn't been ported.

(There is a 'Marble Madness' in the iTunes store, but it is nothing at all like the original game)

Unlikely they will publish many of the very good games. Most IPs are still owned by their respective owners or those who swallowed the companies.

Lemmings/Shadow of the Beast: Psygnosis, recently trademarked by Sony who own Psygnosis. Also, they announced a Shadow of the Beast remake exclusively for PS4.

Turrican is still owned by Factor 5, AFAIK.

Well, ain't nothing better than having the real hardware in the collection :)

Yup - "Amiga" was the brand-name used by Commodore computers for their high-end computer line. Commodore didn't do a lot of first-party publishing, most of the good games for the Commodore and Amiga computer lines were by third parties.

As noted here, many of those are still around. If we go by one source's list of "Top 100 (Amiga) Games of All Time", many of them are by companies that are still around.

Of course, the new owners of the Amiga name (I think this is the sixth company to hold the trademark "Amiga",) could sign licensing deals with the original publishers to bring the old Amiga-era works to market in an emulator. (As some other 'vintage' gaming companies have done.)

Here you go.

It's Syndicate in everything but name only. Made by the same guy and everything.

This.

I'm surprised we haven't seen many more roly physics games like Marble Madness on the iPad. I was thinking the other day how Mercury would be another good game to play with a touchscreen. We do get a good bit of games like Puddle, but...they're not quite the same.

Also, I want to see a port of Qbert. We've got just about every single oldschool arcade game accounted for on the iPad, except for it.

I have an Amiga 1000 with RAM expansion, External Drive, and Monitor all in boxes. I was 16 when I bought one after saving for quite some time. My Mom matched any money that I saved and finally got one in the summer of '86.

Great days!

Same. I got my Atari ST back in 1987 I think. They were £299 back then from memory. The Amiga 500 was £100 more expensive. (It might have been £399 and £499 I can't remember which)

All of us ST owners kept trying to convince ourselves it was better than the Amiga - we all knew deep down the Amiga was better than anything else on the market.

I can't believe you diehards haven't mentioned probably the most groundbreaking Amiga game of all time: Out of this World / Another world. Luckily it's already been remade for iOS!
Blows my mind that the game was programmed and ran on a Amiga 500.
