By the way before anyone asks, no I'm not really Scott Forstall, just a big fan of his work and hater of his ugly and arrogant nemesis Ive. I'm confident Forstall will resurface somewhere and when that time comes I want to be on his radar to have the chance to work for him.
Seriously man cheer up!!! you're sooooooo negative, oh and the hate you have for Jony is worrying

Bright and glittery gold iphone is the worst idea I've ever heard in my life. Thank you for thinking of it.

Scott is a goon and is lost without Apple. Ives makes Forstall look like a kindergartener. You and Scott can go for a sail on his 1980's stinking loser boat.

The home button ring is gold, just like the silver phone has a silver ring.

Don't feed the troll. IF everybody ignores him he might go away

I don't have to read such comments to love my dogs even more... Given the choice between my dogs and the human race, the human race will always be SOL.

Back on topic:

I think Apple is going to be the first company ever to win TWO vaporware of the century awards. One for the iWatch, the other one for the iTV (or AppleTV or whatever the rumor mill calls it this year).

But you never know, even Duke Nukem Forever eventually turned into a real product. Maybe in ten years or so from now, the iWatch and the iTV will also see the light of day. Or maybe not. Ultimately, it doesn't matter at all - both are essentially unnecessary and redundant products anyway. Redundant in the meaning that other companies have already been shipping such things for years by the time that Apple puts something on the market. Unnecessary because, well, nobody needs a watch to turn on the light in your living room or that serves as a companion for your smartphone. And the big question is what an iTV is supposed to do for you that your PC or Mac and your SmartTV from Samsung or Toshiba and/or your PlayStation or Xbox haven't been doing for you for the last years already.

The iWatch and iTV rumors have entered Shakespearean dimensions: MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.

I disagree. I think the I watch will be a success. Why not? It won't be really expensive, people need to spend the money in something, apple'' client base is massive an loyal... The I watch doesn't need to be great to succeed.

Regarding the itv... I don't think it will happen. I can't see the business model.

Having said this, this is my last post on this forum. I just got a message from a moderator, saying that reply to a post with just one word is making other people waste their time (?!) and I might get banned. Great forum, but some of the moderator are a shame.

Nah, once a day. 12 hour time is for fools.

nop, its still twice. You have AM and PM. Unless you're thinking about digital watch but in that case, if its broken, you wont even see the numbers:cool:

Is this the same guy who predicted an iRing to go with an Apple branded TV. :D

Apple hasn't announced any of these two products, so your vaporware analogy doesn't work. All the iTV and iWatch speculation is based on wishes, assumptions and misinterpretations.

And my god if you're going to make a "gold" product, don't make some ridiculous copout champagne colored gold that isn't even gold at all on the front. Grow a freaking pair and make something bright and glittery enough to do the color justice.

Quite right.

At the very least, there should be a special edition model studded with Swarovski crystals.

A matching phone and watch like this would be extremely popular with the Arab and Chinese markets.

If Scott Forstall were in charge of Apple's product design, we'd have all this already.

I'll take 2 8gb ones pkease

The register is that way -->

You don't have AM/PM with a 24 hour clock. And if your digital shows AM/PM while it uses 24 hour format, it's wrong.

Hopefully somebody other than Ive is designing them. He's messed up enough Apple products already.

Ive's designs have sold so poorly over the past several years. And the champagne/gold iPhones are just gathering dust since people hate how they look.

"...described this potential new device as much more than an extension of your iPhone but as a multi-purpose gateway in allowing consumers to control their home (i.e., heating/cooling, lights, audio, video, etc.)"

Right...because my home, just like everyone else's, somehow magically has every electronic appliance connected to the internet and/or local wifi and/or an Apple gateway device.

Call me in 30 years.

Home automation? Apple should just leave it to the developers on that one.

It's definitely gonna be better than Samsung's watch. That thing looks like crap. A curved display will be awesome and a find my iDevice feature.

I've already mentioned this in my post. If Apple can create an accurate location for each user / homeowner, the system would know when a user is approaching a door, when a user goes to bed, etc. Security cameras, lighting, music, room-by-room temperature control, & many other things could be controlled or monitored via a user's iWatch, iPhone AND customized based on where the person is within the home. (Such as providing heat/lighting to only the areas of the home that are occupied). In short, home automation devices are NOT static when it comes to the user interface aspect. A user's exact location within a home could be a VERY key ingredient to future home automation. Even a very basic home automation system (entry level cost) could use a user's location for some features.

These features are nice, but probably won't be available to the regular consumer for decades - most homes in North America are built with Central Air and it would cost a small fortune to convert these to zoned air systems.

Also to wire a house for home automation costs a small bundle too - that's why it's remained a niche market.

Not sure if Home Automation is where Apple will go, but perhaps on a smaller scale like setting the alarm clock when you're near one, or turning on the iPod/iPhone dock when you're close to one.

After iOS 7 and its candy colors everywhere shtick I welcome Forstall's influence. iOS 7 makes some ameture UI mistakes because the got rid of all the visual cues so many features are just "hidden badly" that's different from iOS 6 which was "clever". Johnny's hand was too heavy in ios 7 and they will need to back off next time.

Love it. Apple is picked on for not being innovative, and when they ARE innovative people now say they are TOO innovative.

Can't win.

Since there's so much speculation on its possible uses, no matter what it finally is or does, an Apple smart watch is going to be quickly branded as "disappointing" and lacking features.

Remember the wild rumors about an "Apple tablet" before the iPad was announced, and how disappointed some people were that it was "nothing more than a big iPod touch"?

Apple is masterful at adding features. They always start with a simple device, and add stuff one model later, like 3G. they did it later with 4G - everybody else had it, but Apple was able to delay it a year so that the next model had a killer feature.

I have the Pebble, but find it cheap, limited and a bit quirky. I also have a Casio Bluetooth which I like more than the Pebble, but the Casio doesn't have CallerID and iMessage.

I like the idea of an iWatch, but I seriously doubt 2 versions would be coming out with home automation. Make 1 version that works..home automation can be controlled via Wifi or Bluetooth, and is already starting to mature. I doubt Apple is ready to tackle that market.

I admit they've refined the iphone and need something to wow us...just don't think this will be it.

Yep...

I wouldn't be surprised if this guy's "source" is actually somebody getting info from one of the folks at Apple tasked with leaking misinformation. (It was said Apple does this occasionally, so it can identify who certain media outlets are getting their rumors from.)

Home automation is a complicated problem. Not that I wouldn't welcome Apple tackling it at some point! But so far, all we've really seen are little piecemeal solutions to specific aspects of it, such as the software controllable replacement lights, or the efforts Nest made with the thermostat and now smoke detector. In the past, X10 corporation tried to market a complete home automation solution and you rarely see it in use today because it simply wasn't reliable enough! The signals didn't always make it through an entire home's electrical system, and components themselves were shoddy. (EG. The replacement X10 enabled wall switches often stopped working with the manual on/off push-button, because the buttons would wear out.)

The companies doing home automation well are all very high-end systems makers who you generally pay a contractor to install for you.

Basically, there's about zero chance Apple has secretly put together a superior home automation system, controllable by iWatch, right in the middle of trying to get a new line of Macs out the door and right after finishing the iPhone 5c and 5s launch.

A broken clock is right twice a day. This guy is clueless.

I would live for Apple to get into the home automation business. It's a largely untapped area and could represent the "new product category" Apple has been looking for since Jobs died. I don't believe an iWatch is this new product. It's likely just going to be an iPhone shrunk to be on a wrist. That's not new. I already own an iPhone.

By the way before anyone asks, no I'm not really Scott Forstall, just a big fan of his work and hater of his ugly and arrogant nemesis Ive. I'm confident Forstall will resurface somewhere and when that time comes I want to be on his radar to have the chance to work for him.

You may like his work, which is OK, but to work for him? By all indications, he was a monster to work with. Likely one of the reasons he was fired.

Samsung Commercial

I know I have a tendency to take technology for granted but the Samsung Galaxy Watch commercial with all the old Sci-Fi TV shows put a smile on my face.

I used to dream about the day I could have a watch like Captain Kirk or Michael Knight or even Maxwell Smart.

But now that the technology is here - it just seems so "pointless" and a recipe to make people more annoying than they are with their cell phones. Is that sad?

I think this May be the reason Apple hasn't tackled the home automation area. Apple products are usually idiot-proof. Anyone can walk into an Apple Store and immediately start using the product they bought. This wouldn't be the case with home automation.

No, if Apple bought Nest and kept is as a separate company, this could work.
