Suffer from delay! Ha!!. It's always worth waiting for something better..... Still love my 3GS and looking forward to getting a 4 at the end of the year.
I got my iphone today in the uk on 02 I have never dropped more then 1 bar on my 3gs my iphone 4 drops to 1 bar bridging the antenna!
Its just rubbish this news came out today about the fix I knew i should of canceled my phone but I did hoped it would be all hyped up garbage!

They will claim the "fix" was always part of the design but due to an error in manufacturing it wasn't being implemented in some cases.
That's fair, but I think it is probably as likely that they had to halt production to change the way the product is created. But we'll just have to wait and see I guess.
A recall means that they are telling you that you have the option of giving the product back so that they can fix it. A free bumper does not constitute recalling a device.
When the antenna was revealed by Steve in his keynote I remember seeing all the 'tabs' around the inside face of the antenna with screw holes. I remember thinking that each of those connection needs to be properly insulated and better not be making any kind of unintended electrical connection with internal components and the production tolerances and consistencies required would be important.
Anyways, this explanation seems plausible to me (I'm in no way an expert on the subject so I won't pretend I really know what I'm talking about). It could also explain why some don't seem to have the issue and some do. An inadequate insulator could be a culprit. If this is the case I'd expect Apple to repair or replace ALL phones, a la Toyota pedal recall.
I guess we'll see tomorrow...

If this new design mod is true, this is my guess for tomorrow.
Current owners can return their phones for a new one.
Apple will modify these returns and put them on the store as refurbs.
Not much loss there and good customer service.
Frankly, I really have only experienced the face sensor issue and have had no problems that I am aware of with the antenna thing.

You can return it right now anyway. If it happens tomorrow and it is a recalled you can return it for a new one. Especially as you are in the UK - if they annouce it was a faulty design they have to recall it by law over here.

Just because you are not experiencing the problem does not mean your phone doesn't have the problem. If you constantly hold the phone tightly to your ear or don't ever touch the screen with your cheek, you may not notice it but it's most likely an issue with every iPhone 4 out there. I went to the Genius Bar about it and the guy helping me admitted to having the problem with it the first day. He said that after he was conscious of it and adjusted the way he holds the phone to his ear, he didn't have it anymore. I've been conscious of it for a few weeks now and it still happens all the time. Oh , he also said that he would exchange the phone if I wanted to but it is the same in all the phones. They will fix this with a software update. They better because this screws up my calls more than anything else.
Will Steve jobs make any comments on the proximity sensor? If he does not I am selling millions of stocks of apples and hating GOD himself for EVER. I am soo angry a 7yr old girl would not be able to make the same temper tantrum as ME!!
So I guess this issue didn't come up in field testing because they were using cases to disguise the phones. Well, at least it looks like there is an actual fix in the works.
The fact that tomorrow's event is a press conference rather than a letter makes me wonder if they're actually going to demo a non-fixed vs. fixed phone to show consumers that the problem is actually "fixed". Would seem to be the best reason for a conference, and perhaps the only way to alleviate growing consumer fears.

Very curious to here the announcement tomorrow. My phone is currently in Anchorage AK and is scheduled to be delivered to my doorstep in GA tomorrow. My order status has not been delayed or changed. I am thinking I will wait for the announcement before opening the box!
Yes. Let's blame ATT for the mistakes Apple made with their formula. Let's also blame ATT for the design issue. And that the signal issue is worldwide - not just on ATT's networks. YES!

So, when SJobs said "your holding it wrong" he was warned well over a year ago by his own people that there was a problem, yet he didn't take responsibility. It is unfortunate that it took a media blitz to get this fixed.

My iphone 4 works as advertised.
My new iphone 4 works as advertised. I don't think its a design flaw. I have tried to cover all angles of my phone to bring down the bars and nothing works. I guess I have a defective iphone then? Can't make the bars go away? Never a dropped call or any other problem to report. I hope I get a FREE bumper I don't need. I am looking at Ballistic HC Case for my phone.

As a short term investor you should sell now, taking the hit from the initial investment. No matter what Apple says tomorrow, prices will fall. Re-buy tomorrow afternoon and wait for the rebound. It will happen and you will make money.

Did you not get the press release, press releases are everywhere today. Marlins are going to switch to the AL EAST, just so it can happen like doc said it will.
