You can return the phone if you so choose.

If you ordered your phone on the 15th, sorry, you cannot return it. The last day to return it was yesterday or today. What's your solution now?

As a short term investor you should sell now, taking the hit from the initial investment. No matter what Apple says tomorrow, prices will fall. Re-buy tomorrow afternoon and wait for the rebound. It will happen and you will make money.

PLEASE tell me Orange was joking?

I got my iphone today in the uk on 02 I have never dropped more then 1 bar on my 3gs my iphone 4 drops to 1 bar bridging the antenna!

Its just rubbish this news came out today about the fix I knew i should of canceled my phone but I did hoped it would be all hyped up garbage!

Don't believe me? ill post a video if you like!

LOL provide it.

By your estimate:
10 minutes x 3 Million Phones = 30 Million Minutes
30 Million / 60 = 500,000 Hours
500,000/ 24 Hrs = 20,833.333 Days
20,833.333 days/ 365 = 57.077 Years

Times that buy the hourly wage of technicians?

Sounds reasonable. Not going to happen.

Not going to happen!

Why is this not feasible? 500,000 hours x $18 = $9,000,000

Average genius wages taken from here = http://www.glassdoor.com/Hourly-Pay/Apple-Mac-Genius-Hourly-Pay-E1138_D_KO6,16.htm

$9M is peanuts compared to the revenues generated from the phone, and their overall earnings. This $9M will go a long way in enhancing their image.

My new iphone 4 works as advertised. I don't think its a design flaw. I have tried to cover all angles of my phone to bring down the bars and nothing works. I guess I have a defective iphone then? Can't make the bars go away? Never a dropped call or any other problem to report. I hope I get a FREE bumper I don't need. I am looking at Ballistic HC Case for my phone.

if this story is true - there is a design flaw. You might be a lucky one and not experience it NOW.. but do you really think Apple would change their design or manufacturing process if there wasn't an inherent flaw?

Apple should just fire AT&T. It make Apple look bad with its poor connection. Hopefully, Apple learned its lesson and spread the love of the phone to other provider with better reception.

Ah, no. Apple should learn from their screw-up. I imagine the 'current carrier partner' that is mentioned in the article calling Apple out on the design flaw is AT&T. Apple probably just said, "no worries."

"""""""""""""" A recall of the device is unlikely, because the problem doesn't affect safety and only occurs for some users in certain situations. But financial analysts said Apple could give away its $29 rubber "bumper" case, which they said would solve the antenna reception problem. The iCondom is not the solution.

I think Apple bought some time so they can stock up on the internal bumper model. Tomorrow they will announce that the issue does not affect everyone but if you are experiencing a problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar.

The genius bar will quietly swap the devices.

EZ fix

It is possible this fix is easier than you think. Open the iPhone 4 with two screws, slide off the back, install a part per special instruction that "clips" into place, close lid, reinstall 2 screws.

Apple Store visit for free repair. Return to Apple for free repair. Repair at Radio Shacks, Best Buys, and Wal-Marts???

Possible user compatible repair kit shipped to folks without store access and with a sense of capability?

Maybe.

The Genius Bar process update to account for concurrent processes seems directly related. A table with 3 stations of folks doing these quick updates at about 4 minutes per phone could get quite a few done in a day per store. They could do micro-time-appointments using the Genius Bar reservation system model.

Just speculation before an announcement . . . .

OK, so I guess the obvious question is:

If there is a relatively easy manufacturing fix, and Apple knew about the issue (which is likely), why not fix the phone before selling it?

thoughts...

Some thoughts...

Perhaps the analyst mis-understood?

I think it's far more likely that we will see a design revision where a clear/translucent non-conductive material will be adhered over the antennas, looking similar to the bumper cases.. I highly doubt there's any 'internal' bumper involved... This would be an easier fix for Apple to retrofit at stores as well..

Another option would be to give buyers an option to chose left or right handed versions of the phone where the cell antenna was flipped to not face the meaty heal of your thumb/hand when held...

I'm right handed, but when using the touch screen, hold the phone in my left hand, typing, scrolling, navigating w/ my dominate hand... But, when I use it as a phone, in the rare times I'm not on a hands-free, I hold it in my right hand.. I can sometimes see an issue when the phone is in my left hand.. I have to TRY to make it happen.. I never hold my phone w/ the antenna in the meat of the heal of my hand.. but it's been inconsistent, and not as big a problem for me as others... I never see an issue when the phone is in my right hand..

So, maybe giving buyers the choice would be an acceptable solution? It could cause confusion, but would solve the grip part of the issue...

As far as recalls go.. shrug.. I doubt it will be called that. I think if some permanently attached bumper sealant is added to new phones, customers will be given the option of having their phone retrofitted at an Apple store, or exchanging at an AT&T store. I think that if the fix is to give customers a choice in left or right handed phones, customers will be allowed to exchange their current phone at an Apple Store or AT&T store.

And many, regardless of the fix, will just leave their phones as is..

Do you mean like it's slowed the sales since the problem arose?

It is affecting sales, no doubt. I got mine the day after launch day, but two other early adopters I know (my girlfriend's folks) are holding off because of what they've heard. Just because there are still big sales doesn't mean it's not attenuating (boom-kish!) sales overall.

In any case, there is a growing issue here that has broken through to the mainstream media, it is snowballing, and Apple is carving out a special time to address it. If they deal with it, all will be cool. If they don't, it will just snowball further, and even more knives will come out.

Apple's greatest asset is their good name and reputation. They needs to protect it (and I imagine they will).

The Genius Bar Program revision was initiated 6m ago. It is now officially out of "Beta". Not related to iPhone 4 at all. Simply needed to meet increasing demands on all fronts. Mac's are close to 10% of the market as of today. Then add all the mobile devices. :apple:

There won't be a recall, keep dreaming. Just do the numbers.

Count up all the iPhone 4s in the wild, then take in to account that to order a new one now would take 3 weeks. Add a spoonful of maxed out production and tell me where all of these replacements will come from.

doesn't matter... its nobody elses' problem if Apple sold a faulty product.

if Apple admit the flaw tomorrow then legally (in any country with decent consumer laws..i.e.. not the US) they cannot continue to sell it and must refund in full any customer who has bought one, if that customer wants a refund.

knock on affect to the carriers...contract etc. rip those up.

if that takes Apple 6 days or 6 months to get units back out there then tough on them..hopefully the consumers would have seen enough and had the smarts to buy something else!!!!

Thank You...

Apple will make things right. The question is, will they replace existing iPhones before they sell new fixed ones?

I'm guessing the replacements will be done on somekind of appointment basis or mail return option??

I totally disagree, many of us have the bumpers and the reception issue is still there. At this point in time i believe Apple will stop fannying around and propose a Fix. They already have seen the media coverage and stock decline that has happened as a result of this. In my opinion they have been pissing in the wind, time to clean up and maintain consumer confidence.

There is a lot of hyperbole flying here. I'm not going say that you don't have "the issue" but there are so many variables involved in wireless (let alone AT&T), that your claim is difficult to take seriously.

I'll take the "Fake Steve Jobs" stance here: Chill out, watch the press conference tomorrow. Enjoy your family.
