I have a 2.8 extreme from a bit more that 3 years ago. I dont see any reason to update. They need to improve speed and performance to make me update. The design is quite optimal as it is...but they can of course improve - and that would probably be with focus on size.

Don't feel too bad. Mine is 1 day old and already there's a new one coming out. :) Oh well, it's not like ours are paper weights. It's still a rockin' machine.

Hey mate if it's less than 2 weeks old (in Australia at least) the consumer protection act allows you to return the stuff back, so if you haven't really used it and it's still new, consider sending it back...

I'll see how different the new one will look like. I'm hoping that it will look something like the cinema display. If the rumours are right then I'll consider selling it, like now.

MB's and iMac

I could really see them dropping the price of the Macbooks to $799, making them thinner and with higher specs. But, they will have the white and black models, along with red, blue, green and other colors just like the ipod nano. Think about it....it makes since.

As for the iMac, why do they need to make it thinner lol :D

A desktop processor in an Apple desktop? Surely you jest!
EXACTLY!

Latest iMac..

I'm a Functionality over Form kinda guy..

I'll easily take thicker -> for more power -> under da hood..!

Price? Come down a skosh, Oui?

Upgrades: OS (of course), CPU/Etc, Graphics, Latest Iteration of Commonly Included :apple: Software, and much much more...

Happy Extras: 32" Screen? Blu-Ray? USB 3.0?, Butler-Maid Capability?

Heck, bring it on already. I once thought that was what they were going to do when they released the Unibody MacBooks. Grey aluminum... bleh!

As for the iMac, if they stop selling it, it will be thin enough. :D

Maybe Apple should look at these sorts of responses and make a iMac Phat - chuck an extra inch on the back and pump the power

But also to calm their stylised erections make like a iMac air - with razor edges and a negative weight to show in the showrooms

I still want all-in-one over a minitower cos i wanna pretend its a laptop - but a pretend-laptop that could blow the others out of the silicon water would be awesome :D

I've been waiting for a month now for the new release of the Imac/Macbook.

I'm not sure what to buy!!! Let me paint you the picture so you can give me some advice... (It'll be my first mac)

I live in a student apartment, don't have a tv and I don't need a laptop for school, i'm a heavy computer user, always used a desktop before (never had a laptop)

I kinda want the imac because i have a lot of movies so i can watch them on a big screen. Furthermore the hardware you get in the Imac is better for the same price in comparison with the Macbook.

I kinda want a Macbook because it's a laptop. Easy to take somewhere (which i'm not planning to do) or easy to take on your lap/bed/...

I really hope there's going to be blue-ray!

What would you recommend me?

Get a laptop. If you are cheap get a 13" MacBook. If not get a 15". I got a 15". My girl got a 15". My son got a 13". My mom got a 17". 17" isn't all that portable. More like luggable.

Get a cheap third party external monitor that hooks right up to the Mac. How cheap is relative to size. 19" is about $150 these days. I would probably spend more than double that and have real HD. The remote works or you can use an iPhone or Touch for a remote now. Get speakers, wireless router or base station, and a USB hub. My mom got a mouse and I like using it too. I use the trackpad now. I have an external HD.

The big screen stays fixed and the laptop goes where you need it. The bed, couch, desk, on a walkabout, etc.

The recent laptops have really good battery life and video handling now.

That's my advise.

Since you're not planning to shlep a little laptop around "somewhere",
and since you've obviously got the pocket$ for a "big screen" iMac,
don't kid yerself ---> just get yerself an iMac...!

Personally I wouldn't bother with the MacBook (especially the current white version). If you've got the money, spend the extra and get the 13" MacBook Pro instead ... but you have to remember that, unless you get a bundle deal, no Macs ship with proper "office" software (word processor, etc.), so you have to add a bit more for Microsoft's Mac Office Home & Student or Apple's iWork.

There's also very little room within the current price structure for Apple to have more than one or two MacBook models, so I don't quite see where that product line is going.

Get a 24" iMac, more power, better screen, and cheaper. There is also a better chance of the iMac getting a Quad i7 (the new mobile processor not desktop) then the MacBook. Also get an Elgato EyeTV, to use your Mac as a TV ;-)

And all that will end up being quite a bit more than just an Imac.

I have both an Imac(gonna upgrade) and a Macbook pro. I honestly don't take my laptop anywhere. It's nice that it is portable around my house, but mostly I use my Imac.
