How many years is "a few years"? Because Palm Pre introduced inductive charging back in 2009, after 7 years, it's now adopted by many manufacturers (including Apple on the Apple Watch) and keeps growing. It's default on the flagship Android phone, with millions of accessories all over the place. Doesn't seem 'silly' at all.
My toothbrush has had inductive charging for even longer. So what?

Apple is rumored to be working on wireless charging without the requirement of placing your device on an inductive charging pad. You can be in the vicinity of the charging station with the device in your pocket, or strapped to your wrist, and you can be actively using the device.

Yes, it's going to seem silly that you had to magnetically attach a charging disc to the back of your Apple Watch, covering the sensors that it uses for biometrics. Ridiculous that you couldn't wear it as a sleep monitor. Unbelievable that you had to take the watch from your wrist for such a mundane task as charging it.

Yes, we already discussed this in previous posts, it's rumored that Apple is exploring this tech but not necessarily committed to using it, there are concerns about power efficiency and I'd add safety, "The iPhone maker is looking to overcome technical barriers including loss of power over distance with a decision on implementing the technology still being assessed, they said." It's not a done deal, so Apple may actually choose inductive as done in the Apple Watch for example.

Personally, I don't think inductive charging is worth doing for the iPhone. It's not ideal for the Apple Watch, but at least it eliminates the need for a communications port always available on the watch.

Well then no new iPhone this year for me. My 6S Plus will do it.

I may do the same. I love my 6 plus ( note not S) it had 128 gig and everything I need. I've had every iPhone since they were launched too but skipped 6s this time.

If it keeps going just can't see a reason to replace it.

Seen Nes Samsung yes looks ok but just gimmicks ini nothing new.

Apple need something really innovative and compelling to make me and I suspect many others change.

My wife had a 6s and she'd never used 3D Touch so enough with the gimmicks

Actually the same 'news' makes me *more* likely to get a 6s or 6s plus this year, rather than wait for the 7 - because I'd be coming up from the 5s. Been thinking of replacing soon, but if 7 isn't worth waiting for and 8 is too far away...

OLED, wireless charging, no headphone jack, dustproof, waterproof. If Apple doesn't jack the price up by another $200, this phone will be a steal :D

I've tried wireless charging, it doesn't work right, and really is just a useless gimmick

It's what's on the Apple Watch and works pretty well. No doubt it's not as nice as wired (same for networking), but it's still a pretty useful feature. If eventually we get to a standard we can have items like coffee/end tables built-in with wireless charging surfaces, kitchen counter tops, night stands, etc. Even the dash/cup holder of your car.

Why did you have to go and do that? Do I really need to explain why "wireless charging" is anything but, and why its current implementation is an unimaginative gimmick for people who buy things based on bullet points?
Its because that's all they have is worthless tripe!
I plug my phone into my iPad charger and it charges as fast as I need it to, probably as fast as the androids.
And plugging it into my lighting cord is something I don't mind doing once a day! The camera bump and the antenna lines, and oh the iPhone is ugly camp, well your not putting your phone in a case is lazy or stupid!
Oh and now our phone is water resistant too! In 9 years of ipphone usage water has never been an issue..
dropping it, even in its case killed my first iPhone 6! The people who complain about the iPhone need to get a life.

Couldn't care less about wireless charging, but come on, I own an iPhone 6s, but I've seen the Galaxy S7 Edge and that screen is miles ahead. Second, I find the design of the iPhone 6 en 6s a bit boring, they are just generic looking phones, nothing special.
I didn't buy the iPhone 6s for that exact reason. The upgrade wasn't worth it to me. Force touch is nice but it didn't warrant buying a new phone IMO.
