Needs a Job Title Change to Senior Speculator

Analyst are supposed to derive their information from FACTS not a gosh and a by golly.

For the first time I'm really not interested in the actual iPhone itself, I'm more interested in what iOS 7 will be like.

Sadly, I'm prepared to be disappointed.

"better camera"

How much better can these things get?

I'm not saying the iPhone camera is perfect, far from it, I just wonder how much room there is for improvement before we run into the limits imposed by the laws of physics (tiny sensors, tiny lenses).

It's amazing what the internet is doing to show who people like 'analysts' actually are.

An 'analyst' is simply someone who is able to look at a lot of information to decide what is going to happen. Now, we all have access to this information, and can become our own analysts. That didn't used to be the case just 5 years ago where only certain publications had this information, and you had to pay to get it, you had to pay to travel to talk with people, or your colleagues were the only ones who knew, and only you had easy access to things like earnings reports. Now, just simple web searches get a lot of this done as so much is put out on the web now.

Meh

I mean, why get excited?

A CPU revision? A few tenths of a millimeter shaved of the dimensions, a few grams lighter, a bump in the iOS version. Maybe larger screen that only fits one more row of the same sized icons, but 90% of apps are letter boxed anyways?

iPhone rollouts are becoming mundane and uninspired, almost comical really.

Until Apple does a complete UI revamp of iOS or some stunning design changes then I don't see why people should get excited about an iPhone release these days, and I don't understand why people would stand in line to replace their iPhone 5 with 5s on the day its released. Why buy a phone where everything just works the same way as the last iPhone you owned?

I want Apple to be innovative and ahead of the curve again, but lately they are not even playing catch up anymore. They seem to be lost in their own little reality field, you know, the same way RIM was when the iPhone was first released, just before they lost most of their marketshare.

Inspiration through apathy. If all there is to look forward from Apple is a watch, then they lost everything they have gained over the last 5 years.

I am really curious how Gene still has a job as an analyst. His track record is terrible. Most of us on this forum could probably do a better job at predicting Apple than this guy.

I'll play analyst real quick. Apple will release a new product within 2 years.

BAM!

I can't see Apple releasing a cheap iPhone just for the sake of it being cheap. As it's been stated "we don't ship junk." I think they have a great model as is for cheap iPhone's which is selling their older models the 4/4s.

I don't know what people are expecting from a cheap iPhone. Cheap is relative. The cheap iPhone would still likely cost $400-$500 without a contract. It won't miraculously be below $300 This is not really cheap when you can buy a 4/4S for less than that used.

And all these analysts are annoying as hell. Apple product cycle is now predictable. The only thing that would surprise anyone now is if they didn't release any products this year.

He just pulled it out of his azz.
My guesses would have been just as accurate.

Well it's almost April and we still don't have the iOS 7 Preview Event yet...June is kind of pushing it.

Gotta love how people just make "predictions" with absolutely no factual information. Who's giving these guys jobs?

If all there is to look forward from Apple is a watch, then they lost everything they have gained over the last 5 years.

Do you really think that putting a hunk of metal or plastic in your pocket to carry around is a good idea?

Cell phones are the first iteration of this mobile technology. Wearable technology is the next step. It will be watches, glasses, devices on the arm and eventually clothing. Eventually, a hundred years from now, implant technology, like tattoos and chips in your eyes/ears will be what people do. We have a long way to go, but carrying a hunk of metal or plastic in your pocket will seem old very soon.

You seem to be one of those old curmudgeons who don't want anything to change.

Google is going the glasses route, Apple is going the watch route. I think Apple is on the right track, as nobody is ready for glasses yet. But a watch is less obtrusive, and will be welcomed first.

I predict, in my most serious of intonations:

  • The new iPhone 5S will come out this summer with the possibility of it's release being delayed until the fall due to supply chain problems.
  • The 5S will feature a faster processor with an improved camera being a real possibility. Biometric security measures are more likely to be introduced with the iPhone 6, but Apple may choose an early introduction in order to remain competitive going forward.
  • The new 5S will fail to meet long time observers' expectations for innovation from Apple.

CNBC, Bloomberg, where's my paycheck? Do I have to put on a suit and act serious and confident to get paid? Or do I have to take money from the right people, aka prostitute myself to get a paycheck from you?

I've had every iPhone that has come out since the 3G, but I just don't seem to be getting excited for this next one. Guess I have other priorities nowadays.
