Absolute garbage.

Who the hell pays outright for a phone anyway.

Besides the X is like a few bucks more than what you’d pay for the latest maxed-out 6 Plus / 6S Plus when they were released - people got short memories.

Get your iPhone X now and stop the whining. Cry babies.

I just don't like the tall skinny aspect ratio of the X's screen. I much prefer the 5.5" screen aspect ratio and size. My 6s Plus on iOS 10.1.1 serves me well. I have an upgrade available, but will wait til next year. Maybe an iPhone 8 Plus at a reduced price. Or buy a new battery for my 6s Plus and not have to update to iOS 11, keeping my 32 bit apps and magic wallpapers I like. The animoji would be fun, but not for $1,000+.

Why are people responding to this report from unnamed sources as if it’s true? If iPhone X demand was that weak Apple would be releasing revised guidance for the holiday quarter. This year in fiscal Q2 (calendar Q1) Apple reported total iPhone sales of 50 million. In 2016 it was just over 51 million. According to this report from unnamed sources we’re supposed to believe Apple was forecasting 50 million units just for iPhone X? Which would mean either hardly any sales of other models or a sharp increase in sales YOY? The highest iPhone sales Apple ever reported in fiscal Q2 was 61 million (calender Q1 2015) so even if we assume Apple was forecasting a higher number than that believing this report would mean Apple was forecasting iPhone X to be over 80% of sales. On what planet does that make any sense?

Yeah. I can’t seem to justify the price even on contract. Although I really need to upgrade my iPhone 6s Plus as it’s literally falling apart. I’ll guess I have to wait for Apples next move otherwise I’ll have to get a Samsung

Well my sample of one (me), supports the view. I have had I think about 6 iPhones in a row (not to mention the ones I've bought for my wife and kids), and after 2 years with the 6s+ and Apple Watch, the X didn't do it for me (price, notch, no fps, no headphone jack, no plus size, and generally bored). I am one less customer that might have been expected by Apple. They've pushed things too far with this one. I glad many are happy with the X, but its not for me.

Good. I totally regret my X purchase. For me not worth the ridiculous price. Please don’t reply about returning. Past the window. Received on November 3rd. Best new iPhone should not cost $1,000 to start. Absurd.

There has also been so much attention around the $1,000 price tag. So for the very first time, people are taking a pause and thinking, do really need to spend this, right now?

Yeah... the $1,000 pricetag certainly got people's attention. But shouldn't they have been pausing and thinking about other prices?

$900 is a lot of money too. So is $800. Hell... some people think $700 is too much to spend on a phone.

Did people stop and think "do I really need a new phone?" when they bought their previous iPhones?

I understand people hate that Apple created an additional higher-tiered model above the already expensive iPhone product lines.

Then again... this is the device you will touch 50 times a day for the next 700+ days. It's the one thing you use more than any other thing in your life.

So yeah... this new model might cost $200 or $300 more than what you've ever spent on an iPhone before. But if it brings you joy every day for the next 2 or 3 years... it's really a small extra price amortized over that time.

Or you can buy the cheaper iPhone 8 instead of the X.

And just so we're clear... Samsung's flagship phone is $900 at the moment. I'm not really understanding why it's unfathomable to pay $1,000 for one phone... but $900 for some other phone is no problem.

There's not that much difference between $900 and $1000 when you consider the phone will be in your pocket for the next two years or more.

Could definitely see demand going down, I got mine for 699 used like new and am 90 percent sure I am selling it locally, probably will be able to make a little and call it a day, it’s a good phone but definitely not worth the asking price.. The emoji thing I’ve used once, the camera is nice but not worth the price tag, the phone is smooth but so was my 6S plus, and Face ID fails way too often unlike a touch ID.. One thing is true though, you really don’t notice the notch much after about a weeek

Edit- another annoying thing, Siri sure does mess up text to speech much much more often, is this iOS 11? My 6S plus running on iOS 10 hardly ever messed up text to speech... also the battery life is very similar to my one year-old 6S plus, I get about a day out of both, not worth it in my opinion

So color me confused but the Note is still in the 950 and 960 price range which with the 10 percent sales tax where I live pushes it to over 1000.00.

Yet the iPhone X which has all types of new camera sensors etc is priced too high? The only new change for the Note were the dual cameras which the iPhone 7 Plus already had.

I just see a bit of bias that’s all.

You will be passing on many of the future iterations. With Apple there is no bringing back old features.

Touch ID is dead.

Touch ID is so dead they put it in 2 of the 3 phones they brought out this year??.. sorry but Touch ID is not dead, not yet at least, and I prefer it over Face ID personally

use the camera on the x.

It’s good but not worth the price imo

You do know companies plan out product roadmaps way in advance.

The original plan was to release the X in 2018 but they were so far ahead they released it this year.

So in that respect if the 8 and 8 plus was already ready to go. It makes sense to me why they did it this way.

Touch ID will be dead next year if the rumored models come to fruition and I for one will welcome it’s death.

Yeah I understand that but I’m also 100% positive Touch ID is not dead yet, in 2018 they will sell multiple phones with it... once they perfect Face ID they might phase it out... but they definitely haven’t done that yet.. not even close.. I wish my X had it... I might want to keep it longer

One thing that has increased my hesitation to upgrade has been that upgrades used to be purely additive, meaning that new features were added but nothing lost. The last few years this has not been true: losing the headphone port, TouchID, no-burn-in screen, etc. I get that is the nature of technology, but it does make me revaluate upgrading the last few cycles. When you then push the price up as well, that was sort of a tipping point for me. I will upgrade eventually, but I still like having a headphone jack and TouchID (ideal phone would have TouchID, home button, and FaceID for me), so I don't want to pay $1000 to lose them.
So get an 8? What’s the problem?

Having Touch ID and Face ID is asinine. It’s redundant. The way forward is a virtual home button not a physical button.

I don’t see how they will be doing that considering the rumored lineup is making everything “bezeless” even the lcd model. I could be wrong but those mockups floating around show no home button.

I guess there is always the successor to the SE though.

First off, the Samsung phone you are comparing is a plus size and also has additional features like SPen... The S8 is a fair comparison.... much cheaper. And you have to add Applecare given a $549 bill to replace the Xs back. But, the Note 8 has also been discounted by $300 frequently.

Not asinine in the slightest. They serve different use cases to provide a better experience.

Hang on... I wasn't comparing the phones themselves.

It was simply an analysis of price psychology. For instance:

People lost their minds when Apple launched a new phone with a $1,000 price. OMG, what were they thinking?!?!?

But there are other phones that cost $900+ and nobody says a thing.

There's not much difference between those two numbers once you get up that high. That's all I was saying. :)

To be completely fair, the Note 8 had promos pretty much since launch. The Samsung store was giving $300 off if you traded in an LG G4 which you could pick up for $70, a Unidays discount, BOGO's from carriers and TMobile permanently reduced the price to $820. You never really had to pay the full price for it

It’s still 960 at Verizon and AT&T though regardless though for Apple it’s about the profit margin.

Samsung is no slouch either but both companies have different approaches.

It’s hard to justify dropping $1k+ for this when you’ll just be using the same iOS you were using before as others have stated. There’s no incentive.
I love that the X has the dual camera like the 7 plus and the same screen size without being so huge overall. And I like the Face ID. I bought the X on the Apple replacement plan so assuming the next version is a year away I’ll never actually pay the full price anyway.

We don’t have VAT here we have sales tax. Most big box retailers like Target and Best Buy stopped the gift card promo. Cheapest price I saw the Note was target which is 900.00 + 90.08 cents of sales tax paid at the same time.

I’m not sure how VAT works though in comparison to local sales tax we have in the states.
VAT is higher than average ST, so there's plenty of room for offers and deals.

Again, if you shop around, something that is generally much easier than with Apple products, you'll see Note 8 models fairly frequently for less.

IIRC the most popular deal site for the US is slickdeals.com, so that'd be an option to browse and spot deals that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Either way, price-wise the Note 8 easily roams in another league, especially because the price drops to healthier mid-price points a few more months in anyways. (just like most tech, except in Apple's understanding where if you try to buy a "current" Mac Mini in their stores it's - without sales - priced the same as ever before... Let that sink in.)

Touch ID is dead.

I would venture to guess samsing justifies the 950 price tag with the better camera + S-pen vs the Galaxy s8 plus (retail ~850)

I can only make one statement here, which is a worry for all those wishing for something to change.

I genuinely feel Apple, and their higher up people simply live in a different world to "normal people"
For them the $1000+ is nothing at all. Esp when they think it will be bought as a 2 year product by a consumer.

So in their distorted version of the world, they just think $12 a week (12 x 104 weeks) $1248
Or as Tim might think, hey it just $1.71 a day. Less than his daily coffee

Hey anyone who likes Apple can easy afford THAT.

I genuinely don't think their view of the world is going to be altered until sales went REALLY bad.

I don't understand that stance. Some people want choice. I do. I live an an area of extreme weather. Triple digits in the summer and Sub zero in the winter. I work in the desert and in the summer I often wear buffs and sunglasses to keep the dust out. I don't wear gloves so I can easily unlock my phone with my finger. In the winter I wear senstec gloves and I would prefer FaceID.

Give me the choice. If you don't want to use FaceID or touchID don't use it don't tell other people they can't use it. Your use case is not the only one, people use their devices a million different ways don't try to funnel them.

P.s An in screen fingerprint reader is a good compromise.
