No thanks.

My SE was $159. That’s my price limit for being in the cool, trendy club for having bought a artificiAlly limited and closed garden smartphone.

I’m beginning to realize that we’ve lost all ability at rational thought and instead let speculative “reports” dictate reality.

For all the “told you so” posters, will you be revisiting the thread after Apples next warning reports, were we at least get SOME data rather than supply chain analysts who run this same story every year?

You will be passing on many of the future iterations. With Apple there is no bringing back old features.

Touch ID is dead.

Craig Federighi “confirmed that Apple believes Face ID is the future of biometric authentication, with the caveat that there are settings where different biometric techniques or combinations of biometrics could make sense.”

So maybe not completely dead.

Its the price for me. I update every year but I have a hard time justifying the monthly price... I would not drastically change or improve my experience with the current iPhone.
Ouch. I threatened my household that their $300 iphone SEs (used) better last 3 years. I’m cheap.

they could have released a 7s and 7s plus which could have just added wireless charging

That doesn't exactly make sense. Because the iPhone 8 is a '7s' and it has wireless charging already. By Apple using the iPhone 8 Moniker, it gives the concept that's a new device over just the '7S.'

Something is unappealing about it at the price they’re asking. I went in two weeks ago to pick one up and just couldn’t get excited about it. Left with nothing but my 6s in hand.

I did exactly the same thing two weeks ago too.

I just need Apple to replace my battery (which they refuse to do after iOS 11 killed it) and remove the artificial slowdown, so that my 6s+ works liked it used to. Apple intentionally damaged my phone and the only option I have is to buy a new phone, to get back the performance Apple intentionally took away.

I hope they are destroyed in court. Evil needs to be slapped down hard.

It feels new because you just bought it, it is new. I upgraded from a 6 a few weeks ago to a 7+. The X just doesn't stand out to me in any fashion reasonable enough to drop $1000 on it.
Besides the newness, there are the actual improvements from what I had before. The new camera features alone are wonderful. I’ve taken photos with the X that would’ve been nearly impossible with my 6+.
Also, I was going to replace my old phone with a newer model this year anyway. My choices were the 8+ or the X, because I might keep this one 3 years like I did my last one. I didn’t have to justify the price of the X. I only had to justify the difference between the 8+ and the X. The better screen and Face ID were enough to make my mind up to go with the X.

I’ll pay $900 for a phone, but there’s no way I’ll pay $1000 that’s way too much.
I wouldn’t either. I got the iPhone X, which is more than a phone.

I can only speak for myself, I was planning on buying the new iPhone but the high price made me keep my 6S for another year. At the same time I realised that it is waste of money to buy a new phone every two years so I plan to keep my future phones for at least three years from now on. So there you go Apple, thats what you get with your high prices. But I am sure there are still enough people out there who will buy it even at these prices.

Don't get me wrong the iPhone X is a sweet piece of kit. If someone gave or bought me one I would willingly accept.

However, the X has had the opposite effect on me that Apple may have intended. I currently have iPhone 7, and by all accounts it is rock solid and serves all my needs. Because I will want the XII or XIII when they come out, I'm more determined than before the X's introduction to now keep my iPhone's a MINIMUM of 3 years and I'm playing with 4 or 5 years as well.

What was the point of carriers lowering plan prices if we were going to perpetually be in equipment servitude. Not me, not anymore. I'm breaking this vicious cycle starting now.

I’m guessing it has more to do with lack of Touch ID and that notch. Those are my reasons for passing on the X.
Face ID is fabulous and the notch is nothing troublesome to me after all. What saddens me is that the pwm flicker of the display means I can’t enjoy reading ebooks on my X. The flicker does not bother me too much, otherwise. I can play games and watch videos without too much strain on my eyes. But reading isn’t pleasant.

I do greatly appreciate the upgraded cameras. Sound is good, too. But I do need to keep my 7 Plus around for ebooks and that’s a bummer.

I disagree. I think they only released the 8, to justify the huge price jump on the X.

The X could have been a straight replacement for last years 7 plus, with a small price jump (say 50 bucks)

Alongside this, they could have released a 7s and 7s plus which could have just added wireless charging

This is the new Apple strategy at play. IPad Pro 9.5 did the exact same thing - which again could easily have been an iPad Air 3 for the same pricing

BINGO we have a winner!!! This is exactly what's going on!!!

Classic Apple stock manipulation tactics.

Apple never estimated shipping forecasts for next quarter at 50 million, although saying they did—and that Apple’s cut that to 30 million—sure sounds frightening.

Except it would have been glass because wireless charging does not work with phones made from aluminum.

The X would have never been a straight replacement for the 7 as the 8 was part of the pipeline. In face the X was supposed to have been released in 2018 but was released early.

I understand that folks want Apple to just sell everything for cheap while Samsung can price their Note 999.00 and that’s supposed to be okay.

I guess I missed the memo where Apple became a not for profit company and should destroy their margins and piss off shareholders just to make a small amount of users happy.

Don't need to be an analyst to come up with that :) I have not spoken to a single iPhone user who actually expressed desire to buy this off-sized price-monster. Young, younger, youngest (Age 16 - 45) in our quite large family (45 (21 iPhone users)) - all agree on one thing. In 2018 Apple will correct the iPhone X so that we can go buy it. As of now, no one wants it. And no wonder. This is the first phone from Apple which made me wanna go buy a Samsung.

Apple is now ran by old men who have zero idea of innovation. Without Steve Jobs - none of the current execs would have ever invented anything. And THAT is the problem at Apple today. Zero Invention but 100% repetition. And a CEO who either lacks taste or does not use his own products !

Not everyone can justify the price of the X as for many it’s overkill. It’s a very nice phone and certainly wouldn’t say no to one!

This is a flagship model and eventually features will trickle down the cheaper models as the X is a new tier of iPhone.

The reason might not be the iPhone X's $1000+ price tag, but rather any smartphone in that price range.

Cheaper phones from OnePlus, Xiaomi and Huawei are flooding the market in the $550-$650 price range.

So color me confused but the Note is still in the 950 and 960 price range which with the 10 percent sales tax where I live pushes it to over 1000.00.

Yet the iPhone X which has all types of new camera sensors etc is priced too high? The only new change for the Note were the dual cameras which the iPhone 7 Plus already had.

I just see a bit of bias that’s all.

Touch ID is dead.
The Note 8 can be had for 850 dollars including VAT in Germany.

Pretty sure that with a little shopping around you'll easily find the Note 8 for less in the USA which underprices - VAT/ST included - German prices all the time.

Heck, get cheap gift cards for a store selling it and you're coming out ahead.

Applicable coupons will often be a thing too, Apple products are frequently exempt from coupons. They are in the same league as gift cards and resale price fixed items.

About the Touch ID: it's true that Apple hates bringing back tech they no longer believe in.

They always know better of course and as customer of the folks in Cupertino you're screwed as soon as the sole supplier of official hardware doesn't fancy your personal needs anymore.

One size fits most, usually... Hopefully.

Until the people don't buy anymore. Then it becomes alive quite rapidly. There might have been a day where Apple would not bring back older stuff. But given the fact that they don't innovate anymore and produce software on par with Microsoft, in terms of Quality, that day is IMO has gone.

Apple's marketshare in smartphones hasn't been rising the past years. It has been shrinking. And please mind that there are other countries on the planet than the US that make up the world and its population.

We don’t have VAT here we have sales tax. Most big box retailers like Target and Best Buy stopped the gift card promo. Cheapest price I saw the Note was target which is 900.00 + 90.08 cents of sales tax paid at the same time.

I’m not sure how VAT works though in comparison to local sales tax we have in the states.

Anyone surprised by this? I have the X and I like it a lot, but I don't think a lot of people will find the price tag to be justified. Now, if this is the X Plus, then maybe.
Would the X Plus really be justified at $1,099/$1,249 ($100 increase) or $1,199/$1,349 ($200 increase)? I think a decrease for all models would be justified.
