With the announcement of the upcoming Mac App Store just a few hours old, Australian game studio Firemint has already announced that they will be delivering their award-winning game Flight Control to the Mac. They released the above screenshot which is said to be an actual screenshot of Flight Control HD running on a Mac.

Flight Control is an original iOS game that was released onto the App Store in March 2009. The game was a hit, selling millions of copies. It has since been ported to PlayStation Move and Nintendo DSi. The move to the Mac is natural given the common development tools between iOS and Mac OS X development. Still, it marks the first announcement of what we expect to be many in the lead-up to the launch of the Mac App Store.

Ummmm....like isn't the touchscreen the main tool for the game? How hard would this be to play...especially when the level gets intense?

Us folks who frequent these forums at MacRumors also find Mac gems like 1Password, SuperDuper!, Ripit etc. The average Mac user? Not so much.

Big programs like Photoshop and Office will always be found sold online and in stores, not via the Mac App store, but wow what a brave new world for the independent developers, the best of which develop for Mac! So many folks who have no time or idea of even how to find gems will now see them front and center, further strengthening the Mac platform and invigorating the developer community.

Very, very excited.

Ah well. Guess we'll be seeing more of the same before anything unique and innovative comes specifically to the Mac App store. I'm sure this time next year Steve will be up on stage gushing about how they've just hit 2 billion app downloads for the Mac.

Anyway I like the 11 incher (that's what she said yawn), very portable and I'd rather THAT laying on my coffee table than an iPad (yes, yes they're different experiences blah blah).

As a non-app developing casual Apple user, it's been a pretty good day. :)

Mmm...

I guess this means the crapware WILL be coming to OS X. :(

My biggest concern is what price premium will they charge?

The standard angry birds is .99 cents. Angry Birds HD, which is the same except takes up the whole screen on the iPad, is 4.99. If they bring it to the Mac app store how much would it be? 4.99 or would they charge an even greater premium.

Odd, I wonder if this will even be fun. I can only imagine drawing the plane tracks with a mouse but it wouldn't be so fun with a trackpad.

I'd suggest folks boycott the Mac App Store and send companies like this emails letting them know you won't contribute to Apple's lockdown of OS X.

Who's locking down what now? Will people stop wetting themselves over this?

Where exactly does the lockdown occur?

This. Is. Huge. The first program I ever ran was on punch cards on an Amdahl with cards I punched myself. With Lion, Apple has transformed the relationship between software developer and user. Developers win. Apple wins. Consumers win. Huge. Can't wait for the report from 2012 Back to Mac event.

This will totally work for anything with a trackpad.

Imagine that you leave your fingers on the trackpad, lightly. They show up as fuzzy dots on the screen. You see them but they do nothing. When over the plane you push harder and they lock on to the plane and you've grabbed it.

Your fingers never leave the pad and you see indications of where you "are" 100% of the time.
Honestly this could be BETTER than the iOS version because your fingers won't be blocking the screen!

(In other news, that stand-alone trackpad just became useful all of a sudden.)

You should leave this mac site. Maybe you'll enjoy Ubuntu forums, or Windows forums more? You obviously are too busy spewing politics to just sit back quietly and enjoy the products. As a successful indie developer I can tell you I worship the ground Apple walks on for the opportunities they're providing to indies with their distribution services.

This Mac App Store will be even more groundbreaking than repositories were for Linux.
