If it's good, then this is good news. If it's not, then like all bad apps, it will disappear into the pool of other bad apps.

Nothing to worry about in my opinion.

Edit: pmjoe.... no developer HAS to use the Mac App Store...

well this game is fun for like three seconds then its lame.

Its great to hear more games for mac, but I don't want the future of mac gaming, to be casual.

I want mass effect series, and crysis 2, and swtor, modern warfare 2 and 3.

These games are nice for the dashboard, but I really do not want this to be the future of mac gaming! Hell! I don't even want this to be the future of ios gaming! the processing power is in our macs and ios devices. So I want advanced, in depth, hard core games, for mac os, and ios.

10.7 is just preparing us for the touch screen Macs that will ship with OS 11 in a few years.

Like it or not, Mac OS has officially begun morphing into a touch based UI.

Any resistance is futile.

The Mac App Store will be a hit.

I'm DREADING it.

No one's forcing you to use it. It's just an option. You can still download apps the old fashioned way. I, for one, think this could add HUGE momentum to the Mac, encouraging developers to make even more options available for Mac users. Thus, more people will see the Mac as a viable option.

Even more fun

Odd, I wonder if this will even be fun. I can only imagine drawing the plane tracks with a mouse but it wouldn't be so fun with a trackpad.

So do it with a mouse. Can we assume that the developer will write a decent port?

Except Jobs said touchscreen laptops are not going to happen.

The Mac App Store will likely be reserved for casual games such as the one in this news post. If you want games with more substance and major releases then use Steam for Mac.

will this eventually compete with steam? or will they just live together peacefully, and both have the same games available

edit: oh! see above. you posted just before i did

True, but those iMac touch screen patents make me think otherwise.

Besides, he denies a lot of stuff.

BTW, nice username. :)

my main concern is though, os x will get flooded with casual games, and when people talk about "games" on os x. they will be talking about the mac app store games.

I don't want developers and gamers to see OS X as tons of stupid casual games for the non-gamer to entertain themselves.

Don't get me wrong casual games have there place, But I don't want mac os x to get labeled the way ios is.

is there any chance that 10.7 will give us better open gl, or another form of graphics improvement?

Why would the amount of casual games be of any concern to you personally? If developers want to make casual games they will and if developers want to make deeper full fledged games they will. That's that. No use crying over it. Macs have had practically nothing but casual games up until Valve stepped into the scene and those fart apps people are joking about? They exist already too. Just no one pays any attention to them.

As for better OpenGL support, it's almost a given at this point that the performance will improve as gaming matures on Mac OS X. Anyone who thinks it won't improve is a fool.

My biggest concern is what price premium will they charge?

The standard angry birds is .99 cents. Angry Birds HD, which is the same except takes up the whole screen on the iPad, is 4.99. If they bring it to the Mac app store how much would it be? 4.99 or would they charge an even greater premium.

My guess is many of these developers will do universal apps, in the same vein as an iPhone/iPad app.

I'm picturing download once content for all your Apple devices. Download your twitter client and you automatically the system specific version installed and synced and updated across all platforms. Gotta love integration.

So apple cannot go head to head with windows 7 and this is the best they can do; IOS apps on a full blown Mac OS. Mac OS; home of 100 fart apps.

My predictions

Wow to start off, some of you haters really lack any type of foresight or intelligence. You would have been the types that were working at IBM way back when they were making statements like "who would ever want a PC in their home?"

Anyways.... I see very complex and useful apps coming out of the Mac app store. What I could see happening frequently are super feature rich desktop applications and then the mobile iPad/iPhone versions getting bundled as more of added bonuses/extensions to the main app. I know my father would crap himself if a super in depth topography/trail hiking app came out, which featured bonus mobile versions to take your planned trekking exploits with you on the go for example. Anyone else follow?
