Oh aren't you clever with A RUMOR to defend a fact
Yes a RUMOR that came straight out of Redmond. Last I checked no one is forcing anyone to use this Mac App Store. Nor is anyone forcing you to buy the games. So get over yourself.

Why would the amount of casual games be of any concern to you personally? If developers want to make casual games they will and if developers want to make deeper full fledged games they will. That's that. No use crying over it. Macs have had practically nothing but casual games up until Valve stepped into the scene and those fart apps people are joking about? They exist already too. Just no one pays any attention to them.

As for better OpenGL support, it's almost a given at this point that the performance will improve as gaming matures on Mac OS X. Anyone who thinks it won't improve is a fool.

I understand, Mac gaming has stared to build up momentum in the past couple months, and I was worried it would shift to casual gaming, and that all the great new Mac games like civ 5, starcraft2, portal 2, and such will drown in a flood of casual apps.
But I think you are right, and I am just paranoid.

Do you think apple will ever go above and beyond better open gl support? Like make something like directx, or work with gaming developers more agresively

DirectX is just a bunch of API's, developing the games on the Mac isn't the problem it's just the driver support that's still a little wonky at the moment.

I'd suggest folks boycott the Mac App Store and send companies like this emails letting them know you won't contribute to Apple's lockdown of OS X.

it's not a lock down it is another place for people to find programs for mac besides the browser.

You can and always will be able to download other programs from a browser or cd that hasnt been approved or checked by apple.

Who's locking down what now? Will people stop wetting themselves over this?

There were several apps by blizzard, that had to get on there some how... Maybe an angry bridge troll put them there...

I think this is a good opportunity and I get more excited for 10.7, but between other distribution outlets and jail breaking the Mac will never be locked down, when apple does that they put a ceiling on the walled garden and kill the garden... Internet, CD, DVD, thumb drives, and the list keeps going, this isn't a lockdown at all.

So if one in five pc's sold are a Mac, and growing. In theory this train of Mac games will keep going?

Someday will I be able to see new big title releases being released for Mac and pc at the sametime, like mass effect 3, mw3, future crysis titles, future fallout titles.

OH MAH GAWSH

Apple is releasing an optional App Store for Macs!!!111!!

We're doomed!!one!!!!

We can no longer compile our own software! Oh wait, we can.

Well, we can't install system hacks any more! Oh wait, we can.

But I like installing apps from .dmg files! Oh wait, I still can.

But most importantly, I loved spending all day every day explaining to new Mac users on the forums how to install apps from disk imagines instead of some sort of one step installer. Dammit, what else am I going to do with all of my free time now?

But the good news is that Mr. Jobs controls the apple store and no others. He can keep his hands off anything windows or google related. The fall of apple is upon us with watered down apps for portables on a full OS. What innovation.

Cool story bro. I guess you think every piece of software ever written for Windows and Android is a masterpiece.

I'm not a fortune teller but I'd say yes to expecting larger titles hitting the Mac when they come out for Windows, ie expect a lot more simultaneous releases.

Crapware has always existed for the Mac. The only difference now is that Apple will be shoving it in your face.

I a pretty sure it will be an optional download for snow leopard but will come standard in lion. Have fun staying in snow leopard

Mmm...

I guess this means the crapware WILL be coming to OS X. :(

There is PLENTY of "crapware" for OS X already, only now it will be eaiser to download and install. :)

I'd suggest folks boycott the Mac App Store and send companies like this emails letting them know you won't contribute to Apple's lockdown of OS X.

Seriously people GET A GRIP! Nobody is forcing you to use the App Store.

Sure Apple is putting some restrictions in the App Store, and they have that right, but if a developer makes a program and Apple rejects it, they can simply make it available for download on their web-site JUST LIKE THEY DO NOW.

Nothing is changing, except we are getting a new (and easier) way to get Apps.

Oh for Christ's Sake !

I'm out.

This has become the death of Mac.

**** News Flash !! Pacman Mobile now availabile on OSX !!! ****

OMG Were Doomed! Let me go buy a PC now!

But seriously from the article it seems that this is a standard iOS version of Flight Control running on a Mac. Thats gonna suck. As long as Developers make apps designed for use on a Mac then the App store should be great, if it is full of iOS apps that happen to run on the Mac then I think I'll stick to .DMGs :)

Ok. How about this: Don't click the App Store icon in the dock.

Too hard? How about this: Remove the App Store icon from the dock.

Thank goodness! The tyrannical reign of our evil overlord has been brought to an end!

Except Jobs said touchscreen laptops are not going to happen.

A traditional laptop, one with screen and trackpad, will not have a touchscreen. That doesn't mean there won't be touchscreen Macs, though. They are clearly moving that way.

My prediction, as stated in an earlier thread, is that we'll have some sort of touchscreen tablet within 12-18 months. They just showed with the Air that they can build a low end Mac as though it is an iPad. In fact, replace the 11.6" panel with a touchscreen one, remove the keyboard and trackpad, and you could build yourself a 0.68" thick tablet Mac with 10.7. A MacBook Touch.

iPad 3 revision is a likely target given the scheduled release date of 10.7 and when the 3rd gen iPad will be due for a refresh (assuming Apple usest a once a year release, similar to iPhone)

Apple would have to do some serious reworking of UI elements to be able to have a Tablet mac. All of the Human Interface Guidelines on OSX are based around keyboard/mouse control, as opposed to the iPhone/iPad HIG which are based around finger touches which are much less precise.

If you take OSX and add an app store, home screens, and change all the apps to be full screen with large touch elements, why not just use an iPad?

Sorry, but I totally disagree. I'm very excited for the Mac App store :)

just not going to be the same, scrolling around on a touchpad. The iPad will rule for touch related games. Larger screens, touch pads and faster processors will cause an evolution of different Apps for the Mac line.

I for one welcome the Mac AppStore as what it is:
Finding good software for primitive tasks that actually works and is reasonably priced, e.g. I've been having a hard time recently to extract audio from DVDs. And mind you I bought those DVDs. Therefore it should be a no-dealer, that I can use the DVD audio with my iTunes library.

Currently I'm not in the mood to shell out 29 bucks on something, MacUpdate has 2 reviews on. Especially not, when the old OSex + mac3dec combo still works on most DVDs.

So for this tiny problem the Mac App store really is a solution (as for gazillion other simple tasks, your Mac just won't do though you'd really like it).

No one's forcing you to use it. It's just an option. You can still download apps the old fashioned way. I, for one, think this could add HUGE momentum to the Mac, encouraging developers to make even more options available for Mac users. Thus, more people will see the Mac as a viable option.

Agreed.Just look at it from the perspective of an average consumer curious potential switcher:
Easy to use
Fantastic iLife suite
No trialware
no virus' so far
low maintenance(scandisk,registry,defrag)
attractive design
cool stuff like expose and the new launchpad(and automatic updates!)
Ultra easy way to find and purchase useful apps and games

One more reason the market share momentum is all Apple.

And judging by the way developers have avoided the App store like the plague(not),The App store's terms seem pretty attractive to many.Of course on the Mac,where a dev can go either way, they may find it's not for them.It will be very interesting to see which they prefer.

Either way The Mac app store is something I've wanted since the iPhone app store was announced.
Can't
Wait.

So let me get this straight....

If I own an iPhone (which I do), and Mac (which I do), and an iPad (which I don't yet), i'm going to have to pay 3 times to use the same (insert desired app name here) on each device?

Oh :apple: you slay me.

True, but those iMac touch screen patents make me think otherwise.

Besides, he denies a lot of stuff.

BTW, nice username. :)

True.He only said vertical touchscreens suck and I agree.
