I don’t really agree with this. If that’s the way you’re viewing it then it should be anyone paying installments for their device that’s able to upgrade at 12 months. I really don’t think IUP customers should get any special treatment.
I do feel that getting pre approved is fair, it also, Apple seems to not have gone live on time and the store was opening at different times for everyone. That needs to be fixed so all you IUP folks have a fair chance too.

Not exactly because people who are on installments with the carrier have the ability to upgrade to any phone, not just the iPhone. I'm just thinking from Apples point of view, but yes the store should be opened at the same time for everyone at a minimum.

I would rather hit refresh on Apple's desktop site versus having to force close and reopen the Apple store app over and over again. Not sure how anyone could argue against that. I used both methods along with AT&T's desktop site and app and the Apple desktop site allowed me to order first at 3:05 am EST with 11.3 shipping.

If you were pre-approved on Apple's IUP you were forced to use the Apple app to check out.

The issue is that by using the iPhone upgrade program, you are now beholden to Apple. You can't upgrade at Best Buy, Verizon, Costo, etc. The promise is that you can upgrade at 12 months, but this is the second year in a row they have failed to deliver on it. Many people were able to order from Verizon earlier than Apple, and the IUP users are the bread and butter of Apple's crop- we spend the most on phones and they make a ton of money after the 1 year turn in mark off of our used phones. Keep in mind that a class action lawsuit was filed last year, and many of us who originally got screwed ended up getting the phone we wanted on time.

Don’t get me wrong, I truly truly feel badly for the horrible experience you guys have had for two years now. I don’t think it’s fair. I wish the app would have behaved better for you all. I’m sure they will reimburse the additional payments you all may have to make.

I was able to get a reservation in for my phone, and seconds later I got in to order my wife's phone. I chose this time around to do the iphone upgrade due to the prohibitive repair costs. Not so much because I intend to upgrade each year.

Anyway, I got further with my wife's phone, and was able to actually submit the application for the iup program, but a system error prevented it from being processed. It said to not place a new order, and that I would get an email to confirm the details within 8 hours.

4 hours later, I got an email from Apple that said the application failed.

Kind of pissed. My reservation was able to be processed and I got a Nov 3 delivery date. My wife's was supposed to be Nov 10-17, but since I had to replace the order, she's looking at mid-december.

I don't understand how a technologically advanced company like Apple still can't get their **** together for these things.

EDIT - No sooner did I post this, I got an email from Apple saying their records indicate that I had a failed application and that they would like to help get me the iPhone as quickly as possible. They asked that I respond with my status (if I placed a new order, to let them know the order number or if I did not place a new order, to do so and then reply with the order number).

I replied, so we'll see what happens!

I was force quitting and reopening the app from 11:59:30 through probably 12:10 AM and it didn't do any good. Ultimately it wasn't until I got up to go grab my iPad (leaving my iPhone open on the store app for ~45 seconds) that it actually loaded the store around 12:15. I'm on the upgrade program which HAD to be completed in the app, not online. The website was up at like 12:05 so a lot of the Nov 3 deliveries got drained out that way I'm sure.

*sigh* Nov 17 can't come soon enough. So annoying that the upgrade program people get screwed for a second year.
Makes me wonder if the ability to order at 12:01 is based on your location. Maybe they prioritize people in the locations that have the highest order density due to lower shipping costs. I assume it’s cheaper to ship 100,000 phones to NYC than to ship 10,000 to 10 different cities up and down the length of California.

So if you’re not in a major metropolitan area, maybe they artificially keep you from ordering until they know you won’t be in the first batch, thereby allowing them to gang together more orders in your area.

I found you didn't even have to force close the app. Just cycling home button and app worked for me. I went too fast for my wife's phone though... I cycled too quickly and missed that the store app was working... Closed it too quick. Opened it back up, and it was back to the splash screen.

This was the email I got.

None of the channels worked for me for about 10 minutes:rolleyes:, after a few reloads i managed to get through the App Store on the iPad. Thankfully i checked out via my :apple: payment account and got a confirmation at 8.12.

I completely agree with this. IUP is supposed to be most convenient, most Apple way. But for the 2nd year it caused many including myself issues. I couldn’t get in the app for 15 mins and shipping was already at 2-3 weeks. Meanwhile I stared at Verizon from 250am seeing I could preorder in two seconds. It was maddening. I wound up getting launch day at Verizon AFTER doing my IUP. So now I have two for same line. Hoping to get shipping confirm from Verizon then cancel Apple.

And I tracked it...Verizon had launch day supply up until about 345!! Where Apple was already at several weeks. Then around 350 Verizon slipped to one week out - still better than Apple.

Long story short is that it’s screwed up that carriers have more supply than even Apple but it’s obvious they get larger allocations. Probably part of agreement. Thus, if you’re forced to order through Apple like IUP, it’s actually a disadvantage. I’m done with it.

So many people having problems with preordering via Apple Store app and using Apple Pay! I was totally expecting it. This is what happens when you tell millions of people that "the Apple Store app is the best and quickest way to preorder" and that "you can guarantee getting iPhone X on Nov 3rd".

The website went live for me at 8:08am and the app was still down till 8:25am. The website actually went live earlier for many people and the app was still down. That was expected because the website had to deal with less load this time.

Yes, the Apple Store app is still the most convenient and easiest way to shop for Apple products, but NOT when you have millions of people hammering it at the same time. Thank god I had my Mac and PC on the Apple Store website, and didn't put all my eggs into one basket!

Also, people had trouble paying with Apple Pay, again it was expected.

Tip for next year's pre-order - don't use the Apple Store app and don't use Apple Pay! Let millions of people hammer it and believe they can guarantee an iPhone delivery on launch day by using the app, just open the website, place your order and get a quicker delivery!

I had both options prepared. Ended up unexpectedly being faster via web on my iphone. Right after that was finished i was able to complete a second order with different color through the app on my iPad. Now I have 2-3 weeks for both. Can decide whether i return one or resell it.

Wow that's awesome! I guess Apple has a lot more stock than anyone expected
Maybe...

I think they hold some stock aside for order errors though. They were really having trouble connecting to AT&T servers that night, so I think people in my same boat were probably offered something similar.
