Two words: Android fanboy. Absolutely sickening.

1) It doesn't compare. Navigon and TomTom kick Google's free navigator system to the curb.

2) It's not Apple's fault. It's AT&T's. Blame them.

3) Yes. It does. Android's version of multitasking is crap. I seriously need a Task Manager? Yes. Do I really need that game running in the background? No. Can I switch between apps as fast as Apple's fast-switch multitasking method? No. Do I conserve battery life? No way. So yes, it's "done the right way."

4) Who cares? I'm sure there's an app similar to it already in the App Store, which has far more high-quality apps than Android.

5) Flash = battery sucker, CPU hog, annoying ads, etc. Forget it.

The antenna issues is way overhyped. There have been many tests where the person will conduct the "Death Grip," but somehow, the call still goes through? And in the tests where it failed? There was very little AT&T coverage. Apple accidentally made it look like there was more bars in that area, when in actuality, it was less than one. As for the build quality of the Nexus One verses iPhone 4? Nexus One loses miserably.

These arguments of Android vs. iPhone are also ridiculous. There is no true winner, only personal preference.

If you're going to be this annoying, you may quietly leave. :apple:

Steve?

if you go off your route and there is no data connection, does it automatically re-calculate your route?

Offline Maps, very important.

You realise that is for the quarter ending in may right? it is not including the iPhone 4. Think we'll see a massive difference the end of this quarter.

To be sure the iPhone 4 will improve apple's number for the next quarter, but I will go out on a limb and state that android's upward trend will continue.

What I would like to see (and I doubt we'll see this level of granularity from apple or AT&T) is statistics regarding new iPhone 4 owners vs. current iPhone owners upgrading. I suspect that a large (possible a majority) group of iPhone owners upgraded. My point with that,is the comscore numbers will not show an increase in the iPhone statistics if much of the sales were the result of upgraders.

Someone posted a link to this article here earlier in this thread, but one thing that really jumped out at me that I felt relevant to this thread is this:

This is a characteristic that in not unique to Apple. It's more a reflection of their massive ranks of fanboys.

I'm looking forward to Android 3.0 (Gingerbread). I read that a certain minimum spec requirement is needed to run it. Even the SE Xperia X10 and Motorola Milestone XT720 may not be compatible because one either lacks the RAM or the CPU speed. Nexus One, HTC Desire, HTC Evo, and the Motorola Droid X look good to go for Gingerbread. I hear the UI is going to be pretty slick, especially with the ex-Palm (webOS) designer on Google's team now.

I want a Nexus One even though I know it may no longer be the best Android phone out right now. Love the name. This will be Google's first and last branded phone. There will be no Nexus Two. I can only hope for a price drop. $529 is just too steep. But give credit to the HTC and Google. This device was released six months ago and it can still hold its own. I like that N1 comes unlocked and it is more *rare*... This is Google's one and only. A collector's item someday.

I don't get this "android UI is not intuitive" stuff. Both my sisters recently moved from Nokia/SE to Android (low end samsung androids). Both love their new phones and neither of them ever picked up the user guide to figure out anything on the phone.

They are not Geeks (they can connect to wifi and browse/send email) so don't use that argument. The Android UI is fairly simple. It only gets complicated when you start to do some fancy stuff.

One of the advantages that made the iPhone great was the idea That it "just worked" that has since changed with IP4

MYy wife got her iPhone 4 earlier this week and its been nothing but a source of frustration. She is now ready to return it and get a different phone that just works

Apple needs to fix the list of outstanding problems on the IP4 or they'll start seeing a higher occurrence of returns

Btw the phone she's considering that just works. The incredible. She's no apple or android fanboy. She wants a problem free phone. She's not getting that with apple so she'll go to android for that ease of use high quality phone

Yeah, it's nonsense propagated by the apple zealots.

They can't attack the OS based on its feature set, so they say it's not "intuitive"... which is completely impossible to quantify in the first place, so they know they're on safe ground.

But that's fanboys. they need binary oppositions... if their phone is easy to use, the other phone must be geeky. And if their phone was geeky, the other phone would be for simpletons.

Excellent post!

I'm in the same boat. I replaced my wife's 3Gs with an iP4, now she's unhappy. I pre-ordered three of them for my family in good faith, trusting Apple. She's not a tech person, she just wants a smartphone that works. So when her iP4 began giving her trouble from day one, she immediately reached out to see what her girlfriends preferred. What surprised me was they told her they loved the HTC Incredible. We hadn't talked about phones for awhile, since most of her friends only care that it works, not what brand it is. The last time we talked about it, they were all using iPhones. Well, apparently that changed when some of them had the same buggy iPhone 4's we do.*

So true.

I've been using Android since before most Apple fanboys knew what it was. Now on my fourth model, I'm impressed with the platform. Currently I'm running Froyo on an Incredible and it's fun, fast, & stable. I've got a Droid X reserved & I'm looking forward to it.

I switched from AT&T iPhone for 2 years to the HTC Incredible. I love the phone, love the service even more. Having coverage again. 3G EVERYWHERE! No dropped calls in a couple of months. But I must admit that I am a techie and love the openness of the platform. I can do many things that simply cannot be done with Apple's walled garden.

I generally think the UI is more similar than not to Apple's, so I find the blanket statements about intuitive or not to be overly judgemental. In reality its all shades or gray. Android has come a long way very quickly. The Incredible is one of the new set of phones that exceeds the iPhone in some ways while still lagging in others.

The phone is wicked fast. Browsing on Verizon's network is so fast, I often forget if I'm on WiFi or not. Easy to rack up many GB of data usage.

For someone who wants a phone that just works, you may still have some issues with the Incredible. In general, I've found the platform to be exceedingly stable. Rarely does the phone or any built in app crash. I used an iPhone 4 for 30 minutes at a store and Safari crashed. BTW, I have an iPod touch running iOS4. The email client in particular gives me heartburn that is it 90% of the way there, but lacks some needed features like push email or easy access to Yahoo mail. Unlike the iPhone, most system applications can be replaced or augmented. I use K-9 for email. It handles almost all of my needs but does not support copying text from an email.

Give the Incredible a try. The less of its features you use the less likely to get frustrated. It is easy to create unintended problems. There are a lot of capabilities and features present. Ease into them slowly as you get comfortable w the phone. In particular, task managers are an urban legend. They should generally not be used. If you think you need one you're doing something wrong.

Google can't design their way out of a paper bag. That's why no matter what larger camera or tech spec Google shoves into their derivative mobile products, they'll never match the synergy Apple achieves between hardware+software.

Which is why no single Android phone has ever come close to outselling Apple's one or at most, two phones. Google has to flood the market with all manner of flotsam and jetsam in order to post growing market share numbers.

Their whole strategy reminds me of the old Winblows Mobile platform.

Another Apple suckup !!!!! Google is just getting started and their philosophy isn't if the big boss says you don't need it then you don't.

You are confused LTD. Google isn't flooding any market with "all manner of flotsam and jetsam in order to post growing market share numbers". Its partners in the Open Handset Alliance are which has lead to the likes of HTC earning higher profits and seeing increased sales thanks to the platform.

I don't know what experience you have with Android but the platform and hardware it runs on has evolved and in some aspects can outperform the newer competition, and even with the dreaded flash plugin it matches (at best) the iPhone 4 in browser speed.

It's this kind of horce race that keeps pushing either platform forward and as a consumer I am seeing the benefits in both platforms.

I don't know what you would have Google do with the platform but locking it down to a single hardware-set and complete control over the software isn't what Android is about.

They've been "getting started" for like three years now! And Eric was at the meetings!

Time to change their "philosophy." The whole "open" thing is kinda failing to impress. But it sure is great for flooding the market with all kinds of fragmentation.

Windows Mobile: Google likes their strategy. They like it a lot.

I do not understand why some folks are so intent on bashing Apple's competition. It's not like anyone is forcing you to buy an Android phone. If you don't like it, don't buy it, but to say it sucks just because it's not Apple is utterly ridiculous.

How's This !!!! A Facetime app that only works on wifi between 2 iPhones,at least you should be able to videochat between a iMac or Macbook but Jobs didn't think we needed it.

Lol at the op saying the android os is dated unlike ios, excuse me but the iPhone os is basically 3 years old, not Much has changed and you can't even customise it unless you jailbreak, it hasn't got true multi-tasking, it's not any faster than the latest android phones.

Android market is also in some ways even better than the iPhone app market, it is open, you can get a refund in the 1st 24hr, and now most of the useful apps are now on both the iPhone and android phones.

Wait until FaceTime is released as an open standard. I'd guess it ends up everywhere and personally would love to see it added to my Dell Streak via an app or otherwise so that I could use it with my iPhone owning friends.

Apple & Open Standard do not mix,it's either or.

You fanboys are ridiculous :) To devote so much emotion into a phone its really pathetic. Its a phone man let go alittle. Alot of you either need a dog or a girlfriend badly. A phone plagued with issues and created by a dictator who controls what you do with hardware you payed for. Then BS s you about ANY issue as if its not important and consumers are just crazy. Good luck with that. Not talking to anyone imparticular so you'll be exposing yourself if this offends you. Good day.

You android fanboys do the same thing as well. So take your own advice and use it.
