Holy smokes! Android has really come so far so fast. One out of every 3 smartphones sold today has the Android operating system on it!

Android is like a tremendous machine that keeps getting faster and faster and faster.

4 out of 5 people who own android want to get something different. Crappy apps and lame home screen customization is not THAT cool ppl.
Source please.

Sounds like you're just talking out of your backside on this trying to justify apple's marketshare slippage.

Satire? Comedy? 4 out of 5 people like what? Source please. :) Now if Apple started adding widgets to iOS, I wonder how crappy home screen customization would be then. :)

Anyway, I'd say it's AT&T + Apple that paved the way for Android to be where it is now for the US. Had the iPhone been on all carriers, Android wouldn't be anywhere as popular as it is now.

Fanboi? I'm leaving the iPhone for the Droid X.

did you even read the OP? You're wrong.

NPD's latest wireless market research reveals that Android accounted for 33 percent of all smartphones purchased in Q2, ahead of RIM (28 percent) and Apple (22 percent).

Since I see you have no clue what you're talking about I'll help you out. Android sold more smartphone in Q1 and Q2 then Apple and Rim but Rim is still the marketshare leader in the US an Apple is in second place

This is an imaginary epic battle that matters very little to most of us.

I don't really care whether Google or Apple wins the battle, because just like how I switched from many things Microsoft to Apple, I have no reason not to switch to another superior product.

Android has yet to establish itself as superior product, and plus my upgrade each year pays for itself with the sale of previous model, making it pointless for me to invest on another product.

The war isn't over just yet but Apple needs to start releasing iPhones on Verizon very soon. A 4 inch iPhone screen option wouldn't hurt either and some of the features (live wallpapers, widgets, customization, FM radio) of Android wouldn't hurt. It would give people less of a reason to move.

I think most people are moving to Android because its different. iOS is still better overall--but the look and feel is pretty stale at this point. I have a feeling Apple is going to be slow to change now that they are in a rut.

Did you even read the OP? Android was shipped more than iOS. The title seems pretty accurate to me.

The problem is that it's only part of the story.

This is only talking about the number of phones sold in Q2
This is not an indication that there are still far more iOS devices sold overall (total market penetration)
These numbers are just before the iPhone 4 launch so iPhone 4 sales are not included in these numbers

The numbers I pay attention to are what the actual market penetration is. Sales numbers from quarter to quarter can be extremely misleading.

I'm not an iPhone fanboy, but I have to admit that the Android fanboys are getting a bit ahead of themselves on this one. At the same time, if Android doesn't eventually outsell iPhone 4 with a large selection of phones on several carriers vs the iPhone on one, something is wrong. It should be a given that Android will eventually outsell iOS devices given the current situation.

When Apple starts giving phones away for free and starts coming out with 100 new phones per month, this will matter. Until then, Android is behind the iPhone in reality.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

So Android MIGHT become the next (or first?) "Windows OS" of the mobile world. Sounds good for the Google, but not nessasarily bad for Apple.

But in my humble opinion, a single mobile OS reaching 90% dominance is unlikely. Microsoft is too big and rich to sit on their a** forever, CrackBerry has it's addicts to feed, Nokia (remember them?) is still the world leader in total number of smartphones, and Apple, dear 'ole Apple, has a little less than 30% of the US market tight now. (despite seeming to own around 887% of the mindshare, LOL) So I see it as a three-way, and possibly four-way mobile OS race.

As is said to new investors, "Past performance does not guarantee future results."

So, if Android is selling the most . . . It means most people are buying Android devices . . . Apple is not the most popular . . . YOU are on an Apple site beating your chest and claiming victory (I don't know what you won) . . . And these Android people who go on Apple forums to trash talk have the audacity to call us fan boys? Oh boy.

The OP's post wasn't out of line and there are a lot of good contributors on this forum who feel it necessary to post here about their Android device, but the people who come here to cause trouble have a lot of nerve to say anyone else is "going with the crowd" or being a "fan boy".

It's like the people who cheered because XBOX outsold the PS3. Who cares? Unless you invested stock in a company, there's no reason to be celebrating, let alone trash talking.

well I would hope they are ahead! They have tons of phones on all 4 carriers! Compared to ONE iPhone on ONE carrier....lol

Android's international marketshare is already way ahead of iOS.

Outside the US people have real choice - iPhone is available on many carriers, just like Android devices.

Your Verizon theory isn't true.

Apple is an American company and trends in other nations run years behind trends started in America.

On a national level, the iPhone is the most popular. Verizon is even more popular and is the main factor. If only you knew their reputation with certain types of people and certain cities.

Yes, but Apple consciously made the decision to be one 1 carrier and on 1 phone. This was not something forced on them. Therefore, I think its a very valid comparison. And FYI, the iPhone is not just one 1 carrier, it's one well over 100 throughout the world.

you're rewriting your original post now. this is what you said

Android out sold the iPhone in the US in Q1 and Q2 combined.

This is where i was stating that you were WRONG. Android outsold iOS in both Q1 and Q2 separately. From the way you write it, you make it seem as though it took 2 quarters for Android to outsell the iPhone.

I basically share the sentiment of everyone here (it is an Apple forum after all). But of course Android is going to surpass iOS at some point. The iPhone has four devices on one carrier (officially). Android devices are on all four network with a multitude of devices. It was only a matter of time.
But quality far outweighs quantity in my mind. Android is still not as polished. Sure, it has all the "geeky" features to it, but it still isn't as evolved as iOS. Even with a 1GHz processor on some devices, they still lag. I owned a Nexus One prior to going back to a 3G S, and what a difference!
When the exclusivity agreement expires with AT&T, and the iPhone is on more than one carrier, we will really Google and Apple go head to head.

Who cares.

The top selling refrigerator is a Maytag.

I have a Kenmore.

I don't like my Kenmore any less.

I really couldn't care less in either case.

Look, just because Android outsells the iPhone, doesn't mean that Apple is a bad company.

Apple isn't trying to dominate the world, its trying to create innovative products and bring a 'magical' user experience for the user. If Android outsells iPhone, who cares? It doesn't matter. Its the quality of the experience that matters most.

At the same time, Google isn't trying to destroy Apple, they're merely filling a vaccum that Apple didn't touch on, bringing smartphones to the masses at affordable prices for those that cannot afford the latest and greatest. One can purchase an Android product at different price points. FYI, google isn't evil.

I don't consider myself to be an Apple or Android fanboi by any means. However I do own both an iPhone 4 and a Nexus One.

I've had the iPhone 4 for almost 4 weeks now - debating on returning it this weekend... (antenna issue, yes i'm using a case, and I miss Google nav)

Huh? What? You do realize that texting, video messaging and pretty much all cellular technology and services in the USA are far behind those in asia and other countries in terms of adoption rates? The US is a "child" in comparison having just recently exploded with text messaging.

Where are you basing your opinion on? Do you have any source?

You do know that there is an epic battle between Whirpool, who owns Maytag, and Kenmore right? Loser dissolves and never to make refrigerator again.
