Apple updated its leadership page this weekend to reflect a minor change to Angela Ahrendts' title, which has been simplified to "Senior Vice President, Retail" as "Online Stores" has been dropped.

Ahrendts remains responsible for "strategy, real estate and development, and operations" of both Apple's physical stores and online storefront, according to her slightly updated bio.
The title change is likely in line with Apple's simplified retail branding, including dropping the "Store" moniker when referring to its retail locations by name. Apple has also been attempting to converge its physical and online retail experiences over the past few years, and Ahrendts' new title reflects those efforts.

RIP all the good work Ron Johnson did for Apple when he created and maintained the Apple Stores.

    A demotion?

I will say this — Apple Stores have been turning into real dumps. (At least, the ones in Tokyo have.)

Simplified branding? While at the same time the website is more and more bloated?

I like how the MR staff are obsessed with details.

Awaiting the flood of hateful sexist male fanboy comments...

Fyi she's quite accomplished but will be belittled by males regardless of her accomplishments . Like it or not the tone is different if it were a male in the same role.

No, I read it. I'm also well-versed in corporate doublespeak. That's why I phrased the first part of my post as a question rather than an assertion.

    Dear Angela,

The strategy to announce new products with zero inventory seems like a really bad strategy. AKA, the watch 2015, AKA the jet black iPhone 7. That strategy will see more of your title dropped is my guess.

    Thank you,
    CM

Except there's been no "doublespeak" or even "speak." This was a quiet change to her title with no one taking over the "Online Stores" bit.

Further, if you can't see the convergence of their physical and online sales operations over the past couple of years, I'm not sure I can help you.

To me it's not even worthy of a mention because equality matters to me.

I really hope the conversation does not head that direction. Stamp out that sexist rubbish.

Angela Ahrendts is the highest paid, most important, and most powerful woman executive in the world. I predict that someday, after the Tim Cook era, she will become CEO of Apple.

Sounds more like a demotion to me. They could have left the online part without mentioning sales and or store.

I would say Gina Rinehart is more powerful. She is worth currently 12.7 billion US dollars.

She's the ONLY Senior VP in Apple management ... better to go the demotion route than the firing ... bad, bad PR.

Maybe Burberry should re-hire her. Seems More of an appropriate fit.

Er, no. When I buy a product in store and can not return it via mail, this is not integrated.

How so? The stores are going through a really interesting rejuvenation.
I'd like to see the retail operations focus on improved conditions for staff.

Apple literally got one if not the worst online store i have to use. Takes forever to find what you are looking for and if you change your mind and feel like looking up something else it takes just as long to simply go back. worst of all when it comes to anything Apple Watch or add-ons

the combination of product page and store is an abomination
