Because with the gift card they used to give you, you could purchase anything to your heart's content. A $120 Apple Music subscription is great, but not everybody wants to be forced to be subscribed to it.
They aren't forcing you to do anything. It's an extra promotion, essentially a gift. If you don't like it, you can decline it. But they don't owe anybody anything.

1) Honestly, anyone who's used 3rd party apps on the Watch knows that they aren't worth using because of the lag communicating the extension with the Watch itself. Fortunately, that's mostly fixed with watchOS 2 coming in the Fall.

I was talking about only being able to order an Apple Watch online, not the apps being linked from the iPhone.

Feels like she's making a lot of mistakes since taking over. The watch online only at launch, macbook online only at launch, no lines outside stores that many fans enjoy for new products, delayed back to school program etc

Not impressed with this lady at all. She's not able to manage the Apple machine. Some Apple Stores just recently got store front displays since the apple watch launch. That's unforgivable after over a year in the planning. The "promise for more information" is simply an excuse for "we are scrambling to make something happen"

She's failing in a big way. I wish that wasn't the case - I love what Apple is trying to do, she just has trouble executing.

Or it could be that they were planning something bigger in the next month, and she's just speaking up to publicly reassure people that they haven't forgotten – whereas under Jobs they just wouldn't have said anything.

Time will tell, I suppose.

I would not characterize them as mistakes. She is an extremely talented person. IMO, once again it's Tim. He is trying to elevate Apple to a level it will never be. Her hiring and strategies have all been moves to try and increase profits to shareholders by creating a false appearance of exclusivity. The AW is a failure, and will never recover until it becomes significantly more autonomous.

I kind of feel bad for her. Inside I think she knows it's impossible. Her issue is dealing with a COO pretending to be a CEO. Apple has lost it's Soul under Tim, IMO. :apple:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. As a student I wouldn't mind a year of Apple Music but whatever, the previous promotion was great (I hung on to my gift card until just recently, putting it towards the purchase of an Apple Watch).

Regarding lines, I hated them. I lined up on iPhone 4 launch day because I had a reservation. It was a cool geeky experience and the free food and drink were great but the problem with lines is you can't trust the stores to use their brains. I was maybe 30th in line and it took me several hours to get a phone because the numbskulls at the store didn't think to separate the contract purchasers with the SIM-Free purchasers. While the people in front of me struggled to get through to the network for activation, I was in and out within minutes. What a waste of my time!

These days the only times there are lines outside Apple stores is for iPhone. In some of the leaked communications from Ahrendts to employees she said they're not ending lines for all products. So I have no doubt that this fall all the fans that want to line up outside an Apple store like they were camping out for concert tickets will be able to do so. But honestly I wish they would have ended when Steve Jobs died. It just gives the haters and competitors a reason to portray Apple as a cult full of "fanboys" when most people that buy Apple products these days are nothing of the sort.

She sends weekly videos to the apple store employees?
If I was working at the store I'd find that really odd/patronising.
Doesn't seem very 'Apple like'
Hmm...Business Insider just ran a story about Ahrendts with anonymous quotes from employees. Sounds like employees like her. http://www.donotlink.com/fz7t

Well if you're not impressed with her then obviously that means she's failing in a big way.

The only thing that's a failure are some of the silly comments here proclaiming certain Apple products as failures.

wont judge till it's announced.

for all we know, this year will be the best deals ever? 20% off everything? extra swag? big incentives we've never ever seen before from apple?

judging now would be premature

If it's anything like the shaky "off-the-cuff" video on a path video we saw before it will be totally worth the week's wait. I'm mean there's nothing like delayed, amateur communications to instill confidence and passion in a company.

No it isn't premature. She "missed the boat" and is "behind the eight ball" on this.

They can either deep discount and hope that makes up for the f-up, or come out with some lame excuse. As it's Apple, it's a 99% chance it's going to be #2, but both are bad for shareholders. Thank goodness that the relentless power of iTunes and iCloud will make the company survive some bad choices in management.

i have not ever seen this much dislike about a top management person in Apple as I do with Angela. regardless if it's her fault on a lot of questionable decisions lately, clearly she has lost touch with Apple's core customers. And the thing with Apple is... rabid fanbase.

at this point, Apple really should think twice about keeping her on board long term.

So we are talking about something that hasn't happened in past tense already? Yeah, that certainly seems to carry a lot of rationale.

Why is that? That's a $120 value. That means it's worth more than the $100 Apple Store gift cards of the past.
Saving $120 is a sad promotion? I would gladly take it if they offer it with a purchase of the new Ipod Touch 6th gen. My 3 month for $1 Spotify deal ends on the 31st of this month.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. I have a lot more options with which to spend a $100 Apple gift card on than a 12 month sub to Apple Music to which not everyone may want or use.

But look at the comments over Pope Frank. Anyone changing a religion has got a huge task ahead of them, and will gather a lot of flack...

I experienced a few lines in my day. One in Michigan had a guy showing, rather too proudly, a porno that he and his wife made. Right there in the line. Um, UGG... Then in San Fran, for the iPhone 5s launch. It was chaotic, noisy, pandemonium. The communication workers of America were striking there with bull horns and all the paraphernalia... No porno though, thank Ford...

But changing a Religion is going to be hard.

Imagine 'christianity' mandating something like Ramadan... Yeah... Wouldn't have many people left after a day of that...

But that doesn't mean I think she's done a good job. It's a job. She's over paid, but everybody over the floor employees are overpaid IMO... 9-figure salaries? Whistkey-tango-fox trot...
